SPEAKER_02

Welcome to the Hudson Validus Golf Podcast. This week's episode is sponsored by who's the sponsored by Corey this week.

SPEAKER_07

Uh this week is sponsored by uh Corey Cook for turning 35 years old.

SPEAKER_02

This week's episode is sponsored by Corey Cook, who's turned 35 years old. Congratulations on that. Did it you you did do it. Now you're old. You won't really feel it for another 10 years, but you are in fact old.

SPEAKER_07

So I don't know if I mentioned it last week, but I'm pretty sure my dad said he found a gray hair, which I have yet to see for myself, so I'm not gonna affirm or deny, but I feel like that is a good mark. Even if you get gray hairs at 20 in your 20s.

SPEAKER_03

And you didn't have to cut your mullet off just because he got gray hair.

SPEAKER_07

Listen, nothing says old like gray hair, whether you're old or not, nothing actually says it though.

SPEAKER_02

It would be really cool to see a mullet with just one really long gray hair down the back.

SPEAKER_07

Oh frick, I have not really seen a gray-haired mullet. I'll have to bring it back when that time comes for sure. Mark it.

SPEAKER_02

Well, this week, Joe's here. Corey, Randy, Jamin, Alex, and our special guest, Stacey Blasdell. We didn't have time last week. How was your birthday spectacular?

SPEAKER_07

Yeah, no, it was good. For me, I've kind of gotten a pretty good uh recipe down for like a good weekend. You know, not a ton of people, which I've tried in the past. It gets kind of hectic, but I just had uh a couple buddies from out of town. My parents came out. We did some wrenching, burned some gasoline, couches. The gasoline burning was in an engine, not like I was actually burning gasoline in a fire. No, it was good. It was uh I didn't break an arm, everyone had a good time. By the time everyone left, I still had food in the fridge, so that means I didn't have to worry about what I was gonna have for dinner the next five nights. It was a win-win win.

SPEAKER_02

Nice. A lot of stuff got canceled this past week, didn't it? Because of weather, right? You guys didn't do J Dubs, did you?

SPEAKER_07

Yeah, no. At least for that weekend that we lucked out. But yeah, after that coming week, it was a shit show for sure. If you lived anywhere, I'm sure between what, New York City, all the way up to at least Albany. I don't know how how bad it was north of Albany, but no, we got it pretty good up here too. The Hudson Valley got smoked.

SPEAKER_02

I think it kind of started Monday night. We were having all those technical difficulties. I think that was part of it. That was like pre-storm stuff.

SPEAKER_07

That was a bad omen. We should have known when it when shit happens like that, we're gonna get 10 inches of rain.

SPEAKER_02

A couple things I did want to point out about that. I started having lag issues near the end there. You guys figured out the categories, right? For trivia, Randy?

SPEAKER_05

Uh yeah, it was shows and like angry words or something.

SPEAKER_02

Yeah, not how I felt after Eric beat me in Summer Battle Royale, but just feelings of anger. Okay.

SPEAKER_09

Yeah.

SPEAKER_02

Yeah. And then mostly like streamers. I guess euphoria is not exactly a streamer, but you can you can see it on HBO Go or whatever it's called now. So yeah, that was kind of the idea. And I knew putting silo first would really trick people. So Jamin, did you guys do CTK handicap league on Tuesday or the rain rained out?

SPEAKER_04

Rained out. It was pretty rainy all day. So I actually I went out there, I didn't cancel it, but only one person showed up.

SPEAKER_02

And that's not you, because you were gonna did you do any work in the rain?

SPEAKER_04

Well, I I started to. I tried to get some work done, and for like the eighth time this year, I forgot my umbrella. Like I took it out of my car and forgot to put it back in. So I did not have an umbrella, so I got out there and then it started raining, and I just turned around.

SPEAKER_03

Shout out who was the person that actually showed up.

SPEAKER_04

Uh, Chris Evans.

SPEAKER_02

Ah, Captain America. Yeah, so handsome. Alex, okay DGC. There was no dubs. Was that weather related as well?

SPEAKER_08

Yeah, same sort of situation where it was very rainy and a lot of the roads were closed around the general area. Course itself would have been technically playable, but um a lot more opportunities to lose a disc and you're never getting a disc back in the way the water was flowing. So yeah, it was just a better idea all around to uh cancel it. I was gonna ask, how does that course hold water? There's a couple of swampy spots, but for the most part, like there are areas that are OB because they're seasonally wet, and those get wet pretty often, but most of the places that you're required to walk are pretty dry.

SPEAKER_02

Nice.

Last Week in Disc Golf Monday-Wednesday

SPEAKER_02

All right, let's take a look at the last week in disc golf. On Monday, Gunks Monday dubs, Bill Buckner and Max Harwitz are your winners. They shot minus six. Saratoga Spa Random Dubs Week 17, presented by ADK Discs. There was a three-way tie for first place. Violence and Jerpat K shot minus 14. So did Matt Salaway and Tucker Kozlosky, and Bobby Hallam and Michael Fair. Not sure if there was any kind of tiebreaker involved there. Colonial Acres Dubs League had a tie for third place at minus three. Larry B. and Evan DeLeon tied with Josh Faust and Michael Cuoma. Mark Bryan and Jeremy Lensky came in second place, shot a minus five. And your winners Christopher Evanchuk and Steve Schultz shot a minus nine. Campgall Monday doubles, tied for second place at minus eight. Colin Broderick and Bruce Sass tied with Vincent DeSario and Todd Christensen. Wes Halter and Andrew Cragg are your winners. They shot minus 11. As we mentioned previously, Tuesday was basically a washout. So moving on to Wednesday, which was also kind of a washout, Shen Creek dubs week 20. It looks like Cody Miller and Dan McCrae came in second place, shot a minus 8, and Levi V is your winner. I assume is Callie shot a minus 12. A little bit further south, had better luck with the weather for Port Jervis Disc Golf Club Spring Summer League week 12.

SPEAKER_01

What happened there, Robo Pete Newland? The penultimate installation of Spring slash Summer League is complete. We found the calm after the storm for a pleasant war of attrition with white slash blue. Scores were bunched up at the top, with Tyler winning by a stroke, 51, and Pete N, Micah, and Rich C all on his tail, 52, ordered by tags. Going into the final week, our very own Rob J sits on top of the season standings and thus has earned the right to select the layout for next Wednesday. Rob and Al deserve recognition for being the two players that have played in all 12 weeks of league.

Am World’s and NY Team Challenge

SPEAKER_02

This past weekend, I didn't have a chance to look at it because again, I'm having a really, really weird week. I see Corey played in the Electric City Classic. Jamin played in the Electric City Classic. Randy, I saw you say something about a tournament. Did you play somewhere else, not Electric City?

SPEAKER_05

Yeah, I played the Cape Cod Open that I've been playing since year, yeah. Uh since 2018.

SPEAKER_02

All right.

SPEAKER_05

I was there as well, Bet.

SPEAKER_02

Oh, I hadn't gotten down to the I'm only just down to MA1. I gotta keep scrolling. What what did you play?

SPEAKER_03

I played MA2. There was only uh Terry Hudson and uh Steve signed up for MA40, and then Steve dropped out, and I was already signed up for MA2 because again I'm trying to get points for worlds, and with only two people signed up for MA40, I went for the division that had 20 people in it. I think we ended up with 22.

SPEAKER_02

When you say worlds, you're talking about next year?

SPEAKER_03

Yep.

SPEAKER_02

Where is it next year?

SPEAKER_03

I don't even know. Doesn't matter. I'll go wherever.

SPEAKER_02

Alex, when is worlds this year?

SPEAKER_08

Isn't that coming up this month? M Worlds is this coming week. Pro Worlds is end of August, I want to say, or mid-August as well.

SPEAKER_02

So this weekend you're gonna be in Buffalo?

SPEAKER_08

Yeah. A week from today I will be well, a week from yesterday, I will be in Buffalo. Is it one of those three rounds, three-day things? Even more. Guaranteed four rounds. And if you play well enough to be in the top 25%, you get a uh fifth round. How many rounds per day? How's it work? Just one round a day. 11th, 12th, 13th, 14th are guaranteed, and then the 15th is the top cut. Oh, so it's not this weekend, it's next weekend. Yeah, but I will I will be there to do practice and such. So it starts on Tuesday? Yeah, it starts on Tuesday. You went through and saw who was on the AM list? Just a real quick look through. There's gonna be names that I don't recognize, but those are the ones that I saw as I was scrolling through the 350 plus person list.

SPEAKER_02

Bobby Hallam, which actually brings up a question I'm gonna ask after I read these names. Ethan Hatters, Carter TK, uh Thorn Connellis. Ah, I figured it out. I didn't want to type out the whole thing. No, that's fair. I wouldn't either. Hunter Bettress, Jeremy Casprick, nobody pick him, because we should next week do picks for it. I should probably get with Tim and try to remind myself. Leighton Brinster, Sean Ryan, Wedge guy now, right? He used to be on the Stonely Killers, Tyler the Canon Ganon. So both Thorn Canellis's winter also and Zach McDonald. Okay. But Bobby Hallam, since I got some Team Challenge people on here, I did want to ask about that. Corey, you responded. Can you briefly summarize what Bobby's question about New this was about New York Team Challenge, right?

SPEAKER_07

It's about New York Team Challenge, yeah.

SPEAKER_02

He was talking about the third round to determine second place or third place?

SPEAKER_07

Yeah, so basically he was just kind of throwing it out there. I guess you have to be in the New York Team Challenge page to be in the no. But basically, you know, historically, any vote that happens in the league goes to the captains, and the captains are basically your senators. They speak for the team. The team isn't directly involved in the voting or the discussions unless the captain is filtering that stuff down. But you know, basically Bobby's question was around how in finals there's another match that's played to determine second and third place. And I think as someone who just shows up and plays, even I hear a lot of discussion around that strategy of having to play another nine-hole match after having just played a championship match, basically, to decide who comes in second-third. Personally, I think a lot of people don't like having to play another match that isn't for you know the overall win. There's probably a better way of figuring that out without having to play more holes. And not so much the fact that people don't want to play more disc golf, but more so like it feels like it's less purposeful. There's less of a purpose to that last round or to that extra round. That's kind of my, I guess, high-level overview.

SPEAKER_02

Well, like in New England team challenge, that extra round determines if somebody's moving up or not.

SPEAKER_07

It's huge, right? Yeah, yeah.

SPEAKER_02

So it's yeah, so it's a big deal. With this, it's what, like a couple extra bucks?

SPEAKER_07

Well, yeah, so there is the monetary part of it, which I think sure, at anytime you have money involved, even if it's only, I wouldn't call it insignificant, but I don't know, probably a bad comparison. But this is almost saying, like, oh, the two teams that get relegated in New England team challenge, you have to play one more match to decide who's actually last. Like, who gives a fuck? You're still getting sent down, anyways. Like you didn't win. It doesn't really matter if it's it's almost semantics at that point. Although, you know, in this case, there is a a payout difference between second and third.

SPEAKER_02

So what was your solution?

SPEAKER_07

I actually did not provide an a solution to the actual problem. I just threw some some bullshit up there just to uh say some bullshit. But there's a there's a few things that always come up, it's like where do you have finals and blah blah blah? And so I just kind of made a tongue-in-cheek comment about finals should be at J Park every year. Not because I'm on J P on Team J Park, but there is some other things too, like sample parking and power and plenty of holes, but uh that that was kind of a side comment.

SPEAKER_02

Well, you had also said to have the the faux finals there too, like have a whole big thing because you got enough holes.

SPEAKER_07

That was like the nugget, the little nugget and the overall comment that actually probably made the most sense is I don't know if every year they've done faux finals if it's been on a different day, but I think it was at least last year. And even still, the idea is that the people that didn't make finals go to faux finals. So it'd be kind of cool if literally the entire league was at one course hanging out for the day. And typically the way the numbers work out is that the roster size of a team makes it so that two teams can fit on a course. I I don't know, I just feel like it it'd be really cool if you could have the entire league or most of the league, not that everyone will go to faux finals at one course at one time and kind of have like a end of season party type thing.

SPEAKER_02

But that might get more people to faux finals. 100% if it is a big kind of thing.

SPEAKER_07

Yeah.

SPEAKER_02

I mean, there'd be logistics to work out, don't get me wrong, because that means somebody's gonna get stuck on north somehow.

SPEAKER_04

Yeah, probably. I've suggested before if we're really that adverse to playing disc golf, that maybe sudden death playoff for the two teams, like best two guys, best two guys, sudden death playoff. It'll go a lot faster. It'll be super interesting to watch for everybody else there.

SPEAKER_02

I don't see a problem with playing more disc golf, but I guess if I'm gonna play devil's advocate, I would say because it's like April, time would be probably the only consideration. Daylight, I mean.

SPEAKER_07

It's not though. No, that's probably course dependent too. Finals at was at SPW. I I can't remember exactly where finals have been historically, other than at J Park a couple times and CTK and Stony Killy Kill Stony Kill. Yeah. Like finals at Stony Kill, I imagine that moves pretty quickly.

SPEAKER_05

Yeah, so I'm the one who proposed the rule that is currently standing, and it was a four-choice vote. So there was no third match, and you let regular season standings decide. There was sudden death, like Jamin just proposed. There was the current rule, which is the nine-hole full team playoff, and then there was just like a standard third match. And you know, the current status is what was voted on by all the captains because it lets people play. Uh, it's pretty fun to play doubles, so everybody's playing doubles. Like we kind of just chose the most fun way to play a third match to decide things, uh, which is the goal that we're we're trying to have, is to have some fun. Because yeah, the sudden death would be sweet and quick and cool to watch, but I mean, everybody doesn't get to play. So I think if you polled everybody, you'd probably get a lot of answers that want to play disc golf.

SPEAKER_04

Yeah, like where's this issue coming from? Like, who has an issue with this?

SPEAKER_05

Yeah, I never really understood it myself. The year that we did no playoff or no third match at all, what happened was CPS showed up with almost no one or injured players. Minekill absolutely smoked them in the first round of the day, and then we went on to lose the second match, and then there was no third match to decide second, and CPS I think somehow won their match, so they took second and Minekill didn't, even though we had like buried them earlier in the morning. So that's like the downside of just letting regular season standings decide things.

SPEAKER_07

Yeah, I guess that's one point is that this wasn't how it started. Like this is the result of trying to fix a previous issue.

SPEAKER_05

Yes, this is like four years in we decided what might be.

SPEAKER_07

Which I think also maybe led to some of the um, I'll say confusion. This wasn't the rule from the beginning. Like this was a change that was voted on.

SPEAKER_03

I'm not in the team challenge right now, and and when I look back on it, I think you guys have made it the best way you possibly could so far, like shortening up the third round, but still having a competition to determine second and third, people still playing. Yeah, I think people should be happy to be out there playing.

SPEAKER_02

If I was to propose something, and of course, this I don't play, because the only people it matters to is the teams playing for second and third, right? So what if on the day those people decide from Randy's four choices?

SPEAKER_05

Yeah, but you can game that. Like if the team knows their team is burnt out, they're gonna say, oh, let's do a sudden death with our two best guys, and the other team who knows they have the better team is gonna be like, no, let's do the full team nine-hole, you know. So hard to have those two decide at the day because it's gonna be based on the day's kind of scenario.

SPEAKER_02

Any other thoughts? All right. I mean, if anything is gonna change theoretically, when does that kind of stuff get decided?

SPEAKER_05

So it basically all just did get decided. I don't think anything's official, but yeah, two rules were proposed for this year. One was to just expand the rosters to be bigger. Sorry, not the rosters, but the actual playing numbers. That seems to have been voted as a no because basically people can't supply enough women to play. So expanding that is really just gonna hurt most teams. Uh, the other rule would be to just have finals locations on a rotation from like four or five of our best courses that have the amenities and can fit the teams and all that, instead of having it be a vote mid-season or like at the end of the season every year, and we then we have to scramble to you know make sure the course is ready and all that. Now it seems like it's gonna pass. It makes a lot of sense to just you know pick the courses that can do finals and and rotate through them, like similar to the Super Bowl. And you know, if a home team has an advantage, that's what happens, but at least it'll it'll be set in stone. So, you know, we know what we're getting into. And if there's you know, weather or whatever destroys a course or something, you know, we can still vote to fix it or or you know, move whatever. But I think it's a good plan, so we don't have to argue about it in March.

SPEAKER_02

Absolutely. All right, so that's team challenge talk.

Sir Didymus's Defense w/Stacey Blasdell

SPEAKER_02

Okay, so we got uh Stacy Blasdell who went through the PDGA TD Academy and ran her first tournament this weekend in Port Jervis, uh Serdidymus' defense. How did you learn about the PDGA TD Academy?

SPEAKER_00

I'm on Team Elevation, you know, the guy who makes the floppy discs, so that's all everyone knows Elevation. And I haven't really been able to play this year because I had surgery in March. So I wanted to still do something related to the team and still be, you know, representing elevation in some way. But so I was like, well, I've never run a tournament. I've been in lots of tournaments, but I've never run one before. And actually, the captain of Team Elevation is one of the instructors. She applied for it and got it. So her and Scott Withers are, I guess they trade off every other academy. So I applied for it, reached out to a couple of girls I knew that have done tournaments and said, Hey, will you vouch for me for doing this? And they were like, Yeah, sure. And I got an email, you're in, and that's it. I really didn't know much about it. I just was curious about it and it was free. So I signed up and got in.

SPEAKER_02

It says it's five bi-weekly virtual learning sessions.

SPEAKER_00

Yeah. So basically we have like a welcome meeting. You have like two days to show up and like get the welcome intro. And then you get homework. And I believe online, anyone can take the 18-hole course online, like you could for TD Academy. And what they would do is they would assign a certain amount of holes that you'd have to finish before the next meeting. And then at those meetings, they were from 8:30 Monday night till about 10 o'clock. Those actually were super informative. Like they talked about everything you already learned in those classes, but then some, like, you know, you learned a lot more in those. Like Laura did a fantastic job. Laura Morganwise is the TD instructor and my captain for team elevation. And she did a phenomenal job. She's a teacher herself, and she just did really well. She's done so many tournaments, so she knew everything and was very helpful. And Scott Withers was on the calls always too.

SPEAKER_02

So the bi-weekly meeting that means it takes 10 weeks, basically.

SPEAKER_00

I guess.

SPEAKER_02

Okay. The bi-weekly always freaks me out.

SPEAKER_00

I didn't think about it like that. I just knew it was five times we all had to like you had to show up for like a virtual class, I guess you would say.

SPEAKER_02

And like running a tournament, is that kind of like the final?

SPEAKER_00

Yep. So I didn't really realize that when I signed up either. That like you had to run a tournament and within a certain amount of time from taking the TD Academy, I'm like, okay, well, I guess I'm doing this. But they paid for everything. Like I had to take the test to become an officiate or whatever it's called, but I did not need to pay for it. All the fees were waived for everything. Like to actually sanction your event, there's a fee. I didn't have to pay for that. Like everything was covered.

SPEAKER_02

Yeah, that's cool.

SPEAKER_00

And then they gave us the players' packs. They gave us two discs and a mini for the players pack. Yeah, and then I didn't have them handle money at all. That's part of the reason why I chose to do an amateur event and not professional event, because I didn't want to handle any kind of money. I just wanted it to be a simple thing.

SPEAKER_02

Absolutely. That's a question I wanted to ask. Last season, the last teapad was put in, right? How long though has it been open enough to play?

SPEAKER_00

If you look at the logo, it said it's established in 2021. But I'm not really sure when everything really got going. I mean, Richard Clapp has been the sole, I wouldn't say sole, because there's a lot of people that have been in the whole thing, but I feel like he's the one you go to about the questions and about what can we do, what can we not do. And like he has so much passion and heart for it that he's just nonstop at that course and doing whatever he needs to do for that course. So I'm not exactly sure. I know there was also some confusion in the beginning, like who was in charge of everything, and then there was like a Facebook page for it, but then that wasn't the right one, and then there was another one. So I know we tried to get involved right away and we were confused. So one day we just saw that there was a work day and we showed up, and that's where we met everybody. That was a couple of years ago.

SPEAKER_02

Okay. I guess it makes sense in that if the last T-Ped were finished just this last season, this season, it does make sense, would be the first PDJ event. You want to kind of showcase the course. It just seemed like it took a little longer, and I guess in my mind. Had anybody mentioned the possibility previously?

SPEAKER_00

Yeah, I think that just nobody really knew what was involved in it. And it's really overwhelming. Like when I first started the academy too, I was like, what did I get myself into? Like I felt really overwhelmed and I can't do this. This is gonna be a lot, this is too much. Like, I don't know, you know, who I like. I tried to do it, I was gonna do it at Papa Cating because that's 18 holes, and I wasn't even sure I could do it at Port Jervis with nine holes. So I was trying to reach out to people there, and it was just it's a lot. If you're not, you know, the main person at that course, like it's hard to find out who you who do you go to and do you have to go to the town? And then like, do they need insurance and like all that stuff, which PDGA does provide for you, but if they want proof of that, you have to pay for the certificate to provide that PDGA is doing the insurance for it. I mean, I guess it took a little while, but I think just nobody knew really what to expect. And it was seems like a lot, and it's then you have to take the test, and then you have to like it just seemed overwhelming, I think, to everyone. So they were super happy when I said, I'm gonna do this, and can I do it at port? And they were like, Yeah, like let's do it. So I think that was just the main thing. It wasn't as bad as I thought it was. I mean, I had Jared help me out a lot with things. He was like, You can't, you gotta do this, you gotta do that. You know, like, oh yeah, all right. And like, I don't know, it became a nice project for the two of us to do, and I handled all the fun stuff.

SPEAKER_02

You've confused me. Who's Jared?

SPEAKER_00

Oh, sorry. Ivan, Yvonne, Muta, Marmada.

SPEAKER_02

I got you.

SPEAKER_00

My better half.

SPEAKER_02

Looking at the course itself, in order to run a PDGA event, are there minimal requirements that you need to have for a PDGA tournament that the course might not have had?

SPEAKER_00

It looks like it mostly just has to have approved targets, safety and design, layout management. Yeah, like it wasn't crazy. I knew we had everything really. We just needed the porta potties. Yeah. I like I think you can even have like a temp course. I know I asked about the course and it was already on PDGA as a listed as a course, and it was fine that it was only nine holes.

SPEAKER_02

How do you go about getting porta potties?

SPEAKER_00

Port Jervis Disc Golf Club is also a branch of the outdoor club. So which Rich and Shana are on. And I reached out to them and was like, what do I need to do to get this? You know, and they said, We'll talk to the outdoor club about getting a porta potty, and then they did. So that's what they did. I don't know how it normally goes that they asked for the outdoor club, and that's how that happened.

SPEAKER_02

Oh, that's cool. Corey, have you ever had to get them at J Park before the the bathrooms were there?

SPEAKER_07

For a tournament? I I think they have done that before, yeah. And at the very least, even for like team challenge, I think the past couple years we've had one where it's been, don't quote me on it, but possibly mostly discap or or maybe discap people like got the town to do it. It might have been different over different years, but uh yeah, we have to have an apportapotty at the park. Even with the bathrooms, the bathrooms are still shut down from October to April or something like that. People are still using the park, so besides I have a bathroom on site for sure.

SPEAKER_02

Yeah, it's just little minutiae like that. I that I always find it fascinating. You said that you had surgery on your hand and you hurt your hand, but are you playing now?

SPEAKER_00

No. I guess I've been approved to play. Tried a little bit, but I'm I haven't really done much yet. And I kind of feel like it's a good time to re-learn how to throw and correctly throw. Cause I was used to use my arm a lot more than I probably should. So I'm like, well, maybe this is a good, you know, step back. And and now I was starting to get a forehand there, but now I'm like, maybe I have my left hand that I can do because that's not too bad right now. That one's that's doing okay. So yeah, it's nice to have some options now.

SPEAKER_02

How'd that happen?

SPEAKER_00

So a year ago, April 30th-ish, I was doing craft with my students. I was teaching K to three multiple disabled kids, and um, we were making a Mother's Day craft and we painted their toes to make it look like a caterpillar, like we were gonna push their toes on a clipboard. And all of a sudden, my finger just went pop, like really loud. And everyone was like, What was that? I'm like, You heard that? They're like, Yeah. And I was like, that was my finger. And I noticed it was popped out a little bit, but that's it. No big deal. That night we were at trivia and uh like it hurts a little bit. And then I waited a couple of days and was like, well, since it happened at work, maybe I should go get it checked out. Well, fast forward a year, three shots later, hours of OT, they were like, You need to have surgery. So I guess it it caused like a trigger finger, but my finger wouldn't lock. Like it just clicked when I push it down. And I guess because of the injury, it also caused a cyst. So then they went in and removed the cyst and then ended the trigger finger surgery. So and I got a second opinion. He said same thing. Yeah, you need to have surgery. So I did that in May, but like it still hurts and I still don't have full range of motion in it. So I haven't really played because I'm kind of was waiting to maybe feel completely better before I started competing and stuff again. But I haven't even really played for fun at all with it yet.

SPEAKER_02

So it's your forefinger.

SPEAKER_00

It's my middle finger.

SPEAKER_02

See, that's what I thought, but then you said trigger finger.

SPEAKER_00

Apparently, it doesn't matter. Yeah, it's the middle finger. It's so weird. So like I played for a year without using my middle finger. So I had to re-throw, learn how to throw again. I learned how to like putting. Like, you don't realize how much you use your middle finger until you can't use it.

SPEAKER_02

Yeah, I can imagine it's very stabilizing, especially with putting. So, what were you using? Just two fingers for like a throw?

SPEAKER_00

No, I would just use the whole hand, I would just stick that middle finger out. Like the middle finger was always hanging out.

SPEAKER_02

Gotcha. All right. I could definitely see that that could be frustrating to a point. You said you're not a hundred percent. Did they say you should get back to a hundred percent, or you don't know?

SPEAKER_00

They seem to think so, but I thought I would have been fine by now. Like I didn't think I'd still be having pain to get ready for the tournament, like banging in things for the signs and stuff like that, and like writing, like that day I was really hurting, like burning. So I'm like, dang, I wish I was, I thought I'd be further along by now, but that's okay. I'll just be patient.

SPEAKER_02

Well, I was gonna ask because when you run a tournament, especially your first one, you're you're probably not gonna play. But having to just hang out all day, how was that? Did you want to play, like even though you were hurt?

SPEAKER_00

So, yeah, they strongly encourage us not to play in your first tournament for sure, even if you can, because there's just so much to go into it beforehand that you know you're exhausted, you're stressed, or people are trying to reach out to you and whatever else. So I was a little bit envious that I wasn't getting to play at first, but then I don't know, I just got wrapped up in everything and I was so excited. It actually was really nice just hanging out up top and watching everybody, and I didn't have any FOMO at all. Like I didn't, I was just good. It was fine. And I I loved tearing people when they came back, and it was just, I don't know. I really actually enjoyed it on my end and not playing. But yeah, it was nice to see everybody else enjoying the day.

SPEAKER_02

Absolutely. Was there anything you wanted to do for the tournament? I mean, that you didn't do or you couldn't do?

SPEAKER_00

Oh, I don't think so. I think I probably did way more than I needed to do. But no, I think everything went well. And I don't think I was regret. The only thing I wish I would have maybe done is that I had check-in end a little bit earlier than I and started the players' meeting a little bit earlier to get people out of their holes. But that was a little tight. I was so excited and thinking about the whole, like everyone coming to the tournament, like everyone being happy that I didn't celebrate the winners as much as I probably should have. But I just was so excited for the day and just everything going and absolutely.

SPEAKER_02

It even says it on the PDG page, TD Academy, Serditimus' defense in Port Jervis, New York, Stacey Blasdell, tournament director. What's the email here? Floaty potato? Oh, floaty potato DG.

SPEAKER_00

Yeah.

SPEAKER_02

Where's that come from?

SPEAKER_00

So ever since third grade, when we had to do an endangered species project, I couldn't think of one. And my teacher said, How about doing manatee? And then I did like an adopted manatee and whatever. And for years, like anytime there was an animal report or something, I did a manatee. Like I was obsessed with manatees for a really long time. So floaty potato became my name on Udisc.

SPEAKER_02

Do manatees look like floaty potatoes?

SPEAKER_00

Yes, that's their nickname.

SPEAKER_02

That makes sense.

SPEAKER_00

Yeah, like on when you're just looking at them in the water, they do look like baked potatoes just floating on the surface.

SPEAKER_07

Is that like a common thing or is that just something you came up with?

SPEAKER_00

No, that's a common thing.

SPEAKER_07

I mean, I can picture it. It's just yeah, floaty potato. I I picture it like if I was like diving and they were above me blocking the sun.

SPEAKER_00

Yeah, I mean, that looks like a big potato.

SPEAKER_02

When I see them, I think of mermaids.

SPEAKER_00

Well, yeah, you apparently are not alone in that.

SPEAKER_07

Mermaids if they had McDonald's at in in Atlantis.

SPEAKER_00

Yeah.

SPEAKER_02

As far as the divisions, what was the thought process there? You you said you didn't want to deal with cash, so you didn't want pros.

SPEAKER_09

Correct.

SPEAKER_02

But as far as because it's got you got MA1, FA1, and then MA3, FA3. No two?

SPEAKER_00

No two. I know. Well, again, I kind of said, you know, Jared and I did a lot of this together, and he had strong opinions about that. And I was kind of like hesitant, but he backs it up and he's like, you know what? I think everybody gets so stuck on divisions and so stuck on like just winning or whatever else like that. And it's just sometimes less is more. And most of those people fit in those categories, or you can put yourself in those categories. And I was making the trophies, I made the trophies out of the around discs and stuff like that. And so he's like, let's keep this as simple as we can, especially for your first one. Like, let's just keep it simple. And if people want to play, they'll play, and if they don't, they don't. And that's it, you know, like they'll choose a division or they won't. And that's what it is for now.

SPEAKER_02

Yeah, no, I think it worked out real well. It could have been MA1, MA2, or FA1, FA2. It's the layouts were different.

SPEAKER_09

Yeah.

SPEAKER_02

If you didn't want to play blue, don't play M A one or F A one, you know. The MA1s played what blue in the first round and then white in the second.

SPEAKER_09

Correct.

SPEAKER_02

And then the threes played white both rounds.

SPEAKER_09

Yep.

SPEAKER_02

At first I was like, whoa, that's a lot of white. You're essentially playing each hole four times.

SPEAKER_00

Yeah, true.

SPEAKER_02

But I'm like, I never get the opportunity to practice any of these holes. Like if I play there, I'm usually playing like a red, white, blue, or some combination of different holes to do one round. Being able to play the each hole four times, I was trying stuff out. Right. But that's just me, so I don't know. Okay. You mentioned before it's a nine-hole course. 45 players maximum means you can have five on a T-pad. Were you worried about pace of play?

SPEAKER_00

Yes, definitely. Well, first of all, I didn't think we were gonna get 45 players. And Jared's like, it's gonna fill, it's gonna fill, it's gonna fill. I'm like, no, no, no. Like, you know, like I'm like, I'll be happy if we can get foursomes, you know. But we decided to fill it out because it is such a small course and like it's gonna be fun, and hopefully, and you know, we have these players packs given to us. So, like, let's get them in as many people's hands as possible. So then we were like, oh my gosh, we filled and we had waitless people. We're like, oh, and like even some the one guy, I feel terrible. He showed up. He reached out to me the day before and he's like, Is there any possible way you're gonna make it 46? I said, I can't, I can't. Like, even if I wanted to, I can't, because max is five a card in PDGA. Like, you cannot. It's three to five, you know, per card. You can't max it, go above that. Like you can't even in the program, like you have tournament manager and tournament central, and like five is the max. You cannot sneak somebody in. Like, you could try to make a ghost card, but then we're like, that's gonna make things even more complicated. So yeah, I was definitely worried about pace of play, especially in the first round with FA1 and MA1 playing blue tees and everyone else playing white tees, but it actually went a lot faster than I thought. And everyone that came up said that there weren't any issues, like they were expecting to be sitting for a while and waiting for a while, and there weren't any issues like that. So that was really good. Wasn't expecting that.

SPEAKER_02

Nothing you wouldn't expect, like, oh, they're putting out, let's, you know, get all settled in.

SPEAKER_00

Yeah, I for sure expected a backup. So especially with like some of them are super short and easy, and then some of them are not so easy. So I definitely thought there was gonna be backup.

SPEAKER_02

I think we've uh discussed this on the podcast before, but the name Serdidymus's defense, where does that come from?

SPEAKER_00

So years ago, we all used to joke about the stinky water on hole seven. Like there's like stagnant water there, and just the mud and everything stinks. And we used to joke about not wanting your disc to fall in there because it's gonna smell forever. And I used to jokingly call it the bog of eternal stench. And that's from the movie lab. So when it came to naming this, I wanted to do something with a bog. And I had made us a beware bog monster sign like a long time ago with a bog monster holding a disc and stuff. And it's just been something fun on the course. And then Ivan Yvonne wrote to me and said, We're calling it Sir Didymus's defense. And I was like, What? Like, what are you talking about? What is Sergidimus' defense? And and I'm like, Who's Serdidymus? No one's gonna know who Serdidimus is, and he's like, That's why it's awesome. So I was like, All right, so I looked it up and he's the one that guards, because I haven't watched Labyrinth in years. I know I loved the movie growing up, but like, or no, I don't know, I don't know if they love, but I definitely watched it and enjoyed it. And he's the one that guards the bog of eternal stench, and you have to be kind to him, like you have to ask for permission to get over the bog. But you know, in the movie, it's like if you stick any part of your body in there, you'll smell forever. And like we joke about that with the discs. So that's where it came to be. And we just thought it was gonna kind of be like that, but then I ran with the whole labyrinth theme in every way I could think of. And it was fun to have a theme and have a purpose. Like I think it'd be fun if there were more tournaments that had a theme. Like I don't know what else I could do there at that course, but it was fun having a theme.

SPEAKER_02

Pole seven. Now there's a a statue or is it a statue of sculpture?

SPEAKER_00

Yeah, a wood sculpture.

SPEAKER_02

But that's not Serditimus.

SPEAKER_00

That is not. That's Ludo, it's a different character in the movie. But this whole experience blew my mind because I never once asked anyone for any help. Like I'd reach out to Rich and be like, hey, you know, what needs to get done on the course? Or hey, what do you need for me? Or hey, like, do we need this? Like, you know, because I knew there was going to be some funds that I could purchase things. Like, do we need another tent? Do we need another table? Do we need and um before I knew it, every single person was out there. Like if our little club, like our little group that's like any chance they could working on that course to make it perfect for the event. I mean, and then I guess a couple weeks ago, I saw Mark DeBlock posted that hey, I'm working on a Pluto sculpture for whole seven. It's like, what? Like I never asked him to do that. And I had ideas of what it might look like, but it blew me away when he finally sent us a video of it and like so cute, so neat, and just like so special. I mean, I think he became a big thing that day. Like everybody, I I mean, I encourage people to take a picture with him, but it was neat to see on the Facebook page of all the cards having their picture with Ludo and stuff like that. But yes, it wasn't Serditimus, but Ludo is another character in the movie.

SPEAKER_03

So that was yeah, I'm looking at the statue right now. Plan sent us the picture. It's uh it's pretty cool. It's pretty cool. I would definitely take my picture next to it.

SPEAKER_07

I was gonna say, is the chains part of his character or is that something you guys added?

SPEAKER_00

No, unfortunately, we've had a couple of benches that people made stolen, so now we're starting to chain everything down. So he's in a cement block and he's chained to that tree.

SPEAKER_07

So hopefully good luck.

SPEAKER_00

Yeah, I know. Like Mark didn't seem to be worried about it, but everybody else is. And he's like, nothing on it. Like I I could fix anything on it that happens to it. I'm like, okay.

SPEAKER_07

So really, because that seems I mean, that is an intricate piece.

SPEAKER_00

It's really intricate, it's really cool. But yeah, we have such a neat community there. Like you can feel the passion and love in that group. I mean, I know Pat's come out a few times. I think it's a pr a really welcoming group. I mean, you're gonna meet the mayor George and see Shana and both Pete, tall Pete, Pete N and Pete M. And you know, you've got Gary and Al that work so hard on there, and I'm worried about missing somebody. But there it's just it's a really good group of people. I mean, we even meet up to go play board games at somebody's house or like out ice cream or like I don't know. It's just a really good group of people, and everybody, you know, I could, I mean, I could name names constantly because we got Micah and Richard, like there's just so many guys that and people that are there to help, and it's a neat little family. Like I made a joke at players' meeting about how the family really showed up to clean the house for everybody coming. Like, you know how you do that when you're a kid? Like everybody's cleaning up for something to happen, like you know, maybe Christmas dinner or something like that. Like that's what I felt like. Everybody just kind of pitched in and did what they felt needed to get done and to prepare for everybody being there. And it showed it was the course was immaculate, it was phenomenal.

SPEAKER_02

Yeah, it was definitely in the best shape I've seen. It plus there were 45 players, and there were a lot of people that I didn't even recognize. Like there were a lot of new new faces as well.

SPEAKER_00

Well, yeah. One guy shows up and he's like, I'm like, Oh, are you Adam? He's like, Yeah, how do you know? And I was like, Well, I was kind of going through everyone's PDGA myself, and like I figured that's okay. Like, that sounds weird, but like we were trying to match up sometimes people by age too, kind of like thinking that that might be fun for people to play with, but I don't know. So I want I can't forget Rob because Rob has done a lot on the Rob Storms has done a lot on the course. He didn't play that day, he didn't want to. He wanted to make sure the day ran smoothly. So he did parking and all that other. I'm so worried about forgetting. There's so many people, so I don't want to keep naming names because I'm gonna forget somebody.

SPEAKER_02

Like I said, 45 players. In addition to the MAs and FAs, there was a MJ18, mixed junior 18, Jackson Sarno.

SPEAKER_00

Yeah, I did want to open it up to some younger kids, like and have kids be able to do it if they wanted to. Because we've had a few come to the course recently. So I was like, ah, you know what? I want to be inclusive of everybody. So I would say he's in middle school, somewhere in there. I don't know how old he is exactly, but he showed up. It was his first tournament. I'm proud of him for playing. And uh, his dad played as well. So he had his dad on his card both times, and that was nice as well.

SPEAKER_02

Are they local? Good question. It says Spring Glen. I don't know where that is, New York.

SPEAKER_00

Feel like they might have said like Oasis might be, but I've never seen them before, so I don't I don't know.

SPEAKER_02

Okay.

SPEAKER_00

I saw them practicing the other day. They had a little girl with them, I guess, his daughter and sister, Jackson. And um, she was ripping a forehand, I heard. She was having she was in this cute little outfit and she's just down there playing, which I think is really cool. I love that about this court that it gets families together and outside doing something together and it's free, which is nice.

SPEAKER_02

Absolutely. And did you talk them into going into the Delaware?

SPEAKER_00

No, so I had on the thing that, like, hey, stick around afterwards. Like, I'm sure people will either play some more or go for a dip in the river or whatever, like that. And he made a comment to that because I thought they laughed, and someone's like, No, I think they're in the river because I didn't take pictures. And he comes back up and he's like, Well, you can't promise the river and not have us go in. And I was like, Well, you should have said something. I'm sure more people would have joined you. So that was cool. But yeah, I mean, it was a hot day. The river was a good idea. I know some people jumped in there, my husband being one of them, in between, and he said that was really refreshing, and he's glad he did it.

SPEAKER_02

Nice. I think they're all crazy, but nice.

SPEAKER_00

At least the level of the river wasn't as high as the other day, so that's okay.

SPEAKER_02

Yeah. FA3, women's amateur three, uh, Samantha Goheen.

SPEAKER_00

Yeah. So um Sam and I met a few years ago. Actually, Jared, Sam, Josh, and I met at a doubles tournament at SOMO a few years ago, like when we first started playing, and we hit it off, and we've been friends ever since. Like she even went to Florida with me to see my folks. And we drove down, we found donut places in disc golf courses, and we called it disc and donuts. And you drove down there and drove back and had a blast. And uh, she's really good at dyeing discs. I know they do an MVP circuit every year, and she does some beautiful dyes. But yeah, she's always out there trying to support whenever she can. So I'm happy she won. Not that I wouldn't be happy for anybody else, but I was rooting for her extra, you know.

SPEAKER_02

No, absolutely. Uh Judy McGuire came in second place over an MA3. I kind of played how I expected. It was really just I went OB a lot more than I normally do. I think I went OB four times. Uh so hole nine and hole one were the two I knew going in that weren't necessarily gonna give me problems, but I wanted to try stuff on. Hole nine, you know, it's basically a tunnel shot.

SPEAKER_09

Yep.

SPEAKER_02

And then the basket's a little to the left, and I throw forehand, so mine obviously naturally my disc is gonna go to the right.

SPEAKER_09

Right.

SPEAKER_02

So if I just go down that gap, I'm looking at a probably circle two putt because I'm gonna fade away from the basket at best.

SPEAKER_09

Right.

SPEAKER_02

So people were telling me about this line to the left where if you can get through, it'll wrap kind of around and then finish towards the basket. So the first three times playing it, I tried that. And each time I ended up pretty close to the red teapad. I would hit something on the left and I'd finish like yeah, past the red teapad, but that still leaves a chunk. So each time I took a bogey. And then on the fourth time, I just said, you know what? Screw it. I I just went down the gap, did exactly what I said at the beginning. I faded right and I had like a 40 or 50 footer, which I'm in the bushes, so I'm not gonna make it, but it made it for an easy par and I just said, okay, that's how I'm playing nine until I get better.

SPEAKER_00

Did you use a driver or a mid or what?

SPEAKER_02

Yeah, I used the destroyer because I wanted to make sure to get down there.

SPEAKER_00

Yeah, see, for me for tournaments, I try to use like a putter or a mid, and I'm not gonna get that far, but at least like like I'm not gonna bird yet, but at least I'm gonna get down there because that's my biggest thing. Is like I try too hard and then I hit trees and then I'm I'm scrambling or whatever else like that.

SPEAKER_02

So, like I usually try to do a mid down there and then get to the edge and then try to make a long putt if I have one, but right now I'm very comfortable with the AVR X3, the putter, and I'm very comfortable with the destroyer. I I don't have a mid-range that I'm comfortable with.

SPEAKER_00

Oh, gotcha.

SPEAKER_02

I keep saying it, but I haven't picked one out to throw. So that's 100% on me. Since I don't have any confidence with mid, uh, I mean, that's perfect for white, but yeah, I just I wasn't gonna try it out in a tournament. So um I would not. The AVR, I would do exactly what you're talking about. I'd try too hard and I'd throw it into the ground or something. And then hole one, I played that berg tournament, and going into it, I didn't think it would be useful, but I really enjoyed the fact that the berg, it's very good about an Anheuser. If I'm a little off to the left, you kick it to a tree, you're going out of bounds. So I thought if I go the right route, I can kind of, you know, slide it up there, kind of just go around that side.

SPEAKER_00

The adrenaline route, and everyone gobbled.

SPEAKER_02

I guess I didn't know that at the time. I just thought it sounded nice and it didn't really work out. The first round I went OB twice. The second round, I overcompensated because I was I'm afraid going down the middle of hitting the trees on the left. When I went to the right side, I was hitting the trees on the right.

SPEAKER_09

Uh-huh.

SPEAKER_02

I actually went way wide, I think, because I had hit so many times in round one that I just overcompensated and I actually went around everything. But like you said, that that's dangerous. I I almost hit that lat that very last tree. I landed right next to it. But if I hit that tree, I'm out of bounds again. So I actually did manage the birdie at that time.

SPEAKER_09

Nice.

SPEAKER_02

But then in the second time through, I hit an earlier tree, stayed in bounds, and then my second shot I threw out of bounds. It was my one double bogey on the day. Between hole nine and one, I was five or six up, and that's my day right there. I ended up at five up with four OBs, and three of them were on hole one, and I had one on hole seven. So I think about that course, red. I should a few under par, white, even, and blue plus two or three, you know, like a couple over. If I were to play red, white, and blue, I should be shooting around even at least. And that's mostly because I know red, I should be able to get more birdies, but it's so in my head. There, you know what I mean? It's when you have to be that precise, I usually screw up. So I shot around where I expected, except for the obese. So I don't know.

SPEAKER_00

Yeah, well, and like hole one, it it's right there. So you don't understand and you beat yourself up when you're like, How did I bogey this or double bogey it? You're like, this is it's right there. Like it's so many times you do birdie it. So then when you do bogey it, you're like, how does that happen? It's right there. I don't understand. But it happens to all of us. And then, like, I was in a tournament one time and one guy hit the band of the basket and then rolled OB. Like, he it's like, how does that like where that basket is compared to the O B. You're like, how did that even happen? How did that it just seems like such a simple hole, but it can eat you sometimes.

SPEAKER_02

Exactly. And then we had uh Ty for fourth at minus one. Mark Affek and George Henry told us Captain. Casey Heisel in third place, minus two, Mike O'Brien in second at minus three, and your winner, Richard Clapp, shot a minus four, pretty consistent, minus two each round.

SPEAKER_00

Yeah, and like, you know, there were a lot of people I'm rooting for an MA three to win. But then I when I saw Rich up at the top, I'm like, come on, Rich, you got this. Like you can do this, you know. I was super excited and stoked because he's just done so much for the course that, you know, he really pours his heart and soul into it that I was really rooting for him. So it was very well deserved that he got that and took that down.

SPEAKER_02

Yeah, and if you're gonna win an MA three, consistency is the most important thing. And I mean, he shot minus two both rounds. So he's he's he just showed consistency.

SPEAKER_09

Mm-hmm.

SPEAKER_02

I played with him in in round one and he had he made a couple really good putts, but for the most part, he was just taking his easy pars and taking the birdies when he can get him. So Over an FA one, looks like Shayna DiSapio beat Jennifer Park.

SPEAKER_00

Yeah. Like I've played with Jennifer and Kelly, and both of them are great girls. And of course I was excited about anybody winning, but super stoked for Shayna to take down that win. She's done so much for the courts. We've really become close over the years, like been through each other's ups and downs and you know, really rooting for her. And I'm just really proud of her that she sucked through and got the win. Like I'm super stoked that that she got that.

SPEAKER_02

So and they played blue in round one as well.

SPEAKER_00

Yep.

SPEAKER_02

Crazy. That's a pretty good blue score.

SPEAKER_00

Yeah. And again, like I feel like for all the people that play it a lot, it's hard because you know what you've done on those holes, like, and you know what you can do on those holes. So, like, I mean, I'm sure that's everybody at everybody at all the courses that everybody plays a lot. You know what I mean? Like, so when it comes to a tournament and you're like, oh come on, last time I played this, I birdied it, and now I've got a bogey. Like, it does get in your head. It's hard.

SPEAKER_02

Absolutely. A bunch under par in MA1. Tenth place, there was a tie. Daniel Maguire and Richard Denton, also a tie for eighth at minus two, Peter Newland and Alex Zenouski. Dan Doyle in seventh place at minus three. Another tie at fifth place, minus four, Adam Door and Zach Joyce. Tie for third at minus five. Jackson Cole Morgan and Jason Murak. Micah Ortez in second at minus seven. And Josh Goheen, your winner at minus eight.

SPEAKER_00

Yeah, and I guess it was quite the battle up there. Like they were back and forth with who was in the lead. So that was fun. Yep, the other half of Sam and Josh. They both took down their divisions, which is pretty cool. But also a really great guy. And uh he supports us whenever he can. So that was cool to have the two of them win and that too.

SPEAKER_02

Nice. I mentioned all the ones under par, but I didn't mention Bog Monster, who came in 13th place.

SPEAKER_00

Yeah. I'm gonna blame so much work on the course for that one. He should have had some course karma, but I'm gonna blame. We were there the day before scrubbing all the teaps.

SPEAKER_09

Oh, goodness.

SPEAKER_00

Sprayed them with bleach and water and scrubbed them because they were a little slippery on Wednesday night for league. So we went Saturday and just scrubbed as much as we could. And so I'm gonna blame that for his performance.

SPEAKER_02

I'm sure he would blame the signed Daryl Strawberry baseball cap. He was wearing it.

SPEAKER_00

Yeah, that's mine. Now I now I guess it's not anymore.

SPEAKER_02

I'm looking. Did somebody change their name?

SPEAKER_00

Oh, oh yeah. Hmm. Interesting. I wonder who.

SPEAKER_02

Bramwell Thorne?

SPEAKER_00

Yeah. Who could that be?

SPEAKER_02

United Kingdom. Thornwood Vale, United Kingdom.

SPEAKER_00

Yeah. What an honor for Jason Murak to have someone come from so far away to play his Renaissance Man tournament this weekend.

SPEAKER_02

Oh, that's what that's for in preparation. That's awesome.

SPEAKER_00

People are gonna think you have split personalities.

SPEAKER_02

So we've got Ivan Marmota, Bog Monster, and Bramwell Thorne.

SPEAKER_00

I think he's also been Copernicus Elbows.

SPEAKER_02

Okay.

SPEAKER_00

Yeah. I'm sure there's others. Can't even maybe those are the only ones.

SPEAKER_02

You can just change your name like that on PDGA.

SPEAKER_00

Wasn't it um Joey Buckets? I think had his name as Joey Buckets on the PDGA. I think last year or a couple of years ago or something. Like, yeah, you can definitely change your name. It does alert me on my end. Like actually, um, Josh Goheen and Sam Goheen, he signed them up as Finnegan Fox and Maya Papaya. So, like, and it alerted me on my end. Like, I don't think these names are, you know, these that should go with this name or whatever. But yeah, nope, you're allowed to do it. You can definitely do it.

SPEAKER_02

I've seen some weird stuff. Like, I know we joked about there was one person who had like looked like a grill of a jeep using like the symbols and such. You know, how it's got like four slats, yeah, and then it had the lights, like their first name, what looked like the grill of a jeep, and then their their last name.

SPEAKER_00

Really?

SPEAKER_02

And I knew you could do weird stuff like that, I guess is my point. I just didn't realize that you could keep changing it and it doesn't like cost anything.

SPEAKER_00

Uh-uh. Nope. And nobody says anything. I don't know.

SPEAKER_02

Wow.

SPEAKER_00

Yeah.

SPEAKER_02

And not only that, but to change your location, Thornwood Vale, United Kingdom.

SPEAKER_00

Yeah, so I know when we had first done it, he didn't really like that we it said where we lived, you know, like their town or whatever. So then we were able to switch it to New Jersey, New Jersey. So it didn't really matter where. And then I guess once he realized that he could change that, then he ran.

SPEAKER_02

Yeah, that's that's cool.

SPEAKER_00

I don't know.

SPEAKER_02

Yeah, so Josh Goheen. Well, Easton PA.

SPEAKER_00

So does he play there often or yeah, I think he's like a Yedder Pinebrook guy. I don't know how much they play. I think the one, what's that? Hackett? I think that one's in East. And I don't think they've all played that one that too much, but I've played that a couple of times and I joke that I can't hack it at Hackett. But I haven't played there in a while. But yeah, it's a tough that's it's a tough one.

SPEAKER_02

Are there any other PDGA events potentially planned for Port Jervis?

SPEAKER_00

No, but I guess because when you take the test, I think it lasts for three years.

SPEAKER_02

Sounds right.

SPEAKER_00

I have that the next three years that I can if we want to do anything.

SPEAKER_02

Is it something that you want to do again?

SPEAKER_00

I definitely enjoyed it and I enjoyed all the little things. I wanted to make our first event special. And like I know you guys know Andy Romansky. She goes above and beyond and does a lot of themed things and has little special things for people. And I think it matters. I think people really like that kind of thing. I mean, I think no matter how old you are, you still enjoy that stuff. Like I think our course is very magical. Like I always call it the secret garden. I think I told you that before. I just wanted the whole day to just feel different, special, and magical. And like I even tried to glitter up the pathway to go down because in labyrinth everything's glittery, and I used edible glitter so that it was safe for animals and the environment. But you know, and I had fog water and just little fun little things and bog bubbles, which was fart putty.

SPEAKER_07

Fart putty, yeah.

SPEAKER_00

Fart putty as a player's pack item. Yeah. Hoggle's obsessed with jewels and like jewelry in the movie, so I got everyone edible bracelets, which I know people were wearing and eating while they were playing, which is kind of fun. I don't know, just fun stuff like that. I think I don't know. We're always kids at heart. You're only as old as you think you are.

SPEAKER_02

I guess if I played two rounds, I played with six other people, and at least a couple mentioned that they had watched the movie in preparation for the tournament.

SPEAKER_00

Yeah. I sent out an email like a week before and was like, hey, if you really want to enjoy the day, watch this movie. So I hope it encouraged people to sit down and watch a movie together or some families maybe to get together and stuff.

SPEAKER_07

Was it on Netflix or anything? I think stream.

SPEAKER_00

Yeah. And the last day to watch it is August 6th.

SPEAKER_07

So perfect timing.

SPEAKER_00

Yeah. Well, so I didn't know this. Like again, I was just doing the bog of eternal stench and going off of that. But this year was the 40th anniversary of its release. So didn't know that.

SPEAKER_02

And it it's the 40th anniversary of the last Met World series.

SPEAKER_00

Oh, they had to bring it down. Bring down the room.

SPEAKER_02

Another thing, if you're scoring on PDGA, you know, there's always notes. Each hole could have something different. Like halfway through the round, I'm like, it says to give everybody on your card a high five. So we all did. From then on, we just started reading the little notes. I can't remember offhand.

SPEAKER_00

I don't remember them all either, but like, you've got this.

SPEAKER_02

Yeah.

SPEAKER_00

Yeah, we had fun. We had a lot of fun doing it. And a lot of those these ideas were all Ivany Vaughn's too. So that was he was a really big help in this tournament too. I asked Josh a couple questions and Jason and even Dan Doyle a couple because they've run tournaments before. So that was helpful to have people there that I've knew had dealt with tournament manager and tournament central. So that was reassuring too. But otherwise, like I was pretty surprised that I wasn't really nervous about it. I just kind of had fun. Yeah. You asked if I had felt like I was, you know, weird, like I wasn't playing. But like I think having, like I said, Rob there and then Ruby was there, our dog, and Christy and does stop by, but like I wasn't alone sitting there by myself. So it was definitely helpful because there's definitely some interesting characters that come through there. So I wasn't alone. So that made a big difference, too.

SPEAKER_02

Didn't I also see a cat on a leash?

SPEAKER_00

Uh yeah. Did you hear about this?

SPEAKER_02

No.

SPEAKER_00

Okay. So Phil and Maddie Fagel showed up. I think that's how you say their name. And they parked in that extra lot that we had mowed down because we knew we weren't gonna have enough parking in the main lot. And they heard a kitten crying. It's like, Dad, that sounds like a kitten. They open up the bushes. There's a kitten. He comes out, they say hi to it, and they they walk down to check in and it followed them all the way to central. And I was like, uh, why do you guys have a cat? And they're like, We just found it. I'm like, what do you mean you just found it? And they're like, it just followed us here after we found it. And I was like, what are you talking about? And Maddie's like, I think I want to take it home. And I'm like, wait, what? So like then Shana gets on the phone with um her aunt and Jill's Ferrells, which is a local trap fix and release. And uh aunt comes down with a cage and food and water for it. We put it in a cage, and then Christy shows up and she's like, Well, I feel really bad. He's just crying in there. I'm gonna go run out and get a harness for it. She ran to Walmart, they had nothing. She ran to back to Port Jervis, the pet store there only had dog stuff. So she ran all the way back to Milford and got a cat harness and leash and baby food and came back and spoiled that cat. They named it river. They said its favorite color was purple, river after riverside, because we're like, you gotta name it something after the tournament or something. And they were like, Yep, his name is River. So I did call the Port Jervis Humane Society during the tournament and check to make sure nobody had called to say that they had lost a kitten because he seemed pretty healthy and pretty in pretty good shape and very affectionate and not really afraid of too many things. But they said that it could belong to a colony down by the river and that if the mom was a really good mom, you wouldn't know it was a feral cat. I'm like, okay. But they took my name and number in case someone does report a missing kitten. Because I'm like, I'll feel really bad if it does belong to somebody, and then you know, they took it home with them. But so they're ready if we do get a phone call that somebody lost a kitten, they're ready to give it back if they need to, but they've already taken it to the vet, got blood work done. Like it's all like it's got a halt. So that's great.

SPEAKER_02

Absolutely. That's awesome. If they brought it to the vet, it doesn't have any kind of chip or anything like that. So I would imagine you would have heard something by now.

SPEAKER_00

I think so, but they said I could call back in like a week or so. And they'll call me in a week and just let me know. But yeah.

SPEAKER_02

Well, that's cool. Either at worst it's gonna be they found somebody's kitten or they got a kitten. So correct.

SPEAKER_00

Either way, it's works either way. Good story. Awesome.

SPEAKER_02

Next year you do um Princess Bride theme with the pit of despair.

SPEAKER_00

Thanks for planting the seed.

SPEAKER_03

And then the next year you do a never-ending story and whatever the bog is that uh those characters died in.

SPEAKER_00

That's terrible. Yeah, that's a terrible scene. I think we're all scarred for life from that one. Yeah, I don't remember what that was called, but I know you can get sucked into that bog on our course, so it gets it sticks to you in there.

SPEAKER_03

I looked it up. It's the swamp of sadness. Oh no where traitor's horse artex goes under.

SPEAKER_00

Swamp of Sadness.

SPEAKER_03

Yeah.

SPEAKER_00

Well, these are all ideas for future events.

SPEAKER_03

And crazy enough, these are all our childhood movies.

SPEAKER_07

I know, I know. Who is our in this uh Yeah, okay, youngin. I got a few more.

SPEAKER_03

You know, 35, 36 quarter, 35. Yeah, those were the days.

SPEAKER_07

They're counting, counting down.

SPEAKER_02

So do you have anything planned coming up as far as tournaments or anything like that?

SPEAKER_00

No, we were just talking about I would love to play Artemis, but I don't know if I will be able to play.

SPEAKER_02

Artemis Unchained 6, Queen of the Northeast series number six, open for registration Saturday, September 19th.

SPEAKER_00

I've done it every year that she's done it. So this would be my first year to miss it. So we really I might just have to play in it and just whatever happens, happens, cares.

SPEAKER_02

Just wanted to point out TD Moon Princess, Andy Romansky, assistant TD, lunar goddess, Bara Jones, and assistant assistant TD, Queen of Chaos and Starlight, Kristen Bruno.

SPEAKER_00

I didn't notice that. That's funny.

SPEAKER_02

It looks like general registration, I think, is open. I mean, it's just a month and a half away, so that makes sense.

SPEAKER_00

I think tournament participation in general is kind of slowing down a little bit. And I think people are just sick of standing in the same old things and doing the same old thing. And it's like expensive, you know, for two of us to participate in an a tournament on a weekend's expensive. So I think people are liking something different, something, you know. Yeah.

SPEAKER_02

I just feel like you have to do something to stand out because it does get monotonous. It's I got a tournament this weekend, it's blah, blah, blah, amount of dollars, and then it's like you get a disc. You got to do something to stand out. Otherwise, people are gonna be like, Oh, I did that last year. It's it's fine. If a week before it still got spots, maybe I'll sign up kind of thing.

SPEAKER_00

That's what we do because everything's so far. And for again, for us, the two of us to do it, it's expensive. Then you find out like it gets closer and the weather is gonna be terrible. And you're like, oh man, like I don't want to drive almost two hours or an hour and a half, two hours to a tournament and be like drenched or freezing or whatever else, you know, like that's tough.

SPEAKER_02

Absolutely.

SPEAKER_00

But then, like now being on the other side of it, the tournament director side, now I understand, you know, and I've heard the guys on here before going, please, if you're gonna sign up, like let me know because I need to order things. And so it does really put us in a tough position because we want to make sure we have everything for everybody. And but then it's like I'm not gonna buy stuff if I don't need it. If no one's gonna be there.

SPEAKER_02

Exactly.

SPEAKER_00

If you're getting your money's worth, people are happy. But like I know somebody tried to do cheaper tournaments, which I think are great too, but I guess you have to have a good balance of everything. You know, like I mean, like some people just charged what it would take to cover the registration fee, like you know, to sanction the event and that kind of thing.

SPEAKER_02

Did you hear what they're doing at Colonial Acres September 20th, the rethrow open?

SPEAKER_00

I just saw that, I think this morning, Jared. I just saw that on Jared's Facebook. I was like, what's that? Because I was like, I didn't know what that meant. And I saw that it was sponsored by Trash Panda, but I didn't get to really read much more.

SPEAKER_02

They're using the lost discs from a bunch of the courses at discap, and it's like five bucks to play. Scoring similar to an ace race. All players will get used discs from a selection gathered for many courses in the area. Players can only use the disc given to them for this event. So it's a way to reintroduce abandoned discs, I suppose.

SPEAKER_00

But so you get like one disc, like you only can pick one?

SPEAKER_02

It says discs.

SPEAKER_00

Yeah.

SPEAKER_02

So my guess is it's gonna be probably a a driver, a mid-range, and a putter.

SPEAKER_00

Yeah, same. Okay.

SPEAKER_02

I mean it's colonial acres. From what I understand, that's a shorter course, so I don't know We've never played it. I have yet to myself, so yeah, I wonder how far that is for us. Well, that's one of the reasons I yeah, I have played it. I know Mark Bryan's been on the talk about it, but I uh it's up there.

SPEAKER_00

Colonial Acres disc golf course. It is yeah, two hours, eight minutes for us. That's far. Yeah, but again, like we I mean, it was far for us to go to the Helderberg, but it's just it was something different and something, you know.

SPEAKER_05

Yeah.

SPEAKER_00

And sometimes it's nice to not be sanctioned and not have the pressure of that.

SPEAKER_05

Absolutely. I came in late. What is a bog water?

SPEAKER_00

So it was just supposed to be a silly beverage. It was just lemonade mix with green food coloring.

SPEAKER_05

Gotcha. I have made a cocktail called a bog water, which was a joke because people were making like Cape Cotters, which is like a vodka crayon and sprite or like soda water. And I figured the bog version of a Cape Cotter would just replace the vodka with scotch. It's not horrible, made it as a joke, but that's what a bog water is when I say it. So that might be fun sometime.

SPEAKER_00

Not for a PDJ event though.

SPEAKER_05

In between rounds.

SPEAKER_07

I'm glad you brought that up, Randy, because I have not been able to think about it since I went, but when I was on that cruise, my one and only cruise two years ago, a year and a half ago, there was a drink that I cannot remember the name of it. It's called bog juice.

SPEAKER_09

Ooh.

SPEAKER_07

And oh actually, hang on, I was already on it. It was vodka, lemon juice, pineapple juice, passion fruit syrup, kiwi, and starry soda, but it also had boba in it.

SPEAKER_05

Okay, because I was wondering where the bog part was gonna come in.

SPEAKER_07

Not that boba makes me think bog, but I can tell you when they said you can get 14 drinks a day, at least half of them were coming from the bog juice at the fortune teller bar.

SPEAKER_02

The course, we talked about it before, it's a nine-hole, and it kind of goes in a figure eight. So hole five is kind of the the nexus of things. So they had the the hydration station, I guess you'd call it, between hole five and one, and there was two big coolers, and one said water, and the other said bog water. Somebody's like, bog water, what's bog water? And my first thought was exactly that like it's some kind of alcoholic beverage, forgetting the fact that you know it was a PDJ event, so obviously it wasn't, but uh they filled up a cup with it and it was green. Then the debate was was it Gatorade or was it something else? They tasted it and they said it was it was like sunny time lemonade with food coloring?

SPEAKER_00

Yeah.

SPEAKER_05

That's way more refreshing than than my bog water.

SPEAKER_00

It was hot. It was a really hot day. I had ice pops and everything. So I was like trying to think of how to get through, you know, I'm like August, it's gonna be hot.

SPEAKER_02

So well, did you think that the TD Academy prepared you well enough?

SPEAKER_00

Yeah, I think it did. Like I said, I was really overwhelmed and didn't think I could do that. But once I got going and everything's pretty easy. It was kind of we actually said it was neat to see the other side of things. Like, okay, you go to all these tournaments and you experience it that way, but then it was neat to see behind the curtain, like how it's run and how everything's set up. But I felt comfortable and I know I knew at any moment that I could reach out to Laura or Scott and they could be there. I have not filled out the financial part of it yet, so that might be a lot. We'll see how that is. But everything else was pretty easy. I and it wasn't that bad. Like two weeks getting a few holes in, the way it's set up, it looks like a course, and you have to pass like the hole before to go to the next hole, and you have to score at least a par in order to go to the next hole. So, like if you got too many questions wrong and you bogeyed, like you couldn't go on. And I liked that, but if you got something wrong, they never told you why it was wrong, which I didn't like. And then it's set up for people who are beginners and people who've been doing tournaments forever and want to do like A-tiers and stuff. So that was my other complaint about it. Was like there was a lot of time where I'm just sitting through something going, there's no way I need to know this. Like, I'm not running a major. And I'm sure that people who were gonna run a major were sitting there going, Oh, I know all this already. So I wish there was a way that they could make it like here's for beginner TDs and here's for advanced TDs. But I mean, that's a lot asking for them. I mean, I'm grateful just for everything that they gave and did and the availability and you know, people giving up their time for it and everything. Like Laura was checking in with us, like, hey, do you have your place yet? She was there to make sure everything was running and that we were on time with things. Like, you know, the course also goes through everything, like it tells you how to set up disc golf scene and you practice. Like it has a whole pretend thing on it and how to do tournament manager and tournament central. Like everything's practiced on there before you actually have to do it. So I feel like it did prepare you. I think it was worth it.

SPEAKER_02

Nice. This is a relatively new thing. Maybe down the line, like you said, have one that's just a base class. I'm sure somebody like Jamin, who's run like however many tournaments, maybe have an advanced class for people who want to know that kind of stuff. And for you, you don't have to worry about all that stuff. And for him, he doesn't have to worry about the stuff that he's done 10, 20 times running a tournament.

SPEAKER_00

Exactly.

SPEAKER_02

What did it say? It's every quarter they run it.

SPEAKER_00

That sounds about right, but I'm not sure.

SPEAKER_02

Yeah, it says uh the TD Academy participation is limited to serious applicants on a quarterly basis. At least that's from the PDGA page.

SPEAKER_00

Yeah, you had to apply for it.

SPEAKER_02

Oh wow, review.

SPEAKER_00

And there weren't that many of us, like maybe like 15 or so in there. I definitely was googling a lot. And even then, sometimes I'm like, I still can't find the answer. Like, I don't know what this answer is. And then you get it wrong. And then if you get it wrong and you get like like every question is worth 10 points. And if you get it wrong, you get to try again, and it's only worth five.

SPEAKER_02

But and then you had to do the the certification test as well, right?

SPEAKER_00

Yeah, like I said, it wasn't really that bad to do. And I I was like, I can't believe they're they're paying for that. That's cool. Okay, they're paying for that. That's cool. And then like the players' packs, like that was all really helpful that I didn't have to try to deal with sponsorships and like getting money for players' packs or get, you know, getting all that together. Like it was all done. So for the first one, it was they definitely tried to make it as easy as possible. And like I said, I think they're trying to just encourage because there is a slowdown in tournaments, and it it is a lot to run a tournament. I mean, I would never have been able to do it without everybody that stepped up. I mean, there's no way that I could have taken care of the course the way that it was and handled everything else on my end here without the whole entire club coming together and doing this.

SPEAKER_02

Absolutely. No, I I enjoyed it.

SPEAKER_07

Thanks. It got pad out, so it had to be at least good enough. Bare minimum.

SPEAKER_02

I just pointed out that I need to get out more because those OBs were were harsh.

SPEAKER_00

Yeah.

SPEAKER_02

Man, that whole one tore me up all day.

SPEAKER_00

What did you think of the drop zone?

SPEAKER_02

No, I liked it. It was the perfect distance and the perfect, just slightly weird angle. So it's not a straight shot. It's a little bit Anheuser. So it's makeable but tricky enough. I was gonna ask, is that a permanent feature you think, or just for the tournament?

SPEAKER_00

I don't know. I think people liked it. But we just were trying to avoid major issues or like, you know, did I hit this tree first before I went out? We were just like, if you're out, you're going to the drop zone. Like not trying to eliminate that. Did you end up in the bog at all on seven or no? Like have to go to the drop zone?

SPEAKER_02

Actually, yes, one time. The first round, it was very humid, and we played from white. And my first time up, I threw straight and it was like hugging that OB the whole way. And fortunately, that railroad tie that's like almost basket high, I hit off the side of it and it kicked towards the basket. Oh, right. So I was safe. But then the second time, I was so worried about slipping, I threw it right into it. Fortunately, one of the guys in our in our group had uh one of those doesn't always have water in it, but this time it had a bit of a a stream going and it was just right on the other side, and I I was able to drag it in. And there was a note on there that I took offense to. What did that say?

SPEAKER_00

I don't remember exactly, but it was like, you stink.

SPEAKER_02

Yeah, and I'm like, what? I just threw out of bounds and I get I get berated for throwing out of oh, that's great.

SPEAKER_00

I debated on it because I was like, oh, I wouldn't like that either. But then I was like, no, it's the bog of eternal scent. Now you stink because you had to go in there and you went in there because you weren't kind of Serditimous, I guess, is why you went in there. So you had to be kinder to him next time, was I think my note. It's like you have to be kinder to Serdidymus next time.

SPEAKER_02

Oh, I I was. I I parked it the the my last time through.

SPEAKER_00

Yeah, we went Wednesday, I think it was for League, and the water level was almost up to the white teapad. Like it was that high. And same thing with the Delaware River was really high. And like I'm kind of glad I was a little bit nervous about that. It's like, uh oh. But it dropped.

SPEAKER_02

Wow, I didn't realize it could get that high.

SPEAKER_00

Yeah, it that's gotten flooded quite a bit. Hole seven's been underwater, hole two's been underwater. Even hole three gets flooded pretty well whenever we get a decent storm because the Delaware just overflows and it's over that area.

SPEAKER_02

That makes sense.

SPEAKER_00

Thank you for having me on.

SPEAKER_02

Oh, absolutely.

Cape Cod Open

SPEAKER_02

So, Randy, how was the Cape Cod open?

SPEAKER_05

It was pretty good. The turnout was a little weird. It was still full, but it seemed like the age protected pro divisions were were pretty full, which is, I mean, awesome for them. I don't know if there was another tournament going on somewhere in in New England, but it seemed like the top end of the pro field was sort of missing, which still didn't help me that much. But it was nice going into it. I at least had a good chance to to cash. I won't go through every hole, everything, but if you haven't played Burgess on Cape Cod, it's the oldest. Course on Cape Cod. It's very technical. There's only like two holes without um like a wooded fairway. It is really local friendly, and I still play it every year and hope to do well. I've done well a couple times there, but yeah, it's it's tough. You gotta hit really specific lines. Every wooded hole is different. So yeah, the first round I I actually played really well. I was putting well and just took a few big numbers from hitting trees and hitting more trees. So I think I finished plus one, which is a little bit below my rating, but I still had a I still had a really good time. Round two, I kind of played really boring and just found myself just outside of birdie range in almost every hole, but I actually finished I think two down by just not bogeying, which I think is actually kind of hard on that course. So I was really happy not to bogey and and shoot it like at my rating and just have a good fun round. There's guys there that I literally only see maybe once a year or maybe a second time during a random team challenge match. It's just really nice to catch up and see people. So yeah, probably just keep going back every year. Do you know Keenan Devaney? I don't. He beat you. You got beat by Keenan. Didn't get to play with him, unfortunately. Oh, I did play with a random guy first round. Was it I think it was Landon Bird? I'm not looking at the score or anything right now. I hope it's right. Landon Bird, yep. Yes, okay. He's from Kentucky. He just moved here two weeks ago, and he's like the same rating as me. You know, really good putter, you know, obviously good player. And the other two guys on the card are from Team Burgess, and they just scoop him up instantly. They're like, Oh, you live around here? You want to play team challenge? It's just like, oh my god. Not that I could have lured him to upstate New York, but it was just so like it's it just felt dirty. It was like they were the first one to meet him, and it was it was just so fast. But yeah, we explained Team Challenge over the course of the whole first round, and he was just like smitten with the idea. He'd like never heard of it before. And uh yeah, so hopefully Lannon has a good uh team challenge season.

SPEAKER_02

There's a uh Denver lead better. That's a good name.

SPEAKER_05

But yeah, uh so just outside of cash, a couple strokes. Mm-hmm. Seems like that I'm there every year. It's unfortunately just a local friendly course.

SPEAKER_02

So it is the same course every year.

SPEAKER_05

Yeah, there are two layouts though. So each round was a slightly different layout. I did play the harder layout in the morning. It sort of accounts for the strokes, but at the same time, not really. It's just different teapads, basically.

SPEAKER_02

So you play that every year. Do you get any practice rounds in before?

SPEAKER_05

Usually do sneak one in. Like we know the tournament's coming every year, so we'll usually play when we go home for the fourth of July and then play it later in July. But this year there was like a crash on the Bourne Bridge when we were gonna play our practice round and traffic was completely stopped, so we just gave up and turned around and went and did something else that day. So uh nope, haven't played it since last year.

SPEAKER_02

Nice. Oh, there was a three-way tie for first. Do you know anything about that?

SPEAKER_05

I actually don't know who won it. We watched hole one. Hole one is a fairly aceable hole, but it it's like a guarded green by a bunch of bushes, so you kind of need to like spike Hiser in. And somebody hit like all the chains and it splashed out and didn't stick. So that so they almost did a walk-off ace to win that tournament. I actually do not know who won. Yeah, we we got out of there after after they finished Hole One.

SPEAKER_02

There were three tied for first Joey Antosca, Daniel Maloney, and Nathan Graz. And it looks like Nathan Graz won.

SPEAKER_05

Oh, today, he's the one I don't know. The other two guys I've I've played with and stuff, so darn. But good for him.

SPEAKER_02

Nice. Oh, Kathleen Bemis. All right, yeah. FPO, third place.

SPEAKER_05

Not too bad.

DisCap presents the ElectriCity Classic

SPEAKER_02

Yeah, all right. So Discap presents the Electricity Classic 2026 Schenectady, New York, Jeff Wychowski, tournament director, 67 player. I'll go through results and then we'll hear how everybody did. Uh Sherry Fish won the FA3 division, women's amateur three. Daniel McCrae and Dominic Fiducia. They tied at minus nine.

SPEAKER_03

Went out with Dan McCrae when he did his uh playoff in MA3. So I carried his bag for him. And they played shorts on hole eight. So they were doing eight, nine, and eighteen on a loop. And Dan just lasered one right to within four feet of the pin, and the other guy kind of shanked one a little bit, ended up with a par. Dan put it in easily for a bird. Um and then when we walked back, we saw that the ace pot throw off was going on because nobody hit an ace. And uh I didn't have my discs with me because I was carrying his bag. So when we got back there, I was like, oh shoot, I'm not going all the way back to my car. Dan, do you mind if I borrow a couple of your discs? And so I said, just take the two discs you want to use and I'll take whatever out of your bag. And he was like, sure, no problem. And I I picked up a disc, I threw it, isered out, hit the pin, and landed like 18 inches from the from the basket, and ended up winning the ace pot throw-off. So that was cool.

SPEAKER_02

Heck yeah. Krista Kovach, CK, as the kids call her, shot minus five, went in FA2, women's amateur two.

SPEAKER_03

MA2, Joe, how'd you how'd you do? Um, I did pretty well, honestly. Not as good as I was planning on, but um, you know, I dropped from MA40 to MA2. It was a fun day. It was beautiful out. It was a good day to play. My first card, I was with Mike Warner, Charles Badart, and uh Devin Lamke. I don't play CPS very much. I played it once or twice this year, once um at the uh doubles event on a Thursday, and then played the flex there on a Friday, and and that's been it for the rest of the year. But I played pretty well. I ended up double bogeying. I threw a crappy drive. It was a good round. I played it well. It was just a couple mistakes, and uh that's like I said, just golf for you. But um got paired up in the second round uh Terry Hudson, Max Schutzman, and Luke DeBritz, who I don't know Max or Luke. I've never heard of them or met them before, but they were uh really fun to play with, cool dudes, play with Terry a lot, so I know Terry well. I was actually tied with Terry after the first basically went in the second round saying, you know what, you you played well, just clean it up a little bit, get your layups a little bit closer, try not to hit a tree when you throw in your drive. Things kind of fell apart when I crossed the street going hole 14 and 15. I had a decent drive, a decent second throw, but my second throw put me right into the big tree at the bottom, the landing zone with all the vines and stuff. I landed like right in the middle of it. Thought my disc would fade out a little bit and get me away from that, and it ended up just going directly straight into that tree. So don't throw many uh rollers competitively, but that is all I had, and I threw a pretty decent roller out of there, put me in a good spot to kind of get it together on that hole, and threw a hyzer shot to try and get it in the green, and ended up smacking a tree that was behind another tree that I didn't see. So I ended up bogeying that one, finished up on the back end with a birdie on six and seven. So I ended up with a minus two in the second round, a plus one on the first round, gave me a minus one overall, and squeaked out third place in MA2.

SPEAKER_02

Nice.

SPEAKER_03

No, we we had a great time. Um I squeaked Terry out by one stroke, I think, with like where did I get him by one? Yeah, hole seven. I got him by uh we were tied going into hole seven, and I I got a birdie, he got a par, and then we finished out with pars, and so I squeaked him out one stroke.

SPEAKER_02

Nice. Yeah, I I see he tied with Jonathan Klingler and I'm guessing Highland. Yep, Hyland Mike Warner for fourth at even par.

SPEAKER_03

Yeah, I was keeping an eye on John because he was on uh a card, he was two holes ahead of us, and he was tied with Terry and I on hole seven. We had three holes left. I birdied, they parred, and then going in the last hole, he was tied with me at minus one, and I parred it, and he ended up shooting a bogey, which put him tied with uh Terry and Mike Warner in uh fourth place.

SPEAKER_02

Yeah, it looks like Ryan Lorentz shot minus four for second.

SPEAKER_03

Yeah, they were on the card right behind us. So when we were on the T-box of eight, we were watching them actually finish their hole, and Pete threw his putt in for a birdie, and Ryan missed a I don't think he was more than twenty feet out. He ended up hitting the cage and dropping short, and we just saw with his body that we figured out he lost it when he missed that um just by looking at him. I mean, Pete threw a minus four in the second round, so he came up from minus one to minus five, and Ryan shot even. So really it was the story of Pete playing very well in the second round and kind of taking it from Ryan.

SPEAKER_02

Heck yeah. Pete Fitzisti, minus five, MA2 winner. Sorry, Corey, he's a Patreon member. This episode is now sponsored by Pete Fitzisti, not you.

SPEAKER_07

Yeah, I understand that my answer is a little self-fulfilling, self-righteous. But I want to know who our Patreon supporters are, uh Aided.

SPEAKER_02

I 100% understand. I will say we actually heard from Pete, and here's what he had to say about his win.

SPEAKER_01

The electricity classic has been my nemesis for years. Being a tournament at my home course, I always knew what I could do here, and that would always get in my head. Saturday, I was finally able to piece it together and keep a fairly cool head for most of the day, which led me to taking it down. I was also able to shoot my highest-rated tournament round and my best score during round two to fight back and get the win. Thank you to Upper Park Disc Golf for taking the stress of my shoulders during the round, and Hooligan Discs for giving me trust while battling the course. The disc of the day as usual was the cash for always being there to get me out of trouble and secure a couple of those birdies. Can't wait for next year.

SPEAKER_03

Sorry, Joe, anything else on that? Not really. I I threw well over my my rating, so I shot a 932 event rating, which is 29 above my rating. So like I said, I was I was happy with how I played, but it was just, you know, missed putts, hit a tree here, hit a tree there. That's just typical golf stuff that you finish the round and you're like, damn it, I could have done five strokes better and won it. But that's just golf. It was a fun day. I enjoyed it.

SPEAKER_02

Looks like David Chakin won the MA60 division, shot minus nine. Tyrone Culpepper won MA 50. Travis West and Denny Daly tied for third in MA1. Sean Siwak came in second, shot minus three, and your winner shot minus seven. Cody canine. Moving over to the pro divisions, Greg Kurtz battled with Jeff Darling, beaten by two strokes in the MP50 division. I guess he would have won MP 70 if he played it, but we wouldn't have any competition. So MP40, okay. Jay Gorsage shot minus four and only came in third place. Brian Bickersmith shot minus five, only came in second, but Dan Eigner, minus seven.

SPEAKER_07

I think they started on hole five as well. So looking at their second round, unfortunately Gorsage had a rough time on hole four, which can totally happen. It kind of shook up the top of the leaderboard a bit. But seven down for Dan is pretty good. Totally.

SPEAKER_02

Heck yeah. I assumed it was white. What's this Central Park tournament where it's white in the first round?

SPEAKER_04

Turkey throwdown. Yeah.

SPEAKER_02

Oh, okay. Okay. So there is something. I just seeing blue. That's impressive. Uh, but yeah, so uh Dan Agner won the MP40 division over in the pros. Jamin, how'd it go?

SPEAKER_04

Not super good. Just not really playing really well right now. Trying to just push through it, but nothing's really going super well. It was like one of those days I was telling Corey first round, I was like, it's a local tournament, I'll keep stats. And it was just like one of those rounds where it was like circle two, circle one, tapping, circle two, circle one, twelve footer. Like it's just I probably had like 15 of those throughout the day, and like it just gets annoying. A lot of the not a lot of it, but enough of it at CPS was like the really low ceiling stuff. So like getting to the basket on like hole two, hole eighteen, I'm trying to think of the other ones, but there's a lot of like low ceiling stuff right now that made it yeah, yeah. It's just kind of felt like it was all over the place, and it was just like constantly like, okay, well, you know, I'm 55 feet away again. And I I hit one of them throughout the day. And if you've got 15 of those putts and you hit one of them, you're not gonna do anything. But it was fun. It was really nice to get back out there. I really enjoy that course. I'm gonna do a quick PSA. If there's anybody who listens to this podcast who wants to start taking care of that course, I will help you. I will show you what you need to do because that course is so good and it's played by hundreds and hundreds, if not thousands, of people a month, and not a single one of them has ever thought of, hey, what if I took care of this place? It's been like that for over a decade. It just needs somebody who's willing to step up and start doing it. I'm more than happy to help like get that going. I'll show you what you need to do and like what to pay attention to and how to keep care of a course because that place deserves a lot better than it's getting from its locals right now. But yeah, that's I'll get off my soapbox. I had I had a fun day, two fun cards. Um, just always something that's bothered me about that place is it's it's is really one of the best tournament courses in the area, and it just doesn't look like it because it doesn't get the care it deserves.

SPEAKER_07

You could picture literally any course and think about who you associate with that course is usually who volunteers the most, or a lot. So, you know, with prospect, you got Jay Gorsage, who obviously he spreads himself out as well. And you know, Jamin's doing CTK and J Park, we have our kind of course that are volunteers, you know. FDR, you got Jack Bradley and and all those other guys, but CPS, it uh you don't really think of anyone that's like now that is not to take away from the people that have done things. Um, Peter Cornish has recently done some work there on one of the T-pads, and Kat Bemis was really instrumental in getting the white T-pads installed, and and and Gorsage had done some really good work on a couple holes there, but but you're talking about like day-to-day, yeah.

SPEAKER_04

Yeah, that's yeah, I don't want to make it sound like I'm like trashing what anybody else has ever done. Like exactly Jay put the T signs in and he lives in Troy, and you know, Kat did all that work on the T-pads who lives in each screen bush, and you know, like all these kind of things. Like it's getting help from people from far away, but like there's people who play that course six times a week.

SPEAKER_07

I wonder how many people would potentially stop playing disc golf almost altogether if CPS wasn't there. I'm sure there's a lot of people that don't really see what they have and what they could lose if and now this is might be getting a little exaggerative. I don't think we're at at risk of losing course, but you know, it it does have its faults for like where it is, and it gets a lot of non-disc golf traffic, and sure it might be hard to keep the T-pad clean in the winter, etc. etc. etc. But when you have a hundred people that could, you know, put in an hour, that's always been one of the downfalls of CPS, is it it might not be as kept up as it as it could be with its uh play hours.

SPEAKER_02

Yeah. I was just trying to run through like SPW, I think Kevin Cronkey.

SPEAKER_07

Jay Malloy, yep.

SPEAKER_02

Joe, I got a question for you. I heard I played that tournament, uh Port Jervis tournament, and I was talking about Wild West Ranch. Is that owned by something related to uh Ralph Macchio?

SPEAKER_03

Yeah, Ralph Macchio's family owns that whole property, uh the Wild West Ranch and all the way up the mountain, which there's a uh a zip line. Uh I think there's four wires that go all the way to the top of the mountain. So yeah, it's it's owned by the Ralph Macchio family. It's run by uh a guy named Mark, who is the hired uh manager of the property. I think the Machio family's down in Long Island.

SPEAKER_02

Okay, so when you think of Wild West Ranch, you think of Ralph Macchio. What other courses? Uh Jason, Minekill, Greenville. Uh, you know, it's crazy after I found out about that in Port Jervis.

SPEAKER_03

Yeah, it's a funny little fact.

SPEAKER_02

Yeah. I'm sorry. Any other thoughts on that? I didn't want to cut it short. That just popped in my head.

SPEAKER_04

No, I just think that, you know, it doesn't occur to people too much that they can take care of stuff. I know I sound frustrated when I'm talking about it, but it's just, you know, it's I think it's something that that course really deserves in general.

SPEAKER_02

Do you think there's a hesitancy? Because that that one seems like there'd be a lot more hoops to jump through than some other courses.

SPEAKER_04

No, I think it's just like a lack of understanding of what it takes. Like, you know, it's it's probably pretty imposing to look at like, oh yeah, I can just take care of this disc golf course in a public park. That's a really big task to take on. But like really what you're talking about is just getting to know somebody at the park, you know, so that they know what you're doing and they know who you are. Disc app knowing, you know, you're the point person for it. You know, if you play five days a week, if you spend one of those days uh playing, you know, hour and a half, two hours, whatever, just like doing something small on the course, like it's gonna take care of itself in two hours a week.

SPEAKER_07

Play a broom round and when you go through, broom off all the sand that collects on and around the teapad, you know.

SPEAKER_04

Yeah. One thing that I think probably scares people away is like the amount that the doers do. It's not about doing stuff all the time, but it's about knowing who to talk to to get it done. There's a lot of stuff that the park can do if they know that it needs to be done, or just, you know, being able to schedule work days so that stuff can get done in small ways. It's it's a lot less work and it's a lot more spread out than it seems, but you know, some of us just do a lot. So I think that like taking care of a course like that that's been in there for so long is is a pretty simple thing to do, especially once it gets rolling.

SPEAKER_02

And to start, you don't even need to do anything specific, just like Corey said, do a trash ran, you know.

SPEAKER_04

Yeah.

SPEAKER_02

Especially in a course like CPS where there's probably a lot of bottles and such.

SPEAKER_07

There is, and that's it definitely doesn't come from disc golfers, and it's not like again, not to say that CPS is unplayable or trashed. It's it's just the ratio. Uh you know, where it is location-wise in an urban environment, how many disc golfers are within five, ten miles of the course and that play it three, four times a week, like, yeah, ratio.

SPEAKER_02

Absolutely. Because I mean, there's usually a point person, but it's never just one person at most courses, but you gotta have at least one to get it going, I guess.

SPEAKER_07

And I think there's also like, you know, at this point, that that course has been in for I don't know, 20 years or close to it. I was trying to do some math or try to do some research, like how many years has this tournament been around? And I came up with 13 years since 2011 in various names, you know, electricity or played again open, and I think there might have been some downtime in there, but like it's an OG course, like the CPS kind of put discap on the map. So with any like long-standing club or hobby, one of the more difficult things to do is how to inject fresh blood into the you know the volunteering and the work, you know. At this point, you know, you you probably would have had the same guys doing the job for five, ten years and gotta add to it.

SPEAKER_02

Absolutely. Well, Corey, you played how'd you do?

SPEAKER_07

Yeah, I played um the whole MPO field was pretty solid. I would have played with any one of those guys, but I got the pleasure of playing with Jamin round one. I played with Ethan Hatters round two, uh round one and round two, which was great. Got to play with Troy Moran, Bobby Hallam, and Ezra Kartret. So great cards, both rounds. I feel like going into CPS, I I usually try to shoot for five down minimum. There's just there's too many easy holes there that if you can just get through some of the hard ones, you know, the birdies will come. So it just like don't collect bogeys. So unfortunately for myself, round one, I collected two bogeys, but I was able to get a handful of birdies to finish at that five down mark, which I thought would have been competitive until I look at the scores and I see that Justin shot a nine down, which again sounds doable, but definitely not easy. He had a two-stroke lead on uh Tucker and Kyle, who were in second place. Yeah, I didn't really do anything crazy. I just kind of, you know, uh saved a couple holes, got the some of the musket birdies, and um put myself in somewhat striking range going to round two, where the start of round two for me was crazy. I I I kind of had a round like where um Jamin was insinuating where like there's a lot of holes where it's easy to get 80% of the weight on the fairway, but there's something a low branch or something blocking you. And you know, if you're if you're able to to bang 30, 40 footers with any sort of consistency, you're gonna pick up some extra birdies. And uh starting on hole two, round two, I I went five for five. I I got I think two, well, 35 to 45 foot putts in the beginning. Hole four played really well both rounds, got birdie on uh on that both times. So after the first five holes, walking down hole seven's fairway with Ethan, I'm like, Yeah, let me check the scores. And it's like uh me and him were almost basically going neck and neck, and we were tied for the lead at the top. Justin was a little slow to start, but once we get to the back nine, Kyle was uh uh turned out to be the one we had to watch out for. My back nine was pretty clean, picked up a few more birdies, same with Ethan, but Kyle just kind of laid waste. He managed to shoot two bogey free rounds, which I think he said was his first bogey free tournament, but 11 down round two is what really made a difference as he put a five-stroke lead over a pile up type per second between myself, Ethan Hatters, Tucker Kozlowski, and Justin Mucelli. 11 down being 1036 rated, which I don't know, maybe Tim Goye can go back and try to find some math. I don't I'm not sure. I'd be surprised if there's been any or at least more than a couple higher rated rounds at CPS than that, because that sounds pretty crazy. But I was happy with mine. Eight downs, personal best for me. Good enough for Ty for second, which after 36 holes, you feel like damn, if just one of those holes went a little bit better, then not to share this with three other people. But it was um it was a good time.

SPEAKER_02

Were people confusing you with Ethan since you guys shot exactly the same both rounds?

SPEAKER_07

I mean, I don't know. Start calling me junior world or something. I don't know.

SPEAKER_02

We're way, way, way too old for that.

SPEAKER_07

It was it was really cool to hang out with Ethan like for the first time after that experience, kind of just you know, shoot the shit with him and chill and and pick his brain about it. But um, you know, I also shout out Justin. He shut he shut that nine down round one, which was kind of a statement. Also, probably collected some good course karmas. He was the one that went out and bought flags and flagged all the OB, which looked really good out there. I guess not all the OB, but the OB that needed to be flagged or staked, you know, your streams and whatnot looked really good. So uh shout out to him and and Megan for doing that.

SPEAKER_02

Absolutely. Good news is Corey, you did end up with $110 more than Ethan. So there's that.

SPEAKER_07

Yeah, he got his money in other ways, I think, and uh funny money. But it it's also funny, like the storyline, at least for you know, our little little traveling crew of disc cappers playing an MPO is me and Justin are trying to are kind of fighting to see who will be like higher rated. Justin has been higher rated than me, but I I've been trying to sneak up to him, and it's just funny that we go to a Tournament and literally tie before the next update.

SPEAKER_02

Yeah, and you have the same exact yeah, that's pretty cool. Same rating.

SPEAKER_07

And actually, I think Justin's might have even his tournament average was 992, and mine was oh no, it was the same. I thought for at one point it was a little bit different, even though we shot like, you know, the same score overall, but different between the two rounds.

SPEAKER_02

Yeah, because each round could vary a slight degree with with ratings and such, right? But it it is the same if you average your mount.

SPEAKER_07

Yeah, we both averaged uh 992.

SPEAKER_02

Okay. And like you said, Kyle Hirsch is the MPO winner. So maybe this episode is sponsored by Kyle Hirsch and Peter Fitzisti. So there's that. Nothing wrong with that. Uh any other comments on the Electricity Classic 2026?

SPEAKER_03

Ethan did make some extra cash because he did get second in the uh ace fot throw off. He measured it out like three separate times to make sure that he that uh I won.

SPEAKER_02

Should I include that? Is he allowed to collect cash on something like that?

SPEAKER_07

I yeah, I keep talking about that before. I was like, dude, you know you can't accept cash with these things, right? He's like, no, I'm pretty sure I could do this.

SPEAKER_03

Yeah, he can accept cash as much as I can.

SPEAKER_02

Uh one other note, I think it was it Pat Jeffries who pointed out that um Brendan Klein hit 900 with the Berg Championship before it was the rating was not included.

SPEAKER_03

Right.

SPEAKER_02

So he's at 898. So what does that make his uh I just wanted to check what his round rating was. Event rating 898.

SPEAKER_07

No, dude.

SPEAKER_02

That's just a fun thing to keep an eye on. I like when he people hit 900. I would really love it if it takes a really long time for Brandon to do so.

SPEAKER_07

900 is a good milestone when you it is when you're below that. It's it 100% is.

SPEAKER_02

So I do hope he gets it. I just hope that it's you know when he's 50.

SPEAKER_07

But um It's also when he actually deserves it and not from just playing some meme tournament. There you go.

SPEAKER_02

There you go. Uh actually, speaking of Brandon, were there any summer battle royale matches in the last week? Crickets? All right. Any update on Jamin vs. Corey?

SPEAKER_04

Nope. We played a whole round together and didn't even mention it.

SPEAKER_07

Oh, we were supposed to talk about that. Well, I said we were going to, even though I knew we weren't going to, but yeah, we didn't.

SPEAKER_02

All right.

SkipAce Update

SPEAKER_02

I did want to touch on skip ace. We've had one event sitting in limbo for a few weeks, but there was a big gap in events. So I'd like to have at least a couple events to talk about. It's got a whole new dashboard now.

SPEAKER_07

Yeah, it is it's kind of nice, but it is kind of a lot.

SPEAKER_03

Yeah, it's you gotta figure out what's going on in there before you can use it. But uh it looks nice, it's cleaner.

SPEAKER_04

Keep getting like the new the new dashboard message that I can't find the X to X out of. That's been super annoying. It's just like and it's really hit and miss. I don't know when it's gonna happen.

SPEAKER_02

So an event that we didn't oh well, I just pulled it up, so now I know why we were taking our time on this one. The Hynola open. Uh, there's a perfectly valid reason that we took our time getting to this one. But we had 28 pickers. Tucker Rules in 28th. It's a bummer that he's in 28th. He's got over a thousand points, so that's not too shabby. But I still enjoy that Tucker Rules is in here. Sparky Spaulding in 27th, Leighton Scott in 26th, I'm in 25th. Right behind Kathleen Beamis. She's got me by 13 points in 24th place. 22nd place, we got Rob Weast of the Mississippi, Brian Heller, Highland Mike Warner, Connor Eckhart, Devin Lamke, Evan, who's in Long Island this weekend. Brian Travis, one for eight, three four-three, seventeenth, Bickersmith, Alex, 15th place, right in the middle.

SPEAKER_08

Yeah, we take that, considering I've had a couple of stinkers in the last couple of rounds.

SPEAKER_02

But 1200, 1276, yeah. Blue Jay Disc golf store and Brandon Klein tied for 13th. Billy Buckner in 12th, Petatat Jeffries in 11th, and a tie for top 10. The correspondent ties with Stubbs, just barely making the top 10, Joe. What do you think?

SPEAKER_03

I'm good with it. I haven't been following the pros a whole lot this year, and so I'm kind of going in, not going in blind. I certainly know how they're playing, but you know, it's still a guessing game how they're gonna play in these courses sometimes.

SPEAKER_02

So you're telling me you don't you don't know the intricacies of Jesse Niemann's game?

SPEAKER_03

Well, he was playing well leading up until this tournament, and uh he didn't do terrible, but he didn't do as well as he did the previous two weeks. So a little disappointed with Jesse, but that's what it is.

SPEAKER_06

All right.

SPEAKER_03

It's actually yessey. It's not yesse. It's yesy.

SPEAKER_08

Oh, isn't it it's it's yessey? I want to say it's even like Yusy or something like that.

SPEAKER_02

Oh, goodness.

SPEAKER_03

Yeah, the J is a Y essential.

SPEAKER_02

So I picked the wrong one to point out. It was just a little scoring person. Um Lefty Flick 21 in eighth place. Corey Cook, seventh place. It's been a while since I said We said Mississippi, so that's good. Yeah, it's looking good for your boys. There's some breathing room there. Sixth place is a little bit worrisome. Jake Huey, he's a late edition. If he keeps finishing in the top ten, he might pass me at some point, but I'm still confident. Top five, we got Schwartz, Mike Schwartz, Ivan, Ivon, Marmota, Marmida. The other half of Stacy, who was here earlier, the real Josie in third place. Have we still not determined, or did we determine who Joe C is?

SPEAKER_03

No one has spoken up. And it's not me. I wish it was because he's doing better than me.

SPEAKER_02

Uh Maximilian Pegasus in second, and Randy Bobandi, 1,383 points. Your winner. How are you feeling?

SPEAKER_05

I'm just proud to say that I beat my wife. Um I'm just gonna keep beating her every week.

SPEAKER_02

That's a solid 200-something points.

SPEAKER_05

Yeah, and I know you might get to it, but the overall standings that bumped me up a lot. So comfortably ahead of Kat, at least for a little while. I love it, Randy.

SPEAKER_03

I'm proud to beat my wife.

SPEAKER_02

It happens so infrequently that he's got, you know, he's he's gotta enjoy it when he can. That was the Hinola Open, the DGPT Plus Ledge Stone Open, right?

SPEAKER_05

That was this weekend.

SPEAKER_02

Yeah. Okay, why is it not pulling up?

SPEAKER_05

I don't think they finalized, so you still gotta go to live picks.

SPEAKER_02

Oh, okay, okay. So are these not gonna be official?

SPEAKER_05

I mean, technically they're unofficial, but tournament is over. Yeah, it's probably pretty close.

SPEAKER_02

Well, hopefully it's not too far over because I don't know how many pickers we got, but looks like last place is Kathleen and Bemis. Exactly. That's why we should talk about it. If I look at totals, will this not be included yet?

SPEAKER_05

It's not yet, no.

SPEAKER_02

Oh hmm.

SPEAKER_05

We can just dwell on the fact that Kat got last and then talk about it next week again.

SPEAKER_02

Yeah, I think that's that that sounds like a fair assumption. I'm pretty low to the bottom as well, so and you're not that far. I mean, well, actually we got another couple hundred points by her.

SPEAKER_03

So yeah. She didn't even have a bad team. I'm looking at it right now. The people she picked just didn't show up. She has good players picked.

SPEAKER_02

I'm actually curious now to see because that's like more than 400 points in the last couple of events, so I'm curious to see where the the actual results are. But uh Jakeuey did pretty well. Uh well, Tucker Rules top ten. Okay, good job for Tucker Rules, Jake Huey in ninth, Island McWarner in eighth, Joe C in seventh, Kenji in sixth, Jamin top five.

SPEAKER_04

I was doing really, really good. And then Kyle Klein just like took a nosedive the last two rounds.

SPEAKER_02

Yeah. Uh lefty flick 21 as of now is in fourth place. Rob Weese of the Mississippi in third. Uh-oh, that smells smells like trouble for Corey. Yeah. Uh Justin Hickcock in second, but Corey, you gained a solid 50 points on Rob Weese of the Mississippi, even with his third place finish.

SPEAKER_07

Oh, yeah. And if anyone was watching it, they knew that some crazy shit happened. Not that it really mattered, I guess, for skip base, but I picked the winner, Luke Taylor. The dude wasn't even slated to win that tournament up until the last couple of holes, but at my clairvoyance was clear. Add him too as well. I mean, I picked Luke Taylor, Silas Schultz, and Jesse Longenecker.

SPEAKER_02

Isn't Jesse Longenecker a local player?

SPEAKER_04

Yeah, Pennsylvania. He was definitely the real smart pick.

SPEAKER_03

Yeah, he's been lighting it up the last few weeks as well.

SPEAKER_07

I will say it was weird making picks for this event, being the first event after like the European stint, where I feel like you had kind of more freedom for your picks. Like it almost kind of felt like uh easier, like you kind of had more points to play with, I suppose. Like you had to kind of get back to business for this tournament, but worked out for me.

SPEAKER_02

It's usually within like three or four hundred points, like first and last. So it keeps everybody kind of involved. I kind of like all right. So we'll get the official results next week. What's the next event? Let's pull it up here. Uh oh, in three days, Discmania Challenge. Is that like a three-disc challenge? The Discmania Challenge?

SPEAKER_07

That'd be funny.

SPEAKER_02

Well, this one, if you're listening, you can make your picks till Friday. So if you listen to this on release day, you can actually make your picks for the Disc Mania Challenge.

Alex Update

SPEAKER_02

Alex, I know two weeks ago you had a volleyball tournament. How'd that go?

SPEAKER_08

Uh it was pretty mediocre to be honest. It's it's a pretty cool format where it's an outdoor tournament. It's uh grass, not beach, but same same rules. You bring one partner, and each round you get paired up with a different pair of two people. It's pretty cool for you know meeting new people and and getting everything in there. But um, my game is definitely more oriented towards the indoor setup, so I did not play so well. But it was fun. Yeah, really enjoyed it. I try to play it every year.

SPEAKER_02

When you go to an event like that, do you still consider yourself tall? Like, are you in the higher percentage?

SPEAKER_08

I am still taller than most of the people there. Yeah, it's I'd say top five percent probably. Rarely do I meet anyone that's taller than me, but um, it's it's much closer to the average, I guess. You know, like I I'm at 6'8, you know, you get the 6'5, 6'6, 6'7 people at events like this. So I'm not out of the uh out of the ordinary, but still taller.

SPEAKER_02

Yeah, it makes me think of like when people think you think Shaquille O'Neal, and then you see him next to Yao Ming. And it's like, whoa, Yao Ming's like not towers, but he's like a head taller than Shaq or something like that. So Yeah, for sure. That's cool.

SPEAKER_08

A similar sort of situation for sure. Did you play Disc golf this past weekend? This past weekend I did not. As uh I had said a while back, I bought a house, so I've been doing furnishing it on that. That's been my major activity for the past couple of weeks. I did go see Spider-Man though. Oh, no spoilers. Did you like it? Uh I liked it. Yeah, some interesting setup, but I liked a lot of the the side stuff, the stuff that they were setting up, other movies and stuff. I thought they did

DisCap Newsletter

SPEAKER_08

it well.

SPEAKER_02

Nice. I did want to hit the the discap newsletter for August 2026. What's going on in Discap Land? Stony Kill. Stony Kill was hit pretty bad by the storm at the beginning of July. Thanks to the efforts from Jean Gierka, Travis Bashore, and many volunteers, much of the course has been cleaned up and will hopefully be reopened next week. The town of Chatham is getting a logging company to remove more of the down trees. Holes one and two unfortunately have their days numbered. When the course reopens, play the storm course layout, which is 3 to 14, 14 BNC, 15 to 18, to play a full 18 holes. A special thank you to all that donated to the GoFundMe to help recovery efforts as well. Registration for the Stony Kill Scramble is open Saturday, September 5th with a singles rated event, and Sunday, September 6th with a bring your own partner doubles event. So, Alex, two questions. First, what's the update as far as the course?

SPEAKER_08

Things are going really, really well. Gene is going out with the town supervisor, I want to say tomorrow, to do a run through of the course and see if there's anything that they want to see cut or pulled or whatever. But we believe that we should be able to get everything open at this thing on Tuesday. So potentially regular doubles on Wednesday, which would be awesome. That is to say, if you're nervous about the course with regards to Stony Kill Scramble, we're very, very confident that we're going to be, you know, in playable shape by the time uh September rolls around.

SPEAKER_02

Well, that was my second question. Registration open completely for Stony Kill Scramble. How's it looking so far?

SPEAKER_08

Uh it looks all right as far uh as far as registration goes. You know, I'd like to like to see a couple more, but you know, it always will fill up towards the end and we'll be uh campaigning a little bit harder as uh as Stony Kill events start picking up. I'll just do what uh what Jeff did with Brewster Ridge and just go to worlds and be like, hey, come to my Oh, you didn't get your invite?

SPEAKER_07

Come play Stony Kill.

SPEAKER_08

Exactly.

SPEAKER_05

If you don't sign up for Sony Kill Scramble doubles, you're just letting me and Adam Nelson win. So just know that you should sign up.

SPEAKER_02

And there is no world in which we want Randy and Adam Nelson to win.

SPEAKER_04

This might be the only world in which they do win.

SPEAKER_05

Exactly. Actually, stop registration.

SPEAKER_08

The best score that has ever been put up for doubles was on the same anticipated layout that we're gonna do. So the original storm, you know, back in 22, 23, whenever that was. Who was it? Tucker and his partner, and I'm blanking up to the shot 16 down and then 18 down for a 34 down over the course of two rounds. So this is a very scorable layout. You know, I'd love to see somebody come and take down that record. Absolutely.

SPEAKER_04

It's gotta be an asterisk, though, because there's less trees this year.

SPEAKER_08

You know, the courses change. It's it's how it goes. Most of the holes that are still around um weren't affected too too much. Hole three had a couple come down, but it was more trees that were leaning onto hole three. But yeah, honestly, a lot of that front nine is pretty much the same.

SPEAKER_02

All right, uh, volunteers, don't forget to get those volunteer hours in for a chance to join us at the Discap Volunteer finale at Stony Kill, fittingly, on October 25th. Contact your workday leader to make sure you get an invite. Registration opens August 11th. The Rethrow Open. Registration for the Rethrow Open at Colonial Acres on September 20th opens this Saturday. The Rethrow Open is a tournament centering around some forgotten, lost, and found discs that still have plenty of life in them. All players will get used discs from a selection gathered from many courses in the area. Players can use only the discs given to them for this event. Event scoring will be similar to the ace race scoring rules used in the past. I had not heard of this. This isn't Jeff's thing, right?

SPEAKER_03

No. No.

SPEAKER_02

Okay. Has anybody heard of this? It's Mark Bryan, right?

SPEAKER_03

Yeah. I love the idea.

SPEAKER_02

I was gonna say this could be the most brilliant idea I've ever heard, but what are your guys' thoughts?

SPEAKER_07

I've heard of it because I I actually I not until I read this newsletter again just now that it click in my head, but I'm pretty sure he was reaching out to all to various lost and found maintainers, see if there was any discs that they uh would be willing to donate. Yeah, yeah. So he he he first reached out to me in June asking if there's any discs that are sitting around or be willing to willing to donate, and then he mentioned that the uh event wasn't until September. So now this all makes sense. And I do think it's a pretty good idea. Yeah.

SPEAKER_02

It's brilliant. I mean, somebody's gonna get stuck with some turkeys, but I mean, I'm sure he's also gonna read through them and and not select the ones that chewed on by dogs and such. But I think this is I think it's a great idea, especially with like a discap thing. It works so great because there's so many different courses. I mean, it's five dollars.

SPEAKER_05

You're just gonna be. Oh, really? I was just it is literally just go have some fun. Like that's that's the idea.

SPEAKER_02

That's brilliant. Don't tell Mark I said that. I just want to point that out. Gerolem and White T's White T pad work to continue in August. Reach out to Kate Clay to volunteer. Uh, we got the 2026 Montgomery County Championship. This year, the Montgomery County Championship will replace the blues at Bourbine. Rather than playing two rounds at Bourbine, this event will feature a round at Bourbine and around at the new and beautiful Dove Creek. The event takes place on September 19th. We hope you'll join us. And the Battle of Saratoga. Registration opens for ladies' divisions on August 1st or opened tiered registration after that. Do we know where they're at in the tiers offhand or no?

SPEAKER_07

Yeah, I think uh it was open to uh poll sponsor now. Okay. Early event sponsor, yeah, uh uh August 3rd, the day that we're recording this. Opened up at 8 o'clock. And open registration is August 6th, which is our new pod drop date.

SPEAKER_02

New, it's been like a year now, but okay, yeah.

SPEAKER_07

I feel like a lot of times when we still reference a date, we still think of like Fridays, but yeah, no, August 6th, open registration. Remember those days where I would offer up on the podcast a dollar to anyone that could beat me in registration? Man, those were good days. Not to worry about that no more.

SPEAKER_02

Yeah, right. Well, you know why it was switched from Friday to Thursday?

SPEAKER_07

Because you had all this free time.

SPEAKER_02

No, was that if I didn't give myself a limit, I would have just gone through and re-edited. I can go back to any episode and do more editing. So I would go through another time, and it's like, I don't need to go through another time. This doesn't need to be perfect. So that was the idea for Thursday. And I know initially, like Mike and Brandon were like, Well, you could do that for Patreons, but if I didn't do it for everybody, I would still go through and and edit one or two more times.

SPEAKER_07

I tell you what, when Brian wakes up in the middle of the night, take a piss on a Thursday and can't fall back asleep, I'm sure he appreciates it.

SPEAKER_03

And Justin more than anybody else, he seems to be up right at the crack of dawn when he uh drops this.

SPEAKER_07

He probably just go to sleep until the episode is dropped and he's had a chance to fully listen to it, so he's prepared in the morning for any comment.

SPEAKER_02

August 9th, that's Sunday. We got the Cranmore Flex at Jenkinsville.

SPEAKER_03

Yeah. In fact, Jamin and Jidish played uh the Cranmore dubs there on Friday. Uh it was a fun round. Uh made up challenges on each hole. It's kind of cool.

SPEAKER_02

Is that the bonus round at Jenkinsville?

SPEAKER_03

Yeah. It was pretty cool. It was the first one I've gone to in uh I think he's he started doing it. He, as in David Martin, started doing it a couple years ago, and I missed it last year. Fun going to it this year.

SPEAKER_02

September 4th, we got the discap flex number six at Hiser Creek. Uh we mentioned Stony Coast Scramble, September 5th and 6th, Saturday singles, Sunday dubs, and discap September monthly at J Park. They know where it's at, but they don't have a time yet. It's to be determined. Is it has there been an update, or we don't know yet? I mean, it's only August 3rd, so it's still early, but all right, crickets. No, no, no, it's fine. I I'm I was busting shop.

Last Week in Disc Golf Thursday-Sunday

SPEAKER_02

The last week in disc golf. On Thursdays, we got Disc Beat Club. John Furman, Benji Pharrell, and Chris Evans all tied for second place, and Peter Wakamp is your winner. Got 15 points for the league. Top five for the season so far, Lou Davis in fifth at 37 points, Kevin Cronkey in fourth at 37.5, Jim Burns in third at 46, Joe Orbakzuski's in second with 50 and a half points, and your leader with 53 points, Peter Wakeamp. CPS Thursday doubles, week 16. Cody Cannine and Greg Kurtz came in third place, shot a minus eight. Christopher Evanchuk and Jeremy Forehand, Florida Man Million came in second at minus nine. Mike Weist and Josh Lee are your winners, they shot a minus 10. TGI FDR dubs, three-way tie for first place, all shooting minus six. Eddie Sikas and Xander Mizrahi tied with Justin Hedden and Robert Warrell, who tied with Trevor Lambert and Simon Ramone. Skylines Friday Handicap League tied for second place. Scott Spellman and Matt Pappas. Rob Valecki took it down. SPW dubs league. Looks like a tie for second place. Denny Deli and Jason Malloy shot minus eight. So did Kevin Cronkey and Jay Gorsage. Sean Powers and Cody Canine are your winners. They shot minus 10. No one hit the birdie bank. Eric Struna with a CTP on hole seven, 18.9 feet, got himself 22 bucks. And there were no aces. Sassafras Sunday's solos at Dove Handicapped. Chris Wilson and Jim Burns tied for third place with plus one handicap. And Matt Beaver and Terry Hudson tied for first with even handicapped. Long Island Disc Golf, Josh Winkler and Evan Parsley came in fourth place. Evan Parsley with a minus nine. Nikos Hanley and Adrian Hurtado in third place at minus ten. John Nichols and Derek Yarrow in second at minus twelve. And Kevin Hutchins and Jonathan Barnes are your winners. They shot minus 16. Nice shooting there. Alright.

CranMore Dubs League

SPEAKER_02

So did you say you you and Jamin both played Cranmore Dubs League? We did.

SPEAKER_04

Yep, I played a league. Wow.

SPEAKER_02

How'd that go, Jamin? During the round, did you clean anything? Did you like rake up anything?

SPEAKER_04

I was weed whacking before the round. Um I was definitely throwing sticks off the fairway, but no, nothing too crazy. Uh that course is definitely a big to-do list for me. So it was certainly on my mind, but no, I didn't do anything.

SPEAKER_03

It's in good shape. There's just, you know, love the random sticks that came down with all the rain that we got. That uh, you know, little random stuff everywhere. But um, I think a lot of us kind of pick stuff up as we were going. Thank you.

SPEAKER_02

Jamin, do you know Alex Thompson, your partner?

SPEAKER_04

I do now.

SPEAKER_02

You never met him before?

SPEAKER_04

I met him quick last week. I was at CTK when they did doubles there. So I met him. He's local, but he's like one of those guys who's been playing for a very long time, but like two or three times a year, and then just finally like actually got the bug. So fun guy to play with, super interested in learning. So that was really nice. Asking a lot of questions, very hard on himself, which can be tricky when you're a beginner, but he was out in the field throwing shots before the round, and then I showed him a couple of things after the round, and he was out in the field after the round throwing more shots. So I don't anticipate him being a beginner for too long.

SPEAKER_02

Well, you guys tied for third, minus three, not too shabby. Do you know Violence Sturdevant? Sturdivant, yeah. Sturdevant.

SPEAKER_03

Yeah, he actually might be coming down to Austin with us for the NADGT championship. We were talking with him uh that night. His dad was there as well and uh trying to plant the seed on getting them to come down with us. So I don't know how old he is. I wouldn't say he's older than 18, but uh he has the uh snap every time he throws a backhand, so he's he's throwing well.

SPEAKER_02

Is violence his real first name?

SPEAKER_03

Yeah.

unknown

All right.

SPEAKER_04

Yeah, this so I've actually I've seen this kid's name around a lot. He was a wrestler in high school, and I always kind of follow what's going on with wrestling. So his name stands out.

SPEAKER_02

Yeah.

SPEAKER_04

Interestingly, his dad grew up at CTK when it was the leather stocking farm.

SPEAKER_02

You're talking about Malice Sturdevant? No, Jason, actually. Oh Jason. That's awesome. But him and Ethan tied you guys for third at minus three. Joe, did you play Cali?

SPEAKER_03

I did. It was a little bit of a surprise, but I was happy to to do it. It made it interesting because uh Some of the challenges on the holes was like add up your teammate's score and put that down, or play with your teammate's disc, stuff like that. I either had to play twice, even though I was playing Cali, I was still playing as a second person, or with the the sharing a disc with your teammate, I just ended up three of us, two guys from the uh another team. Uh, we just kind of did a three-way switch. So we made it work. But yeah, I played Cali and it went well. I shot bogey free and uh had a lot of fun. Like the challenges that uh Dave Martin uh wrote up for the holes were a lot of fun ones, so it's kind of cool. Use one disc the entire hole, putt with your eyes closed, throw putter off the tee, throw a driver after that, throw a forehand if you're a backhander, throw it with your non-dominant hand, pick discs from your opponent's bag, trade bags with your partner, throw a roller off the tee, throw two off the tee, take your best lie. All players must throw turbo putt. Each player gets a mulligan, play from your worst throw or worst drive, play with a single color out of your bag for that hole, putt from a knee, twice or it's luck. Both partners must make a putt to finish that hole, which I ended up throwing like a 35-foot putt. Hit my first one, missed my second one, threw my cali, and hit that one to uh finish out that hole. That was kind of fun. Throw as many discs in five seconds as you can, take your best lie and best shot quads. All players from the hole or from that card will throw, and uh everyone receives the same score. So whoever throws the best that hole, everybody gets that score.

SPEAKER_02

Randy, if you had to throw just one color from your bag on a hole, doesn't matter what hole. Can you do that?

SPEAKER_05

Yeah, so my bag is I have no rules. Some people have like tons of color choices or like they, you know, they pick one color. If I had to throw one color the whole time, ooh, I don't even know. I might play the whole round with my blue putter just because I like it. And I maybe have another blue disc in there.

SPEAKER_02

Does anybody on here play with a light-colored bag?

SPEAKER_08

I mean, I have preferences, but it it's not a hard and fast rule by any means.

SPEAKER_02

So what color would you pick, Alex?

SPEAKER_08

Uh I would pick blue as well. I've got, at the very least, a mid, a driver, fairway that I can uh do just about anything with.

SPEAKER_07

I don't discriminate on the color of my disc, but on the plastic that they've been created out of. Just halos.

SPEAKER_02

Yeah. Maybe if you said just glow, but all my glows are even a different color. So yeah, I'd be screwed.

SPEAKER_08

How does like halo and uh MVP discs work for that? Like if I if I choose black, can I throw all of my MVP discs?

SPEAKER_04

No, no, no, no, no, no, no. Actually primary colors. Yeah.

SPEAKER_03

Yeah. I went with red because my putters are red, and then I had enough other discs that had red in them to justify throwing as a red. And then I was on the same card with Joe O and Logan, who took first, so got to see them uh beat me.

SPEAKER_02

You mean Joe Orbagzuki?

SPEAKER_03

Yeah, yeah, we just go with Joe O. He doesn't even say his last name. I like saying it, so I had to Yeah. Joe O sounds better. Yeah.

SPEAKER_02

Well, that's fair.

SPEAKER_03

Uh but you you shot minus six, they shot minus eight, so yeah, and the highlight was our last hole, which was six, which is a like a downhill throw. They needed a par to beat me. I needed a birdie to tie them, and uh we both had crappy second throws. Logan from say a third of the way down, there's a little kind of leveled out ridge. They threw from there, and Logan overthrew and was right and hit the I think it's a pine tree that's just right of the basket, hit the tree and right into the basket. So he took a birdie on an errant throw. So it was kind of fun. Nice. Yeah, it was fun to watch that. It was about 10 feet too high and and uh eight feet too right and just hit the tree and boom, right down in the basket.

DisCap Monthly

SPEAKER_02

The discap monthly this week was at SPW, right?

SPEAKER_03

Yep.

SPEAKER_02

And this was the inaugural event using Jagorsage's DG Leagues app. And from what I read, everything went pretty smoothly. So I'll give the results. Looks like Kat Chacha won the ladies' division, shot a minus three. Not too shabby. Uh Sparky Spaulding and Mark Ungerman tied for first in the rec division. Looks like there was no tiebreaker because they both got the same amount of pay. Am division, Benji Pharrell came in fifth place. Dan Perry and Kevin Newen tied for third. Brandon Klein and Josh Lee tied for first, but Josh Lee won in a two-hole playoff. They both shot minus two for the round. Tim Giardini won the Pro Division shooting also a minus two, but he aced hole 16. Anybody know about that hole? I don't I'm not familiar off the top of my head.

SPEAKER_07

218, it says it's mostly dead straight with a left finish, kind of throwing at some trees. There is a left side, like forehand route, I would say, that's also doable. I think that that's a pretty good ace. I mean, it's it's not the longest hole, but I just like for a disc to get to the basket, it's kind of gotta get not necessarily through some stuff, but definitely by some stuff.

SPEAKER_02

You gotta throw a good shot. Jay Gorsage and Adam Nelson tied for second at even par in the pro division. Obviously, the ace pop went to Tim Giardini, and Josh Lee took the four tag, the four discap tag. Alyssa Kaslin took the seven discap ladies tag, and Jay Gorsage took the six or kept the six Hudson Valley Disc golf podcast tag.

SPEAKER_07

Ooh, yeah, we should have had a separate container at CPS for Hudson Valley Disc golf tags.

SPEAKER_02

Well, there were four at this one.

Disc or No Disc

SPEAKER_02

All right, disc or no disc. We got five, Corey. You're gonna go first, but you only get to pick one person as your partner.

SPEAKER_07

I'm taking Jamin. Oh no, I'm just kidding. I'm just kidding. No one wants to hear that. Oh, that makes way more sense.

SPEAKER_02

What the hell?

SPEAKER_06

Man, I'm gonna get one pick. Who do I want to take for?

SPEAKER_05

You get one pick, but you get to go first too. The categories are written for you, Corey.

SPEAKER_02

Let's just clarify. One category was written for Corey. Okay. And it's a tough one. Quite possibly the toughest disc or no disc category in history to this point.

SPEAKER_07

If I was to pick someone most like me, I feel like I would maybe take Jamin. If I'm trying to find someone that's the least like me. I feel like it's between Alex and Joe.

SPEAKER_05

I mean, we were both sporting a mullet for a bit.

SPEAKER_07

Yeah.

SPEAKER_05

I'm just happy I got left out of this conversation.

SPEAKER_07

Yeah, I'll take Alex, I guess, after setting that all up.

SPEAKER_02

Alex, I guess.

unknown

Yeah.

SPEAKER_02

So we got Joe, Randy, and Jamin.

SPEAKER_07

That's a strong team.

SPEAKER_02

So Corey and Alex, would you like category one, category two, or category three for Dale?

SPEAKER_07

Yeah, I was gonna go three.

SPEAKER_02

I have no problems with this. All right. Question one, category three. Seceding the massive commercial triumph of the Model T, what classic car introduced in 1927 was the first automobile to display the iconic blue oval Ford logo? Seceding the massive commercial triumph of the Model T, what classic car introduced in 1927 was the first automobile to display the iconic blue oval Ford logo?

SPEAKER_07

God damn it. What the frick?

SPEAKER_02

I have no idea the difficulty in this round, so that's a hint.

SPEAKER_07

The 1920s Fords, I I can't think of anything other than Model T's and Model A's.

SPEAKER_08

Model A was also the word that came to mind, but I was I I I kind of figured the Model A came before the Model T.

SPEAKER_07

Yeah, but isn't historically like when they say that Henry Ford like revolutionalized like uh manufacturing with like the assembly line? That was for the Model T, right?

SPEAKER_08

Yeah.

SPEAKER_07

I saw let's go model A. It sounds like it came after.

SPEAKER_08

Yeah, I'm I'm just I'm I'm not a hundred percent sure the model A like he could have done that before he did the assembly line.

SPEAKER_07

It's true. It is true. Yeah, I I'd say we could just go model A.

SPEAKER_02

Sounds like a plan to me. You guys agree?

SPEAKER_07

Yeah.

SPEAKER_02

Is the model A or the A model a disc?

SPEAKER_07

So that sounds like a um Prodigy. Is it Prodigy or like Ace Line? Not Ace Line, yeah, Prodigy A model.

SPEAKER_08

Prodigy does like the model US. Yeah, model something, model US, yeah, that sort of thing. But those are generally like PA3 model US or something like that.

SPEAKER_07

I was leaning towards yes.

SPEAKER_08

I was also leaning towards yes. It feels like uh it feels like somebody else has uh probably has a model A.

SPEAKER_02

Surely. Let's go yes.

SPEAKER_08

I like it.

SPEAKER_02

You guys agree? Yep, yeah. The A model OS Distortion Prodigy Discs, November 9th, 2021. Good start. Now, according to our rules, I could have used distortion as an answer, right? Yeah, I would have known that disc as a distortion more than a model A. Well, you guys are up to nothing. Randy, Jamin, and Joe, category one, two, or three.

SPEAKER_05

All right, do we assume that the car category is Corey's category? And do we try to steal them from him? That would be the play.

SPEAKER_04

Yeah, but that's a risky one. It is. I don't know that much about cars.

SPEAKER_02

Neither do I. That's why I have no idea about the difficulty.

SPEAKER_04

That that's another fold. Wildcard round. I vote that we go to one or two first.

SPEAKER_03

Yeah, okay. Let Corey fail at his own category. Hopefully.

SPEAKER_04

Gloriously.

SPEAKER_03

No offense card. Don't root against the disc while it's in the air.

SPEAKER_02

I'm going with category one? Yep. Sounds good. All right. Question one, category one, coming from an old French word meaning heart. What term refers to the group of muscles including the rectus abdominis, obliques, and transverse abdominis that stabilize the spine and pelvis? Coming from an old French word meaning heart, what term refers to the group of muscles including the rectus abdominis, obliques, and transverse abdominis that stabilized the spine and pelvis?

SPEAKER_03

Joe. Maybe the abdominal muscles. I was gonna go core. Yeah, core is also.

SPEAKER_04

Oh, okay.

SPEAKER_03

Yeah, yep. It's it's gotta be core. I was way overthinking it.

SPEAKER_05

I was gonna say, I think it's question one. I don't know if it's gonna be abdominal something. Yeah, it was way over.

SPEAKER_04

Abdominus was also in the question. Yeah. That's my only stipulation. But yeah, core sounds good. I like it.

SPEAKER_02

You guys agree? Is the abdominal a now? Is the core a disc?

SPEAKER_05

I know the inner core is a disc.

SPEAKER_03

I don't know about the core. Sounds reasonable. I'm leaning more towards it being a disc than not a disc.

SPEAKER_04

Yeah.

SPEAKER_03

More staple of your bag.

SPEAKER_04

Yeah, yeah. Sounds like it makes sense in a couple different ways. I've never heard of it. I have heard of the inner core. I'm good with it, I guess. No strong feelings either way.

SPEAKER_05

Yeah, we can we'll go for it. Yes, Pat. I don't think we need a Costanza yet. It's Corey's birthday. Of course it is.

SPEAKER_02

You guys agree? It is a disc?

SPEAKER_05

Yes.

SPEAKER_02

Yeah. I will say the inner core and the outer core are discs. So was the core. Latitude 64, March 18th, 2008. Duh. I should have known that.

SPEAKER_04

It's like a straight mid-range. I used to throw that disc.

SPEAKER_02

Yeah, I was gonna say I might have owned one. Uh, but we're tied through round one. I'm sorry, Corey, what did you say? I missed it.

SPEAKER_07

No, it just sounds like that disc would be perfect for Jamin's question.

SPEAKER_02

What do you throw on a 200 open field? Yeah.

SPEAKER_07

A core. Yeah, it is. It is.

SPEAKER_02

All right. Corey and Alex, category one or category three, category two will be saved for a later date.

SPEAKER_07

Yeah, Alex, I got I gotta drag you along with me on this one.

SPEAKER_02

I gotta round the one.

SPEAKER_07

All right, we're going three, baby.

SPEAKER_02

All right, question two, category three. Introduced in 1986 based on the E30 chassis. What legendary high performance sports model developed by BMW's motorsports division became the benchmark for modern performance sedans and coups? Introduced in 1986 based on the E30 chassis. What legendary high performance sports model developed by BMW's motorsports division became the benchmark for modern performance sedans and coups?

SPEAKER_07

Gotta be an M3.

SPEAKER_02

I would not know.

SPEAKER_07

E30, let's see, E46 was the newer one. E30 was definitely an M3. An M5 would have been a different chassis code. So I think the answer is M3.

SPEAKER_02

It sounds good to me. Alex, based on your extensive car knowledge, would you agree? Uh is it a Mustang, Pat?

SPEAKER_07

Oh, I gotta remember this is this is a podcast. I gotta watch out.

SPEAKER_08

No, I I I know I know a Mustang is not a fan card, but that's that is the extent of what I would know about Mustang books.

SPEAKER_07

I got a lot to say about Mustangs, but I gotta keep it professional.

SPEAKER_05

You're a Ford guy, right?

SPEAKER_07

Oh my god, yeah. I'm pretty sure every time you buy a Ford, you open up the glove box and a and a and a bunch of dildos falls out of the glove box.

SPEAKER_08

M3 sounds real good. Is the M3 a disc? I think so.

SPEAKER_07

I mean, it's gotta be, right? Discmania does like MD3, but who makes like the like the A5 and the M4?

SPEAKER_08

That's Prodigy, which which I'm pretty sure would do M3.

SPEAKER_07

Yeah, I I yeah, I would say yes.

SPEAKER_08

I would also say yes.

SPEAKER_02

You guys agree?

SPEAKER_07

Yeah, yeah.

SPEAKER_02

M3 originally the M2 Prodigy Discs March 5th, 2013. Well, an interesting fact, the M2 was originally the M3, and they were released on the same day. Wait, for some reason they flipped them.

SPEAKER_08

I think they order them in order from stability, like the higher numbers are higher stability. So I think they probably just changed to that at some point. I don't know.

SPEAKER_07

But they're opposite of Disc Mania, right?

SPEAKER_08

Or or maybe it's the other way around where the low numbers are the more stable.

SPEAKER_07

But I feel like I feel like both of them.

SPEAKER_04

They are the MD5 is the most overstable one, but the M1 is the most over stable one for Prodigy.

SPEAKER_02

There you go. All right. Mm-hmm. That was one of the original reasons for this category, like to hear interesting notes like that. So that worked out. Uh Joe, Jamin, and Randy, category one or category three?

SPEAKER_05

I'm liking one. Sounds fine with me. Yeah, I would not have not have got that. So yeah, let's take in one.

SPEAKER_02

All right. Question two, category one, averaging roughly 5.51 grams per cubic centimeter. What planet holds the title of the densest planet in our solar system? Averaging roughly 5.51 grams per cubic centimeter. What planet holds the title of the densest planet in our solar system? Never under underestimate an old man with a four.

SPEAKER_05

That is 35. I think that's even better. Yep.

SPEAKER_03

So the gas planets are probably the least dense, I would say. I don't know about that.

SPEAKER_04

Yeah, that's I was like thinking they would be the most dense because they've they're the biggest, so they've got the most gravity. So they'd be the most polar.

SPEAKER_03

Yeah, but they're gaseous, so they're not gonna be as dense as a solid. But I think like Jupiter has like an iron core. I'm thinking like Mercury is probably the most dense, is my guess.

SPEAKER_05

I don't know. Rock I was gonna go like Neptune based on almost nothing other than I think it's a disc as well. But I think a lot of the planet names are. I don't know. I think the gas giants are dense though, because they're they have high gas energy, but they're like liquids.

SPEAKER_03

The gas is making me think it's not dense.

SPEAKER_04

It's not like a cloud of gas, it's like an ocean of gas.

SPEAKER_05

Yeah, like like rocks are like not super dense, actually. Where the hell it's Justin Park. Come on.

SPEAKER_04

Oh man, he's gonna be a good thing. I think it's Mercury. I have no idea.

SPEAKER_05

No. The more I think about it, the less I'm sure at all. Yeah, yeah. It's a lot of conjecture. You know, Mercury's like a fun answer too, because like liquid mercury is like like the most dense liquid, but yeah.

SPEAKER_04

I mean it's an air.

SPEAKER_05

That's wrong. I think that might be wrong, so don't quote me on that, everybody. Shoot. Are we going with mercury? I think it's a rock.

SPEAKER_04

I don't have anything better. Are we gonna go with mercury?

SPEAKER_05

I guess we're going with mercury.

SPEAKER_03

I feel like it's mercury. My scientific brain's telling me mercury. Uh, okay, fine. You guys agree?

SPEAKER_04

Doesn't sound like it, but yeah, yeah, yeah. Let's go with that one.

SPEAKER_02

We're going with it. Alex and Corey, averaging roughly 5.51 grams per cubic centimeter. What planet holds the title as the densest planet in our solar system?

SPEAKER_08

I mean, if it's not gonna be Mercury, I'm gonna say it's Jupiter.

SPEAKER_07

I was kind of thinking Jupiter.

SPEAKER_08

Like, I I totally get where they're coming from with the you know, gas being less dense, but there's just so much of it.

SPEAKER_07

What number of planet is Jupiter?

SPEAKER_08

Like uh in the uh six, five, five? I think it's either five or six.

SPEAKER_07

Yeah, I was leaning towards Jupiter when it when he first asked it. So I say Jupiter.

SPEAKER_02

You guys agree? Let's go, Jupiter. We were looking for Earth.

SPEAKER_07

Wait, what?

SPEAKER_02

Mercury is second.

SPEAKER_07

Damn it. Very close to that.

SPEAKER_02

You were on the right thought process, Joe. Just yeah, Earth is a little more, yeah.

SPEAKER_04

I would have never guessed that. It's because of all the jumping up and down we do. I would have thought all the airheads we got walking around here that we would have had.

SPEAKER_02

But that was a steal for Corey and Alex.

SPEAKER_07

Twas it a disc, sir.

SPEAKER_02

Oh, the Earth is not a disc. Thank you for would you like question three in one or question three in three?

SPEAKER_07

Three, Pat. Let me see three.

SPEAKER_02

Sorry, Alex. Um even if you protest, I'm gonna go with it.

SPEAKER_08

As long as he keeps getting them right, I'm not gonna complain.

SPEAKER_02

All right, question three, category three, debuting for the 2001 model year. What three-letter model name identifies Acura's flagship three-row mid-size luxury crossover SUV? Debuting for the 2001 model year. What three-letter model name identifies Acura's flagship three-row mid-size luxury crossover SUV?

SPEAKER_07

God damn it. The only Acura like SUV I can think of is MDX.

SPEAKER_08

That sounds like a disc name.

SPEAKER_07

It does. It does actually, it does kind of sound like a disc name. Third row pasture. I wouldn't think it'd be like an MD7 or an MD5 if it was like a hatchback five-door. But an MDX, I definitely know it's a vehicle. I just didn't realize if that is the answer. I didn't think it came out in 2001. Not that I would have known, but not a big accurate guy. I MDX, I guess.

SPEAKER_02

MDX sounds good to me. You guys agree?

SPEAKER_08

Yeah.

SPEAKER_02

Is the MDX a disc. I'm not a Honda. Mm-hmm. That's what it stands for. Multi-dimensional executive. That's actually what it stands for. That's weird because that's the dumbest thing. Fun fact.

SPEAKER_08

Yeah, that's why they call it the MDX.

SPEAKER_02

The MDX was the first crossover SUV to feature standard three-row seating, laying the blueprint for mid-sized luxury family haulers that followed. Not to do a commercial for Acura.

SPEAKER_07

Wait, did you say the first crossover?

SPEAKER_02

The first crossover SUV to feature standard three-row seating.

SPEAKER_07

Because I was gonna say, like freaking Chevy Suburban's been doing that for a long time, but they weren't they weren't a crossover.

SPEAKER_02

But is the MDX a disc?

SPEAKER_08

Uh I mean it kind of fits Discmania's naming scheme.

SPEAKER_07

Minus the number part though.

SPEAKER_08

Yeah, like they've they've had X's before. Like the PDX is a is a Dismania disc.

SPEAKER_07

I like that then. So yes. I I like yes. Yes. You guys agree? Yeah, let's go yes. I'm sorry, nuke. Not this time.

SPEAKER_02

Uh it's not a total slam dump quarry, but hey, you guys are up five to two.

SPEAKER_07

He could take the blame on that one.

SPEAKER_02

But you guys are still down a question, Randy, Jamin, and Joe. Question three and one or question four and three?

SPEAKER_05

I feel like we have no shot at getting one in three.

SPEAKER_02

Now, mind you, three might be getting easier. I don't know. I hasn't yet.

SPEAKER_04

Yeah, I'm all for three on that one.

SPEAKER_05

But do you guys not love Corey's thought processes? I love to hear there are gears turning in Corey's head. I didn't know.

SPEAKER_07

Do you not drive down the highway and try to play the uh name that car game? Absolutely not.

SPEAKER_05

No, Corey. I've owned like three cars, but I don't I don't like them. I just have to have them.

SPEAKER_07

The best part is when I travel like once every five years, like down south, like the Carolinas or Florida, where like there's no Ross, and I'm like, oh no shit. A clean 1998 base model Toyota Corolla? So cool.

SPEAKER_02

Category one, Pat. Question three, category one. Officially designated as the MIM 104. What surface-to-air missile defense system developed by Raytheon gained widespread international fame during the 1991 Gulf War for intercepting Iraqi scud missiles? Officially designated the MIM 104. What surface-to-air missile defense system developed by Raytheon gained widespread international fame during the 1991 Gulf War for intercepting Iraqi scud missiles.

SPEAKER_05

That's a Patriot? I thought it was like something dome.

SPEAKER_04

Iron Dome? Is that it? Is that what they're doing right now, though? I thought that was way newer than 1991.

SPEAKER_03

Pretty sure it's a Patriot. That was a definitely missile. Wait. Yeah.

SPEAKER_04

You are the only person who was watching the news in 1991. What was the category so far? Corey.

SPEAKER_05

The category is like round feeling. So I thought the Iron Dome did make sense. I don't know. I thought he was saying more of like a system than like the uh Patriot missile.

SPEAKER_04

Yeah.

SPEAKER_05

Could we hear the question?

SPEAKER_02

One more time, maybe? Certainly. Officially designated as the MIM 104, what surface-to-air missile defense system developed by Raytheon gained widespread international fame during the 1991 Gulf War for intercepting Iraqi scud missiles. Now I'm not sure.

SPEAKER_04

I wonder if the Iron Dome utilized Patriot missiles.

SPEAKER_05

Yeah, like the Iron Dome is like synonymous with like the Israeli airspace, but now we're talking like Kuwait and Iraq, so maybe it is Patriot Missile. Oh God. Well, I think we've given away the answer either way. Or we're just totally off. Or we could just be super wrong.

SPEAKER_04

Shit. Uh I don't know.

SPEAKER_05

Patriot's a disc. Patriot is a disc. Patriot. Send it. All right.

SPEAKER_02

We're going Patriot, Pat. You guys agree?

SPEAKER_03

Yep. Yep.

SPEAKER_02

We were looking for phased array tracking radar to intercept on target. Patriot.

SPEAKER_03

That is a disc. Yeah.

SPEAKER_02

Is the Patriot a disc? Love it.

SPEAKER_05

Yes. Yeah, it's like legacy, I think. Yep. Yep.

SPEAKER_08

That is a good example of a backronym if I remember so.

SPEAKER_02

Yeah. Yeah, right. Randy, can you be more specific? What year?

SPEAKER_05

Oh man, 2015? I'm gonna say 2012.

SPEAKER_03

Okay. Joe? Uh go one above what would you say? 2016 then?

SPEAKER_02

All right. Uh legacy discs, November twenty eighth, twenty twelve. Wow. Halfway through, you guys are down five to four. Corey and Alex, question four and one or question four and three?

SPEAKER_07

Uh, which one do you want, Alex? Oh, sorry, you're muted. Oh, let's go with three, Pat.

SPEAKER_08

I mean, that's what I was gonna say. You've gotten them right. You keep keep them running until until you feel like you don't want to do it anymore. I'm happy going three. Oh, yeah, let's go with three.

SPEAKER_02

All right. Question four, category three, launched for the 2000 model year as the company's first ever entry into the SUV market. What mid-size crossover model did BMW famously market as a sport utility vehicle, SAV? Launched for the 2000 model year as the company's first ever entry into the SUV market. What mid-size crossover model did BMW famously market as a sports activity vehicle, SAV?

SPEAKER_07

Well, I'd imagine it's either an X3 or an X5. The X3 would be smaller. I don't know if it came out this. First of all, I'm more of a Chevy guy. Which was all this foreign BS? I kind of want to lean X5. Like, that's definitely a disc. I'm pretty sure I've given Kevin Rounds back at least two of them and like 150 gram weight. I think since we already went M3 that maybe go X5, even though I think X5 might be a better answer, anyways.

SPEAKER_08

I am happy with going with whatever you want to go with.

SPEAKER_07

Let's go um X5.

SPEAKER_02

Do you guys agree?

SPEAKER_07

Yeah.

SPEAKER_02

Sure. Is the X5 a disc?

SPEAKER_07

I thought I was gonna say I'm sorry, uh Randy Alex or Randy, Damon, and Joe. Uh is the X5 a disc? I'm pretty sure it's a Prodigy disc.

SPEAKER_08

I would be very confident it is a Prodigy Prodigy disc. You know what I'm saying?

SPEAKER_07

Yes, it's a disc. Uh yeah, X5, yes, it's a disc.

SPEAKER_05

Can you guys be more specific? What year? Did it just come out? Sorry, I'm interjecting. You're you're allowed to. I have no idea. I think it just came out. That's just me. I'm gonna say 2018.

SPEAKER_08

Alex? I'll say 2020 just to put a number on the board.

SPEAKER_02

And Randy, we got you at 2026 because it you think it just came out? I don't know what day it was. Yeah. Prodigy discs, April 3rd, 2017. Oh no.

SPEAKER_04

It's like it was yesterday.

SPEAKER_05

I swear they I swear they just put one out with an X in it, but maybe that'll be the next question.

SPEAKER_02

As a nerf disc. The X1, August today. Oh shit. I didn't realize.

SPEAKER_05

Okay, so I did just see that.

SPEAKER_02

Okay. I swear I checked at like noon. And yeah, X1, it says in parentheses, new prodigy disc. Oh, that's cool. Randy, Joe, and Jamin, question four and one or question five and three.

SPEAKER_05

Pretty sure we're doing category one, right? Yeah, you guys like all new the last one, I bet, but we'll just stick to one.

SPEAKER_04

Yeah, just to be safe.

SPEAKER_02

All right, question four, category one, also known as a whistle pig. What burrowing rodent is capable of dropping its heart rate from 80 beats per minute down to around five beats per minute, making it one of North America's few true hibernators? Also known as a whistle pig. What burrowing rodent is capable of dropping its heart rate from 80 beats per minute down to around five beats per minute, making it one of North America's few true hibernators?

SPEAKER_05

All right. Man, I thought this was gonna be a whiskey question for a second. Well, there's what prairie dog, groundhog, goph. Groundhog is what I would go with. Just the pig part, groundhog, whistle pig. Mm-hmm. Mm-hmm.

SPEAKER_04

Yeah, that was my thought too.

SPEAKER_05

Yeah, I like that.

SPEAKER_02

You guys agree? Yeah. Uh yep. Is the groundhog the disc?

SPEAKER_04

I believe it is. I think it's uh that Canadian company, Daredevil.

SPEAKER_02

Ooh, let's do it.

SPEAKER_04

Sounds good.

SPEAKER_02

You guys agree? Yep. Elevation disc golf, April 6th, 2026. Could also be called the Marmot. What's the score? Through four rounds, it is seven to six. Corey and Alex, question five and one or question five and three.

SPEAKER_07

You want to uh flip-flop Alex? Well, that's too damn bad. I don't give up fucking you.

SPEAKER_08

I was thinking if we force them into the car questions, we might get some steals.

SPEAKER_05

Oh. You'll never convince Corey of that.

SPEAKER_07

I'm starting to think that Corey has a birthday sash. Yeah. Actually, I am drinking some Udica Clubs that someone brought my birthday, a little six-pack pounder action.

SPEAKER_04

What does that have to do with a birthday sash?

SPEAKER_07

Well, if I take these cans and I cut them vertically and then flatten them out, I can probably make a sash or at least a belt. You know what, Alex? This one's up to you. I do like that strap, but I'm I'll leave this one up to you. This is your this is your pick.

SPEAKER_08

I would not have known Groundhog, but I would have had pretty good guesses at Corey and Page Road.

SPEAKER_07

What about Earth?

SPEAKER_08

We got Earth wrong, Corey.

SPEAKER_07

Let's stick with three. Let's stick with three.

SPEAKER_08

All right, let's do it.

SPEAKER_02

Alright, question five, category three. Produced from 1991 to 1998. What front wheel drive Mazda Sport Compact Hatchback gained fame for offering one of the smallest displacement mass production V6 engines ever made? A 1.8 liter V6 produced from 1991 to 1998. What front wheel drive Mazda Sport Compact Hatchback gained fame for offering one of the smallest displacement mass production V6 engines ever made? A 1.8 liter V6.

SPEAKER_06

Oof 90s Mazda Hatchback. Mazda Hatchback, so why can't I think of any Mazda hatchback?

SPEAKER_08

He said Mazda, and the first thing I thought of was CX6, but I don't know if that's a Mazda car. It's just word association.

SPEAKER_07

Well, Mazda has like their newer cars are like CX5s and CX3, which is like a three-door or five-door hatchback.

SPEAKER_08

Oh. Him also talking about the the V6 engine made me think six as well.

SPEAKER_07

Yeah, and I keep trying, I keep trying to think of Volkswagen. I'm trying to not think of Volkswagen because they're kind of more like 90s hatchback. Frick. I don't think these guys are gonna get them either, but Mazda hatchback. Well, okay, so the Mazda Miata is kind of also called the MX5. So maybe there was an MX3. I that's just kind of a guess. I I have no idea. I I can't think of a 90s Mazda hatchback.

SPEAKER_08

I got nothing. You heard the extent of my knowledge. So if you're feeling like going one direction, let's do it.

SPEAKER_07

MX3.

SPEAKER_08

Alex, you agree?

SPEAKER_02

Sure. Is the MX3?

SPEAKER_07

Yes! Yes, I did. Who do you think you are?

SPEAKER_02

I it's 1.8 liter K8 V6 engine had a red line of 7,000 RPM and was engineered specifically to comply with Japanese vehicle size and engine displacement tax regulations.

SPEAKER_07

Oh hell yeah. Them them Japanese people, they had a lot of gentlemen's agreements back then too. Like a like a 276 horsepower rule. MX3?

SPEAKER_08

MX3 could be prodigy.

SPEAKER_07

Yeah, I don't hate it. I I would lean yes.

SPEAKER_08

I'm happy going yes.

SPEAKER_07

Let's go yes, Pat.

SPEAKER_08

You guys agree?

SPEAKER_07

Mm-hmm.

SPEAKER_08

Yeah. What year? I don't know.

SPEAKER_02

2016.

SPEAKER_07

Yeah, 2022. 19.

SPEAKER_02

Oh, Prodigy Disc, May 7th, 2019.

SPEAKER_04

Jamin. If you go and look at the original promo videos for that, you will see Ricky Steeler, who is now a resident of Saratoga. Oh, really? Yep.

SPEAKER_02

Who stole him for Team Challenge?

SPEAKER_04

Ooh, that's a good question.

SPEAKER_03

He wasn't on a team last year. Yeah.

SPEAKER_04

Yeah. He's he actually plays for Rhode Island because he lived out there for a long time in New England, at least.

SPEAKER_02

Randy, Joe, and Jamin, question five and one or six and three. I got nine to six. You're down three points. Sound right, Alex? Yeah.

SPEAKER_08

Uh that's what I got. Yep.

SPEAKER_02

So we're sticking in one? Mm-hmm. All right, question five, category one, discovered in 2020 using the speculus telescope network. The earth-sized planet labeled K two three one five B completes a full orbit around its star in just over 75 hours, which earned it the mathematical nickname the What Planet. Discovered in 2020, the Speculus S-P-E-C-U-L-O-O-S telescope network. The Earth-sized planet labeled K2315B completes a full orbit around its star in just over 75 hours, which earned it the mathematical nickname the What Planet.

SPEAKER_05

So I think I know the category, but I don't want to give it away yet. But I don't know if we have any guesses either. It's not like they're gonna They might.

SPEAKER_04

Yeah, if we don't get it right, but I have zero guesses without having any idea what the category is.

SPEAKER_05

I think they're holidays, Patriots Day, Groundhog Day, Earth Day. I don't know what core day is, but sure it exists. Every day if you go to the gym. Fair.

SPEAKER_04

All right, so rotating around the sun, that's that's a day, right? Yep. Okay. Yeah. I'm just making sure like I'm at least thinking on the right track.

SPEAKER_05

So that's a year. No, no, no, sorry, it's a year. Oh, it's a year is 72 hours or whatever short. 75 hours. Yeah. Leap. No, that's wait. No, that's not like a holiday. It's just like a problem. That's not a day. No. Well, what are the holidays?

SPEAKER_03

New Year's, Martin Luther King. Christmas. Hello. Independence day, Labor Day. Can't think of any that would be No, nothing sounds good for this.

SPEAKER_05

Yeah. No, nothing at all. Indigenous People's Day. Yep.

SPEAKER_04

Well, and I think that core day does make sense if we're not pigeonholing it into a holiday, just something that's called a day.

SPEAKER_05

Yeah, I have no idea. Yeah, yeah. Like Cor Day's the only one that even like throws it off. Yeah. It could just be things that end in day. Sunday?

SPEAKER_03

Oh my god. It sounds kind of good. Sun one day.

SPEAKER_05

Sunday.

SPEAKER_03

In a day around the sun, one day. Yeah, I don't know.

SPEAKER_05

Yeah, I've I don't even know where to like start guessing. No. Like Sunday. It's just funny. 3.1 Pi Day? Pi Day. Oh my god. Pi, Pat. Yeah. It's Pi, isn't it?

SPEAKER_04

You guys agree?

SPEAKER_05

I'm good with it. Yeah. Is the Pi a disc? Gotta be right. Sounds reasonable.

SPEAKER_04

Yeah.

SPEAKER_05

Pi Pan Discs.

SPEAKER_04

That's where Frisbees came from was Pi 10, so it would make sense if one was called the Pi. Doesn't mean somebody did it, but it would make sense.

SPEAKER_05

Yeah. If it's not, it's lame.

SPEAKER_04

Yeah.

SPEAKER_05

Okay. Yeah. We're going yes.

SPEAKER_02

You guys agree? Yeah. I'm sorry, no. What the What? There is a disc golf company called Pi Pan Discs. That's what I thought.

SPEAKER_03

Pipan discs.

SPEAKER_02

Alright. So final round. I got Alex correct me. I got nine to seven. That's what I got. Corey and Alex. Would you like question six and one or question six and three? Up to you. Gotta be three. Sounds good. Question six, category three introduced in 1994 as the successor to the Audi 80. What line of compact executive cars has long served as Audi's flagship competitor to the BMW three series and Mercedes-Benz C Class? Introduced in 1994 as the successor to the Audi 80. What line of compact executive cars has long served as Audi's flagship competitor to the BMW 3 series and Mercedes-Benz C class?

SPEAKER_07

Uh, first instinct is A4.

SPEAKER_08

For what it's worth, that's also the word association thing that popped in my head.

SPEAKER_07

They had an A5, I think, but that was bigger. I can't really think of an A3 or an A2. T T was more of a coop looking thug looking thing. A4 quad. Yeah, I say A4.

SPEAKER_08

Sounds good to me.

SPEAKER_07

Let's go A4 Pat.

SPEAKER_02

You guys agree?

SPEAKER_07

Yeah.

SPEAKER_02

Is the A4 a disc?

SPEAKER_08

I would be very confident that Prodigy makes an A4.

SPEAKER_07

Yeah, I just I can never remember how far down the number line they go.

SPEAKER_08

Yeah, I think it changes depending on uh what it is. Like mid-rangers go down to you know eight or whatever, fairways go to nine.

SPEAKER_07

Wait, what the hell? Really? Oh Rick.

SPEAKER_08

I don't know. I'm I'm making up these numbers.

SPEAKER_07

Oh, I know they have like an F7, so yeah, you're not wrong.

SPEAKER_08

Yeah, I know. I know a seven for sure.

SPEAKER_07

I'd say yes to A4.

SPEAKER_08

I like A4 as a disc as well.

SPEAKER_02

You guys agree? Yeah. Jamin, what year?

SPEAKER_04

2021.

SPEAKER_02

Anybody have a differing opinion? Alex Prodigy Discs, May 10th, 2016. Whoa.

SPEAKER_09

That's really cool.

SPEAKER_02

Congratulations, Corey and Alex. Alex, you did some heavy lifting. Good job. Got lifted heavily. Randy, Joe, and Jamin. Final question, category one. Built in 1993 for display at the Kennedy Space Center. What full-scale replica of a space shuttle orbiter, originally named Explorer, was renamed in 2013 to honor human space exploration. Built in 1993 for display at the Kennedy Space Center. What full-scale replica of a space shuttle, orbiter, originally named Explorer, was renamed in 2013 to honor human space exploration.

SPEAKER_04

Renamed? My first thought is Columbus.

SPEAKER_05

Explorer three, Indigenous People's Day.

SPEAKER_04

1993, not 2003.

SPEAKER_09

Yeah, fair.

SPEAKER_05

I guess Columbus.

SPEAKER_04

Just because it's like Explorer, it's you know, like No, I'm totally with you.

SPEAKER_05

Okay. You guys agree? I think so. Columbia Challenger. I'm trying to think of the names of the nope. There's no Challenger Day.

SPEAKER_04

Well, it was it was renamed. So it was just renamed to when they put it in the museum.

SPEAKER_02

Yeah, it was Explorer. They renamed it in 2013. So that might help.

SPEAKER_05

Arbor.

SPEAKER_02

Tax.

SPEAKER_09

Oh no.

SPEAKER_05

I don't think we need to dwell on it too long. No, we've already go with Columbus on this. You guys good with Columbus? Yep. Corey and Alex.

SPEAKER_02

What do you think?

SPEAKER_08

I can reread it, but New Year's. New Year's.

SPEAKER_02

We're looking for independence.

SPEAKER_07

Ah, yeah.

SPEAKER_02

Oh. Yeah, so Core Day, Earth Day, Patriots Day, Groundhog Day, Pi Day, and Independence Day. What was category three? Round three was just car shit. There's a lot of uh alphanumeric discs that I needed to use.

Sweet Up Hudson Valley!

SPEAKER_03

So any events coming up? Uh I believe there's a circuit challenge at uh Crandall Park coming up. Oh, that's August 15th. That is actually coming up. Wow, that's crazy. It's August already. Cranmore flex at Jenkinsville. Have you ever heard of the Bat and Kill Open?

SPEAKER_04

Oh, yeah, that's like at the end of the month, though. That's fair. It is coming up. August 30th.

SPEAKER_02

Is full registration open, Jamin?

SPEAKER_04

Oh, yeah, it's been open for a while. There's just, I think, people are kind of burnt out on tournaments at the end of the season.

SPEAKER_02

So August 30th, the Bat and Kill Open?

SPEAKER_04

Oh, and uh the Flex at Prospect is on Friday as well. I got a quick story because I forgot to mention it involves Brian Heller from Warwick. I was playing a quick practice round on the Friday before the tournament, and I throw a second shot on seven blue to silver and I ace it. And I'm looking around. Hole seven's a hole where there's people everywhere, or there should be, right? There's hole eights right next to it, hole 14, hole one, hole two. I was expecting somebody to be around the whole parking lot. There's nobody around, it's a ghost town. And I'm like walking down, like looking around, like expecting somebody to have seen it because it's a blind hole and you can't see it. And I wanted to share it with somebody, and and who pops out of his car but Brian Heller to save the day and have seen the ace. So I forgot to mention that the other day, and I felt bad. Nice job on the ace. Yeah, it was a second shot, but it was it was I was still pretty happy.

SPEAKER_02

I think in in the disc golf terminology, we would call that a throw-in, but still, yeah, we call that.

SPEAKER_04

Who fucking cares, Jamin?

SPEAKER_02

It's interesting because I was surprised we talked about Sir Didymus's defense and Brian Heller wasn't there. Was there something at Warwick this weekend?

SPEAKER_04

Oh, yeah. Jason Murak is his name, I think. He he ran a like little tournament.

SPEAKER_07

Running, it's coming up this weekend.

SPEAKER_04

Oh, it's this weekend? Then I have no idea.

SPEAKER_07

C tier at Warwick and Oasis.

SPEAKER_02

Renaissance Man returns to Sunday, August 9th, hosted by Jason Murak. Registration closes August 8th at 8 a.m. So you have till Saturday. Two rounds C tier, Warwick Park, and the Oasis. First round silver blue at Breakwell, one hour lunch after last card finishes. Second round will be a modified version of the Oasis League layout.

SPEAKER_07

Oh, what freaking Rob Veliky backed out, that son of a bitch. That he I he was gonna be the only one that was gonna get me down there. I mean, I'm busy, but if I wasn't going down there.

SPEAKER_02

So you were planning on playing it, but you're not now, Corey?

SPEAKER_07

No, I would say 2080, 20% chance I make it, 8% chance I don't. I mean, the biggest thing was the fact that I did not play Warwick this year, which would have like led me to go down there, but I don't know. At this point, I look I look at my August calendar and see that it's kind of wide open and I kind of like can breathe. It's kind of nice not having a bunch of shit on the on the calendar, but I'll probably I'll probably take that as a free weekend, do some other stuff.

SPEAKER_04

Dude, I don't know about you, but I kept thinking yesterday was Monday because I'm so used to two to three-day tournaments I didn't know what the hell to do after a Saturday.

SPEAKER_07

Yeah, if I didn't spend my Sunday by driving my motorcycle two hours up to Utica to hang out for an hour and a half and then turn around and drive two hours home, I would have felt the same way. But yeah, no, I it it's been nice not playing so many like uh two or three-day events recently. Oh, and it's on Sunday. I didn't really think about that either. It's not even on Saturday.

SPEAKER_02

Any birthdays coming up? Uh well Mark Bryan, we I'm sure we mentioned him last week, but his was the first.

SPEAKER_03

Yeah, got uh Ricky Steeler, we just mentioned him. His birthday is tomorrow. Alex Potts.

SPEAKER_02

I was gonna say, Alex, do you have any birthdays coming up? Do you know of any?

SPEAKER_08

Yeah, uh me uh on the sixth. Alexander Paleto is like central New York or up north one way or another. She's on the eighth.

SPEAKER_07

The better half of uh the Wychowski clan, his uh his wife Carolyn, August 6th.

SPEAKER_02

Nice, nice. Nice. Scott Spellman, Warwick guy, he's uh the sixth. The seventh, I got Brandon Lopez, wedge guy. Thomas Budrowitz, Long Island guy, he's August 4th tomorrow. Any last minute additions before we go?

SPEAKER_08

Yeah, sign up for the local events. You know, the circuit challenge on the 15th, Sony Kill Scramble, Bat and Kill, you know, all these things. If you want to play, sign up.

SPEAKER_02

Absolutely, sign up. Rated Seagulls League at uh Wild West Ranch on Thursdays. All right, well, thank you, Joe, Corey, Randy, Jamin, Alex. Thanks for joining us, Stacy Blasdell, and uh Sweet Up Hut Spell. Thanks, Pat.

SPEAKER_05

Thanks, Pat. Thanks, Bat.

SPEAKER_02

Thanks.
