This Week on The Hudson Valley Disc Golf Podcast: Alex, Randy, Corey and Evan were here to recap the previous week in local disc golf.
While Alex and Randy prepare for running tournaments this weekend, Evan and Corey compete to see who could play more disc golf during the hottest week of the summer. Including their rounds at the Burbine Flex.
We spent a few minutes discussing the proposed PDGA rules for 2027 and caught up on SkipAce and the Summer Battle Royale and finished it up with a round of Disc or No Disc pitting JPark vs. Stonykill.

HelderBERG Championship 2 and OKDGC Circuit Challenge
SPEAKER_01So this weekend on Saturday is the Heldeberg, is it the Helderberg 2?
SPEAKER_04How's that going? It is the Helderberg 2. Yeah, we we've gained a handful more people. There's still spots open, honestly, at this point. I don't even care. You can show up the morning of I'll still add you. I might even matter. What course is this? Uh it's at Thatcher State Park. And uh if this is their first time hearing about it, it's a berg-only tournament. You can bring your own. It's gotta be a berg.
SPEAKER_06No burg X's.
SPEAKER_04No Berg X's. And you'll get a premium berg in your player pack.
SPEAKER_06You don't need any burgs, but you can bring them if you want them.
SPEAKER_03And this is Saturday?
SPEAKER_06Saturday.
SPEAKER_03Yes. One round. It's two. Two rounds. Sorry. I wasn't planning on going, but I might.
SPEAKER_01So that's on Saturday. Uh you can show up morning of and probably still have a chance to get in. A good chance, right? Randy, you're sorry.
SPEAKER_04I would say a good chance at this point. Yeah.
SPEAKER_01Okay. And then on Sunday we got what, Alex?
SPEAKER_06The OKDGC Circuit Challenge, which is the first tournament at OKDGC, playing from the Reds, the short layout using just the three discs that MVP provides. If you liked the berg, we've got a similar thing that you can throw in this one too, called the range. You can't bring your burgs to this one. You can bring whatever you want, but you can only throw the three discs that we give you for the event. And we've still got a couple of spots left. It looks like seven slots as of right now, because you have to throw these specific discs. Where we only have a limited number of slots. So if you want to play, make sure you get in as soon as possible.
SPEAKER_01So it sounds like if you want to get in on Randy's, even if he runs out of disc, he'll give you combo call his. But Alex is like, you're stuck with what I got, basically. Yeah, pretty much.
Intro Music Provided by Wheels
SPEAKER_01Welcome to the Hudson Valley Discope podcast. A couple weeks ago, the episode was sponsored by all our Patreons at The Jammer. Last week it was Greg Kurtz. This week it's everyone who didn't play the jammer and whose name is not Greg Kurtz. So we got Tim Goyette, Peter Hodge, Brian Monahan. It's all in cap, so I had to emphasize it. Evan Parsley, Mark Bryan, Nick Warren, Terry Hudson, The Reaper, Kyle Hirsch, Sparky Spaulding, Mike Schwartz, William Byrne, Jack Bradley, Troy Veseri, Eric Heinel, Peter Fitzisti, and Pat Tat Jeffries. As usual, we've got a lot to talk about this week. To help get through that, we got Alex, Randy, Corey, and Evan. Jamin may or may not be here in a bit. No Tim, Joe, or Jason tonight. I hear they're plotting a competing podcast.
SPEAKER_02I bet it'll suck. Yeah, no doubt. Who's gonna edit it for?
SPEAKER_01Um, quick question: which is dumber? Cumberland Farms having blueberry coffee, or that the label for blueberry coffee is the same color as regular coffee.
SPEAKER_05The second one.
SPEAKER_03The second one for sure.
SPEAKER_01Yeah. It's got like little blueberry lit look to it, but it's the same exact color. That's dumb.
SPEAKER_03No, that's whack.
SPEAKER_01Has anybody had blueberry coffee?
SPEAKER_03I've had the at Stewart's. I'll do like a little bit of that and then top it off with regular just for a little splash of flavor.
SPEAKER_01It's been on my nerves, and I if I don't write it down, I don't mention it, so I had to make a note to uh point that out.
SPEAKER_03If I got surprised blueberry coffee and wasn't expecting it, I would not be happy.
SPEAKER_01I haven't yet, but I know it's coming. So I figure the more I I point it out, the less likely it'll be to happen.
Storm at Stonykill
SPEAKER_01So we got a bunch of stuff that we either didn't get to or there's just always stuff coming up.
SPEAKER_05Oh, speed night or speed dating.
SPEAKER_01I don't think we're gonna pick holes, but we're definitely gonna pick topics.
SPEAKER_05Sure, sure.
SPEAKER_01But I do think we should start with Stony Kill, Alex. So what happened at Stony Kill? I mean, I've seen a lot of pictures, but I don't know like anything about the storm or anything like that.
SPEAKER_05Wait, can you first tell us how long it's been since the last one?
SPEAKER_06Yeah, so uh when was the previous storm? Was it 22 or 23?
SPEAKER_01Oh, I thought it was more recent than that, no?
SPEAKER_04Yeah, I would have said at least 23 at the longest uh go. Because we did like one full season of team challenge with no holes one and two, and then we did have them this last season.
SPEAKER_06Yeah, so maybe it was summer of 23.
SPEAKER_00On September 8th, 2023, Jason Gorsage posted on the discap Facebook page Stony Kill got blasted last night.
SPEAKER_06Whatever it was. Effectively, a storm hit, I want to say it was the evening of July 3rd, it was very windy, and Chatham specifically was very windy. I don't know why Chatham got hit so hard, but it did. Like hole one, there are no trees left. All of the trees were broken off at like five to ten feet above the ground. So hole one's basically dead. The basket got hit. Hole two is a very similar story. A basket got hit on that one as well. Everywhere else there's something going on one way or another, you know, with with trees down or leaning or, you know, about to fall one way or another. So yeah, not exactly ideal. We were at okay all week doing work to prep for the circuit challenge, and okay got hit basically not at all. But yeah, clearing up as much as possible. The course is currently closed. Don't go to Stony Kill expecting to play. But if you can go and and volunteer, uh, you know, talk to Gene, talk to Travis. We're planning on doing a workday on Wednesday instead of doubles. Oh, and the parking lot, the main parking lot is closed for the next couple of days for them to pave. The town is paving that parking lot, repaving it. So um, so don't park there. There's a different route to go. So make sure you contact someone before you show up. But yeah, if you can get out there, uh, there's a GoFundMe. If you can, if you can support monetarily, if you can get out there and just, you know, be a body to move some wood, that's more than enough to justify coming out and helping. So anything you can do.
SPEAKER_01Has anybody been out there?
SPEAKER_06Yeah, Travis and Gene and sort of sort of the whole, you know, classic Stony Kill crew, Kevin Gordon, uh Rory Tice has been out there. Basically, if if you can think of a Stony Kill regular that that works on courses, they've been out there at least a little bit. They're gonna get a logging company in to get holes one and two. So those are those are basically a wash at this point. Anywhere else on the course needs at least a little bit of something to get some trees out of the way or get some branches off the off the teapads or whatever.
SPEAKER_01So any thoughts on how it might look after cleanup as far as new holes or anything?
SPEAKER_06There's thoughts. We're thinking hole three will probably become the new hole one, but hole three got hit pretty hard as well, so that's not a guarantee. There's been ideas floated around where like maybe we play over the opened up area where you play from like hole one's teapad to hole three's basket because that whole area is just so open now. In the short term, I'm sure we'll play 14 B and C to make it 18 holes. In the long term, the parcel that Sony Kills on is like 115 acres. The town has said, you know, we don't want you to expand in this direction because they want to split it up for either like senior housing or affordable housing or something like that. That was several years ago at this point. I don't know if those plans are still in place. I have to hope that we'd be able to go to the town and be like, hey, you know, these got wiped out. We need a little bit more space to at least get two more holes in, you know, what uh how can we how can we work around this? But at the moment everything's pretty much up in the air.
SPEAKER_01I mean, obviously there's links throughout Facebook and such, but you just go to like GoFundMe and look for Stony Kill, is there a specific name to look for?
SPEAKER_06I can provide a link.
SPEAKER_05I believe it's called support Stony Kills Recovery from Storm Damage.
SPEAKER_06That sounds about right.
SPEAKER_05Yeah, if you actually if you go to Go and Fund Me and search Stony Kill, it's the top result. Cool. Hope this is not a new thing.
SPEAKER_06Every three, four years, some big crazy thing happens to destroy a course, but knock on wood, this specific area got hit mostly because they built the police barracks there, and now all all these trees that grew up not really exposed to wind got exposed to wind, you know, heavy winds and such, so they weren't really grown in expectation of having to withstand that sort of stress. So, you know, knock on wood, the biggest damage was in an area that isn't gonna that you know we don't expect to see in other places, but um, no guarantees.
SPEAKER_05Did you say the town was getting a logging company to clear out that whole one area? So I guess you kind of got to see. Well, I guess two things. One, when is that gonna happen? And two, what is it gonna look like after they're done? Like they might absolutely just clean that entire area up, or they might just kind of be more selective about it, I guess.
SPEAKER_06Yeah, I don't I don't know exactly what the what the setup is. They've been out there, the logging company, so I I have to assume they're in progress in the near future, but I don't know what the what their progress looks like.
SPEAKER_01I know it's early on, and you might not even have thought of this, but any thoughts on how this could affect the scramble?
SPEAKER_06It's certainly been a thought, you know, knock on wood. I'm hoping that everything will be at least somewhat cleaned up by the time the scramble rolls around. You know, we've got three months or or not not quite three months, but it's certainly a thought in my mind. But uh I'm thinking, I'm hoping that, you know, if we have to play, you know, three through eighteen plus fourteen B and C like we did that one year, that's all doable.
SPEAKER_01That course gets used mostly from the scramble on, because then you've got two team challenge teams on it. Right. So maybe a month or two earlier, but this is a a decent time for it to happen. You've got time to figure stuff out. I mean, obviously you'd never want that kind of thing to happen anyway, but you know, yeah, just take taking an optimistic look at things like I always do.
SPEAKER_06I'm so cheerful. We're not running a semi-major event every other week for you know several months. So yeah, it's it's I mean, it really messes up with dubs, but you know, what are you gonna do? Just funnels everybody over to okay. That's the uh that's the the grand plan.
SPEAKER_04Alex, should we be concerned that you knocked all the trees down in order to get more traffic to okay DGC? Yeah, where were you the Saturday night or whatever day?
SPEAKER_06Uh I was watching the World Cup.
SPEAKER_03You said 10 feet off the ground. I think you could probably do that. That's what I'm thinking. He's the only guy who could do it.
SPEAKER_07Yeah, right.
SPEAKER_03The picture of the radar that J Grossage shared was just insane. It's like Mother Nature just has it out for Stony Kill, unfortunately.
SPEAKER_01Kinderhook too. Even looking at this, like if you look at the top one, it looks like it was kind of on the fringe.
SPEAKER_06Yeah, yeah. Luckily, we didn't get hit too bad. The the course itself is pretty much intact.
SkipAce Update
SPEAKER_01Nice. All right, Corey, do you want to talk about the new proposed rules, Summer Battle Royale, Skip Ace, or the Bourbine Fleck?
SPEAKER_05There is kind of a lot of rules in there, but that might take a couple of days to go through.
SPEAKER_01I mean, we could also wait for Jamin. He's he's a few.
SPEAKER_05Yeah, that's what I was gonna say, too.
SPEAKER_01Okay.
SPEAKER_05But let's knock out uh Summer Battle Royale.
SPEAKER_01Well, Jamin also had a match there, too.
SPEAKER_05Oh shit, you're right. All right, let's uh let's do uh Bourbine Flex.
SPEAKER_01I did offer that as an option, so that's kind of on me. But in my defense, I had initially wrote that question for Jamin because he hadn't been here in a bit, so I was gonna give him the first opportunity. So Burbine Flex, you say?
SPEAKER_05Yeah, I I only heard three options, right?
SPEAKER_01I'll give you four, I think. Uh summer battle royale, skip base, burbine flex proposed rule.
SPEAKER_05Oh yeah, let's do skip base.
SPEAKER_01Yeah, skip ace is something that we could actually just knock out.
SPEAKER_05Yeah, we have two events.
SPEAKER_01I think so.
SPEAKER_05And another one this week.
SPEAKER_01Yeah, there's the Heini Oli open or whatever.
SPEAKER_04I can't even correct you on that one.
SPEAKER_01I yeah, I don't I know I know how that's a lot of vowels. I know so did we do the DGPT plus Northwest Championship?
SPEAKER_04I've got to if Cap beat me in it, I we gotta skip it.
SPEAKER_06I think we did because we talked about me being last.
SPEAKER_01Corey won it, right?
SPEAKER_03I won that one. Yeah, yeah, we double. So we did talk about that one. Randy, if we follow that, we're just gonna skip them all though, right? Like only half of them now. Oh, okay, good. Good for you.
SPEAKER_05I don't think we did European Open looking at looking at the standings right now.
SPEAKER_01The 2026 PDGA European Open. Looks like we had 27 people picking for that with uh Sparky Spaulding in 27th. Sorry, Sparky Spaulding. Highland Mike Warner in 26th, and I am in 25th. Everybody above that is much better than me. Blue Jay Disc golf store, Maximilian Pegasus, Brian Heller, 22nd, Randy, 21st.
SPEAKER_02Whoa.
SPEAKER_01I definitely said your name before your wife's name. So maybe we did this one before. I'm not sure.
SPEAKER_04That's trending.
SPEAKER_01Mike Schwartz in 20th. We still don't know who Joe C is. Justin Hickok. Kat Beam is 16th place, just ahead of ConCon. I feel weird not saying some when I say most of them. Evan, 15th place.
SPEAKER_03Yeah, shout out to Rico for one point. Oh.
SPEAKER_05Rico Suave Suago.
SPEAKER_03I think Rico slotted into my this is how many points I have left spot.
SPEAKER_05Is that actually Rico Suave? It was just really it was always spelled really weird.
SPEAKER_01That's the European version of spelling of uh Suave. Tie for 13th between Bickersmith and Corey Cook. Oh. You guys are like always intertwined somehow. Tucker Rule's in 12th. Ivan Ivan Marmoda Marmida in 11th. The correspondent in top 10, Joe. Stubbs is in ninth. AMP Alex Potts in eighth. That's the first Alex Potts I've seen, so that's good. Maybe we scared him away. Brandon Klein, lefty flick, top five. Jamin Hume, he's been in the top five or ten pretty often. Devin Lamke in fourth, Billy Buckner in third. The real Alex Potts in second place with 1,220 points. And your winner with 1,289 points, Rob Weest of the Mississippi. How's that feel, Corey? Where were you? You gotta scroll 13?
SPEAKER_05I'd say 200 points or something like that. He got me there.
SPEAKER_01More than 200, actually. Yeah.
SPEAKER_05And we got a nickel and dye, man. We could just wrap it.
SPEAKER_01Well, I mean, 213 is 213. Yeah. You know, if you shot a thousand rated round or a thousand thirteen rated round, are you gonna say, hey, I shot a thousand, or are you gonna say I shot a thousand thirteen?
SPEAKER_05I'm gonna say ten fifteen, actually.
SPEAKER_01I was gonna say, you'll say I shot over ten I I shot over a thousand ten, you know. So congratulations, Rob. Weast of the Mississippi. Calvin Heimberg. I've been avoiding saying a lot of these names, uh, because yeah, it could just be silly. But uh, so that was the 2026 PDGA European Open. We then we had the Swedish Open presented by Castaplatz. So a lot of was that Berg's? It's Berggs. Yeah, Burgs, a lot of Bergs being thrown around. Is it 28 pickers this time? Leighton Scott. That's a new one, right?
SPEAKER_05I think we convinced him to make picks. Now we'll see if he made picks in the next event, too. But yeah.
SPEAKER_01Jamin Hume in 27th. Wow, that's the first time he's had a bad week. He had Vino Makala, Daniel Davidson, Culver Dallin, Kat Merch, Calvin Heinberg, and Missy Gannon. That's why he didn't do well because I could pronounce all of those. Kenji in 26th, the real Alex Potts in 25th, Brandon Klein, 24th, Randy Bow Bandy, 23rd. Still haven't said cats this time. Yeah. Not to point it out every damn time, Keenan, but you know. Um Tucker Rules in 22nd. Stubbs tied with Rob Wees in Mississippi. Okay, Corey, so you can gain some ground on him here.
SPEAKER_05Yeah, see how much.
SPEAKER_01Yeah, Kat Bamus in 19th, Bickersmith 18th, Schwartz, Blue J Disc golf store, Bill Buckner, Lefty Flick, the correspondent in 12th. He was in 10th last time, not too bad. Highland Mike Warner in 12th. Ryan Travis 148, 343 in 11th. Corey got top 10. 1203 to his 1130. So something. When you're ahead, you you counted every point.
SPEAKER_05Every point matters when I'm when I'm getting a bag.
SPEAKER_01Uh still and top 10. Uh Evan Parsley, 9th place, behind Maximilian Pegasus, Alex Potts in seventh. What were you last time, Alex? Like up there, right? Eighth. So yeah. Uh Brian Heller in sixth. Joe C in fifth. Sparky Spaulding in fourth. A tie for second. I was in second place with Ivan Yvonne Marmota Marmida. Nice. The last few weeks I've been doing my strategy of picking anybody with a flame by them. And then if I had points left over, I would pick like a Gannon Burr. This time I had enough points I could pick Ganon Burr and Ricky Waisaki because everybody else.
SPEAKER_05Dude, you actually you copied his ass.
SPEAKER_03You and Ivan have the same picks for the same total. That's wild.
SPEAKER_05Dude, they had no, they had the same players.
SPEAKER_03I mean, the same people, the same picks, the same people, two of which I can't pronounce.
SPEAKER_01I bet he did what I did. Because you heard me mention about the flames. The flames work, man, especially in these European tournaments when you don't know anybody. They might not be as good, but they know the course. That's my thought. But beating us by both by two points, we had Concon.
SPEAKER_05That was a crazy week. And you almost didn't want to say that guy's name last time. And then look at this. Now you force you to.
SPEAKER_01Who's that? CONCON?
SPEAKER_05ConCon, yeah.
SPEAKER_01CONCON. But yeah, so that was the Swedish Open presented by Castoplast. Let's take a look at the overall. Oh, and uh, did we do the Ale? Did that already happen?
SPEAKER_05No, that one just happened this past weekend.
SPEAKER_01Oh, but it so we do have okay, so yeah. It's one to cover. 29 pickers, Ivan Yvonne from 2nd to 29th. Alex Potts. What happened there? Uh I can pronounce them all. That's your problem. Joseph Anderson in the uh Ale Open. Come on now, Alex. You can't have no. Maximilian Pegasus, Brian Heller, Joe C, Highland McWarner, the correspondent in 23rd. He's he's dropping. Uh-oh. Uh-oh. Kathleen Beamis in 22nd. And I had not said Randy's name this time. Okay. Uh Schwartz in 21st. Devin Lamke, Evan Parsley. Then Randy. All right. 20 points.
SPEAKER_04Big 20 point lead.
SPEAKER_0120 points. All right. Uh Jason Lasasso in 17th. Tim Goyet in 16th. 15th place. We finally break a thousand with Jamin in 1,006. Bickersmith in 14th. Concon in 13th. Jakey Huey in 12th. So he made his first picks. Yep. And I haven't said my name, so I beat him. So you're 0 for 1 there, Jakey Huey. Brandon Klein in 11th. Top 10. Rob Weast of the Mississippi. Sparky Spaulding. Blue Jay Disc golf store. Then me in seventh place. Again. Although most of these I can pronounce. But uh I still definitely use that strategy. But I was able to pick Ricky and Gannon again. So uh Lefty Flick 21 and 6th, Stubbs in fifth, Ryan Travis 1.8 343 and 4th. Corey Cook, third place. Yeah. So two of the three you beat Rob, right?
SPEAKER_05Yeah, yeah.
SPEAKER_011073 to 1179. So what's that? 106?
SPEAKER_05Yeah, I'll say 100. We'll say 100th time.
SPEAKER_01All right. Uh Tucker rules in second, and Billy Buckner is your winner for the week. Yep. Can't pronounce half of those names. Oh, we've t that we named we've said that. Nailed it. Yeah. Yeah. All right. And quick look at the overall standings. We've got 41 pickers. Let's see where Jakey Huey in 38th out of those 41 after one week. Jason in 35th. I did see his name at least once in the last few weeks. Tim, 32nd, same. Ryan, I don't remember saying his name a bunch. Petat Jeffries. Highland Mike Warner. Devin Lamke. Brandon Klein. I'm in 24th ahead of Brandon Klein, so we're going to end the season right now. I got him by one point in the non-bolted numbers, which I guess the important ones. Kenji in 23rd overall. Alex 22nd. We got the initial boys. 22nd Alex at AMP and EMP in 21st. And Joe, uh the correspondent in 20th. Blue J Disco store. Maximilian Pegasus in 18th. Tucker Rules in 17th. Ryan Travis 148 343. Randon Beamis, 15th place. How many points? Oh, it's tight.
SPEAKER_04It's close.
SPEAKER_01He only got Stubbs in between in 14th. And then Kat Bemis, 13th place. Sparky's falling in 12th. Josie in 11th. Top 10 for the season. Rob Weest the Mississippi. I have not said Corey's name yet. Jamin with one clunker is still in ninth place. Concon in 8th, Schwartz in 7th. Billy Buckner in 6th. Top five, we got Bickersmith, 40 points behind Corey Cook in fourth place. Brian Heller in third. Ivan Ivan Marmota Marmida in second, and Lefty Flick 21 in first place. While it's great for Lefty Flick 21, hasn't this been a whole season to get past Rob? Or no, Corey. At least as far as our updates. It seems like you've been trailing them most of the season, no?
SPEAKER_05Yeah, I think what must have happened is once we well no, we've done a ton of events. Yeah, I don't know. I probably I probably passed them in like within the past month or so.
SPEAKER_01And we since we haven't done picks or we haven't you know talked about them. Yeah. Probably in the last since we did the last three.
SPEAKER_05I think the last update, maybe I was still ahead of him, but barely. Or I was just behind him. It was close.
SPEAKER_01Yeah. Rob Weeson of Mississippi in 19th. He's picks most times, right? He's pretty consistent and usually a little better than that, I thought.
SPEAKER_05Yeah, I think it's the the drop total. I mean, by now we've had nine events, and what do we dropped two of them?
SPEAKER_01Yeah.
SPEAKER_05So seven, yeah, and you might have had a couple shitters in there.
SPEAKER_01Justin Hickcock in 10th, Corey in 9th. That's uh you well, you started out really bad, right?
SPEAKER_05I was in the 20s and 30s. Yeah, I missed a week or two.
SPEAKER_01Yeah, you missed the very first week for sure, and maybe the second one. So you already had your zeros, like kind of Oh, yeah.
SPEAKER_05I forgot the first week. I was already about to call it quits because I was pissed off that my picks didn't save.
SPEAKER_01Yeah, you put them in, yeah. Still pretty close.
SPEAKER_05Just a couple hundred points.
SPEAKER_01So the next event we got coming up is the Heinola Open. Heinola Open closes in three days. So if you haven't gotten your picks in, probably too late if you're hearing this, but you guys can still get your picks in. My strategy is still the same. I got Calvin and Ricky and four people I can't pronounce. All right, so that is Skip
DisCap Flex series 2026 4 of 6 (CEP Charity - Rated)
SPEAKER_01Ace. So we got the Discap Flex Series 2026, four of six CEP charity rated. This is in Charleston, New York. That is Bourbine, right? Correct. Tournament director Mike Schwartz. It was a cloudy day with temperatures around 75.52 degrees Fahrenheit with 5.39 miles per hour of wind.
SPEAKER_05Yeah, I'm just gonna cut you off right there, Pat. That shit is a lie. It was hot as balls out there.
SPEAKER_01All right, he must have figured that temperature out at like 6 a.m. when the first group went out. 73 players, MA3, Andrew Chamberlain tied with Lenny Rabune. They both shot plus two. Todd Lorenz was in third at plus three. Krista Kovac won the FA2 Women's Amateur 2 Division. Evan, you played the MA2 mixed amateur two division. How'd that go?
SPEAKER_03You've mentioned first card out, which is interesting because I thought when I signed up for tea time, I was the first card out. But apparently there was some kind of like secret cool kid card that got out ahead of us. I'm not sure. Maybe Corey knows what happened there.
SPEAKER_05Yeah, I forgot what happened there.
SPEAKER_03I don't know. I thought Tib said you like talk Schwartz into it in like dubs or something.
SPEAKER_05No, there was a few spots left open in the registration. There was no one playing an MPO, and I had nothing else going on Friday, so I like tried to bully some disc captains into signing up. And I got Gorsage and Troy. And I think we were on a later tea time. But then we also got Column and Column Grant and uh yeah, I don't know, somehow we the four of us got to get a different tea time together. So we We got the 1120 T time, I think. You were your 1130?
SPEAKER_03Yeah, we were 1130. I was on a mixed group. I got to play with Lisa L and Marcia and Rob Pupkey. They were all playing on the, I guess what you'd call the modified layout. So it was Blue T's, except they played red on seven, ten, fifteen, and sixteen. So seven is the beast of bourbon, right? Ten's over the pond, and then fifteen, sixteen, a couple of the longer ones on the back. Great card. Absolutely pleasure to play with all three of them. I played with Rob last year at the same event, which he reminded me. What's the hole in the back that's like a left to right? Probably like 300 feet, 13 or something. Uh 12. 12. 12, yeah. He reminded me of what a great shot I had last year. He said he was talking about it after the tournament for weeks. So I appreciated that. Not much to say about my round. Got a couple birdies, got one early on two. Felt good early, and then just kind of lost my timing. Kind of the start of my weekend struggles. Got another birdie on eight, but came in at 14 over, missed my rating by almost 30 points. So not much to speak of golf-wise. It was certainly hot, but again, playing with them was a great pleasure. I don't think I've ever actually been on card with Marcia, and anybody who's played with her knows how much fun that was. So good times out in the woods of Charleston, New York.
SPEAKER_01It looks like Patrick Jeffries and Dan Perry tied for second, and Benji Ferrell is your winner. Highland Mike Warner and Brandon Klein came in fourth. Peter Fitzisti and Ryan Travis 14343 tied for sixth. Marcia Focht won the uh FA 60 Women's Amateur 60 division by one stroke over Sherry Fish. John Furman and Jim Burns tied MA60, beat Peter Cornish by a stroke. Carleta Darling won FA 50, Women's Amateur 50. Robert Virginia won MA 50, beat Brian Dubois and Jakey Huey. Lisa Lundquist won the FA 40, Women's Amateur 40 division. Terry Hudson won MA 40, beat Christopher Wilson. Alexis White won FA1, Women's Amateur 1. Josh Lee shot under par to win MA1. Derek Walker came in second. Matt Sharp in third. Danny White and Greg Kurtz tied for the MP60 division win. Jeff Darling beat Ron Tyre for MP50. Michael Thomas won MP40. Amber Stout won FPO. What about the MPO division, Corey?
SPEAKER_05Yeah, and then like I said, I played at the early tea time with Troy Visseri, uh Jay Gorsage, myself, and Colin Grant. All of us except for Colum were playing open when a few days prior to me signing up, there was no one playing open. I'm not familiar with him, but I've seen his name around John Meshit or Meshu, or do you any of you guys know that guy? Oh, he's no, actually he's a CNY or ish on the Anta, never mind. He also signed up after us. So now we had like a four-person division, which was awesome. My play was garbage. I I went through the first eight holes without getting a single birdie. It was pretty hot. I don't remember what the temperature actually got to. It had to, I think it was another 90-degree day, right?
SPEAKER_0175.52.
SPEAKER_05When it gets this humid and hot, I I'm not a hot weather player. I'd rather play in 40 degree weather, but I think the putting isn't the worst for me because my fingers almost get they get sweaty, but then they get kind of too grippy, and then my grippy plastic, and I'm constantly trying to like compensate for how much grip I do think I have, and then probably defeats the confidence the most. But finally get to hole nine and got a good birdie. And then at this point, I think I was two over, and Troy was playing pretty decent, leading the field. Coming through the back nine, I was able to reduce the number of bogeys, pick up a couple birdies, hit a big like 80-footer on hole 13 for birdie. So we get to 17, I park it. Troy takes a bogey. Now we're one stroke apart from each other. He's two down, I'm one down, and we're going to hole 18. And you know, knowing there's no playoffs, kind of a big hole. He was short off the T, I got a little bit longer, but I still had probably 60 feet to the basket. He approached the basket as good as he could and put it to like 15, 20 feet, and I banded my jump putt to force the tie, assuming he makes his 20-foot comeback or which he did because he's good for it. So Troy finished at two down, I finished at one down. John Meshit was still out there playing. We hung out in the parking lot afterwards and kind of hung out with Schwartz and other people that were coming up the course. I think John was like three down or yeah, yeah, three down coming into his last hole. We basically thought he won it, and then I I don't know what happened, but he ends up double bogeying hole 18 to finish at one down and tied for second with me.
SPEAKER_01Oh my. And as Corey mentioned, Troy Veseri won the MPO division. One of these days I'll get that.
SPEAKER_03Just remember it rhymes with scary because he's not. I don't know.
SPEAKER_04He doesn't really rhyme with Vasari, scary, Terry. Yeah, but that's because you say scary with an accent.
SPEAKER_03I have no accent. How dare you? Skoharry county? Yeah, yeah.
SPEAKER_05Visery from Skahari.
SPEAKER_01Yeah, okay. That might help more than Evan's silliness. No, I'm teasing. Some might thought about I thought we should be doing something like this. What about rating the tournament? Like from your perspective. What are your thoughts on that?
SPEAKER_05Uh I I will say it's gonna be really hard to rate something low.
SPEAKER_01Well, here's the thing. Jason posted the thing about mind kill. I don't like the number system with ratings. I remember working back way back in the day. I was working at like GameStop when it first opened up. And they're like, you gotta get have people rate your shit, and it's gotta if it's not five, then you failed. And it's like, well, what the fuck kind of rating system is that?
SPEAKER_05Yeah.
SPEAKER_01What if we did it based on like disc golf? Like if you got exactly what I expected from a tournament of this tier, you know, there can be some improvements, but it doesn't need to. You give it's a par.
SPEAKER_05Oh yeah, yeah. I like that.
SPEAKER_01And when I say par, it's gonna be different. Like a flex, you're not looking for the same things that you'd be looking for at even a C tier. At a C tier, you would expect like a ring of fire, maybe, or a field of throwing, just something else. But if it's an A tier, you would expect like even more than what you would expect at a B or a C tier. Like if you rate it each from your perspective, based on its tier, but also I don't think weather should affect it.
SPEAKER_05No.
SPEAKER_01Like the course itself, I don't think should affect it, but if it's got bad signage or anything else that's in the TD's control, that can affect. I don't know. Thoughts on that?
SPEAKER_05Yeah, I mean, I uh based on that, I would I would give it a par. I mean, it was a lot of people. Um there wasn't a single issue that I know of. At the very least, there was also he put water out on hole 10, which I thought it was gonna be a water's gonna be a problem, anyways, and because you literally don't come back to your car at any point during that round, and even your car is not where hole 18 is. So I rucked two full water bottles and I didn't take any water because I you know someone else might not have brought water with enough water with them, but there was a water jug sitting there by the bench at hole 10. So after you got through all your water to the front nine holes, you could fill back up, which on a day like that is huge.
SPEAKER_03Yeah, especially on a day like that. Like you said, uh full water bottle, and then I had an unopened power rate that I kind of shared among the card until we got to 10, because it was super humid, and I'm like, Corey, I'm not built for that humidity when the dew point gets that high. I'm just not very happy.
SPEAKER_05I mean, it was so humid, like the rubber tea pads on not that this affects the rating because we've said it's outside of TV control, but the rubber tee pads are used at that course, like they were just moist, they're a little slippery.
SPEAKER_01So, what would your rating be, Evan?
SPEAKER_03Solid par with a great chance at Birdie. I think I think the water was just really nice for the conditions, but you know, if you're not gonna weigh weather in too much, it was awesome. You know, exactly what I want in a flex, smoothly run. And again, I had a great card. That's maybe out of Mike's control too, but I I had a great time, great tournament.
SPEAKER_01Well, that's the other thing. It it doesn't have to be just par bird, it could be like par plus, you know, there could be a plus and minus system, like par plus one. I don't know. This is just a test run. I I think it's a good idea, just because my goal, it's never been to shit on people, but you also want to like say, hey, this give might give people like, oh, this is a tournament I might want to go to in the future, you know. That was my thought on it. Definitely. For example, like if we were to rate uh and then now this is like a month later or whatever, actually it's like exactly a month later, but like if we were to rate something like Mine Kill, the A tier, especially, I wasn't at the other one, but like they did a bunch of extra shit. Like there were three or four times where you guys were like, I didn't expect that. Like you guys didn't expect food at the end.
SPEAKER_02Yeah.
SPEAKER_01A lot of people didn't expect like the trivia, or uh, didn't you say there was pizza after the final round sunrise? Yeah, and it was there was three or four times where you guys were like, I was not expecting that. So that one, you you know, they went above and beyond. Maybe that's an eagle, you know, or a or a birdie, you know. I'm I'm just throwing out other disc call albatross. Who's getting an albatross?
SPEAKER_03You know? Mikey Lamsa gets a solid birdie for me if we're doing retroactive.
SPEAKER_01Yeah, so there you go. And he's really not just blowing smoke up your ass, Randy.
SPEAKER_03I'll take it either way. Oh, that was you, Randy. Good job. No, that's that was true. That was a great time.
SPEAKER_01Yeah.
SPEAKER_03Even though you had no control of the weather, that helped.
SPEAKER_01I don't know. Just something we could try out for uh
Alex's Fútbol Minute
SPEAKER_01for future. Alex, you want to hit us with a uh football minute?
SPEAKER_06That's something of an in-progress thing that's going on right now. Because we've got the USA versus Belgium.
SPEAKER_01Down run nothing.
SPEAKER_06Yeah, down run nothing, unfortunately. But um a lot of golf uh yeah, a lot of golf left. A lot of golf left. A lot of flopping left. A lot of flopping left, a lot of uh soccer left to play.
SPEAKER_05Wait, I heard something, as someone has not been watching or that interested. I heard there's been some controversy with delaying games to get to penalty kicks or however that is.
SPEAKER_06Delaying games to get to penalty kicks?
SPEAKER_05How does it work in soccer if you get to like overtime or whatever?
SPEAKER_06Yeah, so all these games are are best of one, so you need a winner. You play your 90 minutes, that's the typical game, two 45-minute halves plus stoppage time. Then if you're tied at the end of that, you go to two 15-minute periods. It's not like sudden death. It's whoever's, you know, leading at the end of half an hour. And if you're still tied, then you go to penalty kicks. So a lot of teams tend to be pretty cautious in that last half hour because you don't want to give up something stupid and lose off of one stupid play. So people just kind of go to penalty kicks. A lot of fans don't like that because penalty kicks are such a a crapshoot. You know, anything can happen. People would much rather see a game decided by actual soccer being played. So yeah, fans are not a huge fan of that, but it ends up happening, you know, you're tired at the end of an hour and a half of running. So people tend to be pretty cautious in that in that last bit.
SPEAKER_01So if you finish a tide after 90, whatever they made up minutes. Sure.
SPEAKER_06Yep.
SPEAKER_01So if in the first 15 minutes I my team scores a goal, you still would play that second half. Correct. Yeah. Okay.
SPEAKER_06It's effectively uh a water break, which is a a whole nother um, a whole nother controversy in itself. But um but yeah, uh you play the full half hour no matter what. It's just you get a a quick little break at at the 15 minute mark because you've already played, you know, 90 minutes and you're probably exhausted.
SPEAKER_01Yeah. So as far as the US thing, in your opinion, because you know a lot more about it than I do, did that guy deserve a red card? Personally, I think no. Okay. To go back a little bit.
SPEAKER_06It was a play where the US player effectively landed with their cleats on the ankle of the defending player, which is a super dangerous thing to do. If it's intentional, it's a hundred percent a red card. If you land on somebody's ankle like that, you could be, you know, taking them out for a season, uh, like ending somebody's career if you land on them in the wrong way, which is why it's it's so strictly monitored, is because it's just so dangerous to be, you know, with the the full weight of a person on an ankle with, you know, spikes of a cleat and all that. But in the US case, it was uh Balogun was the was the player. Clearly, there was no intent behind it. He was not looking at the defender, he was looking at the ball, and the defender like shifted his foot in such a way that it kind of put his ankle underneath Balogun's foot. Like there was no malice behind it, nothing, nothing there. The ref didn't call anything. It was the video assist referee that came back and said, Hey, you know, this was a dangerous thing, you might have to call something here. So he ends up with a red card. Like, I understand why it happened. I don't think it's a red card, but I'm also still pretty new at this sort of thing. Very few people thought it was a red card at the time, but you know, as sometimes you get an awkward ref call, it happens. The unfortunate thing that comes along with that is if you get a straight red card, you get sent off for the rest of the game. So the US is playing with 10 players as opposed to the other team's 11 players for the last half hour of the game or whatever it was. And Balogun is suspended for the next game, which is obviously massive when you're talking about, you know, one game series. Any advantage that you get when we've got one of our star players out is pretty significant. So it was a really unfortunate turn of events for the US. A couple of days ago, the White House calls FIFA, which is the organizer behind the World Cup, and ends up getting the game he was supposed to be off for for the red card, gets that suspended to next year, which is it's not a hundred percent unprecedented, but it's really not common.
SPEAKER_01Did the US have a chance to petition for them to review it after the fact?
SPEAKER_06I think there is a mechanism by which which that happens, but it generally takes longer than the week that we would have had between games. And I don't think it's ever been done before. Like I I think you can appeal, but I don't think they've ever reversed an appeal uh reversed something based on an appeal like that. So technically, yes, but in in practice, no.
SPEAKER_01I've have seen similar instances like this in other sports while I've seen it where it's like, oh, you're you're gonna serve your suspension at the beginning of next year, as opposed to you know the playoff game or what have you. It has happened in the past. So, okay. Well, they just had a a hydration break, so down one.
SPEAKER_06Yeah, a lot of soccer still left to play. Anything can happen. You know, last night was a wildly entertaining game between England and Mexico. There are five goals, two penalties, a red card, a whole bunch of yellow cards. Like, like it was a really entertaining game to watch as someone who didn't really have a stake in the game. But yeah, no, it's it's it's uh it's really anything can happen. And you know, it's a it's a long time to be to be playing soccer.
SPEAKER_01Absolutely. And the US does not look like Waldo tonight.
SPEAKER_06Yeah. The US was supposed to be wearing the Waldo uniforms, but um, they had played this matchup, Belgium versus USA, with the US in their Waldo uniforms and Belgium in these like pink and blue ones, and it was impossible to tell who was who. Like they had done it in a friendly a couple months ago. Yeah, they specifically set this up so that uh the US would be wearing the darker colors.
SPEAKER_01Oh, that's cool. Because we are the villain. Um, of course. All right. Um, any other soccer comments from anybody? All right.
JPark Layout Poll
SPEAKER_01We were talking last week about the best J Park layout, and I did a poll on the Facebook page. I thought we could quickly go over the results of that. Now I put in as the options J27, J North, South, East, West, and J36. I think I put J36, somebody might have added that up, but I think I did. Corey, is that proper? Is that the the right layouts? Did I miss any?
SPEAKER_05Yeah, I I think so. That's what I would have used.
SPEAKER_01Okay, well, I want to get your guys' opinion. So, based on the polling, which is definitive, we had in last place with 1% of the vote, zero votes. I don't know how that got 1%. J East, do you agree?
SPEAKER_03Surprising. Yeah, also surprised. I mean, it's but it if everybody just had to pick one and not like rank them per se, you know what I mean? It might have come out differently. So I don't know. Yeah, true.
SPEAKER_01It could be a lot of people's number two.
SPEAKER_03Right, right. I wouldn't have picked it as my number one, but I also wouldn't put it at last. So I I kind of get it.
SPEAKER_06All right.
SPEAKER_03Next up, it with oh, go ahead.
SPEAKER_06I was clicking away trying to find this uh this poll and uh USI scored. Oh, hey. Do it again. Ole, ole, ole, oley. I know, right? I I I think it was a penalty even. Fucking hell. All right. Uh well, that's good. You sound uh you sound upset. Fucking hell. It that's fucking hell. I'm I'm I'm happy we scored. I just missed everything about it, and I wish I had seen it.
SPEAKER_01If only we lived in the age of rewind, 30 seconds.
SPEAKER_06Right. It was not a penalty kick. It was a a set piece, a direct shot that uh looks like I got deflected by a Belgian player, but um, but it was a really good shot. So that's awesome.
SPEAKER_01I'm watching the replay. If that goes off, yeah, dude's head. So is that an own goal or no?
SPEAKER_06So the way they measure that is if it was in the direction of the goal, like if it would have gone in without the defender touching it, they count it as the person who shot it. If it wouldn't have gone in, it counts as an own goal. So they'll they'll give that to the the shooter on that one for sure.
SPEAKER_01If he was kicking from the side and it ricocheted off his head and directly went right towards the net, that would be different. I guess kind of like that guy's when when he kicked it off that guy's foot in like the first match that they played.
SPEAKER_06Yeah, yeah.
SPEAKER_01Or second match, I don't know.
SPEAKER_06Yeah, exactly. The first goal we scored this World Cup. Yep.
SPEAKER_01All right, so Estados Unidos tied it up. I have it on mute, so it doesn't matter what channel I have it. I have it on the Telemundo. Um, with 3% of the vote, we had Jay West, Bobby Hallam, voted for Ja West.
SPEAKER_06I do like Jay West. If if I'm gonna play 18, 90% of the time I'm gonna want to play Jay West.
SPEAKER_04Jay West is my number one layout by like number of plays for sure.
SPEAKER_03It's probably my most play because when I was newer I played it a lot because it was it felt more approachable and less scary. So I love Jay West, but probably wouldn't be my top one or two anymore.
SPEAKER_01Which is the one that you stay basically on the parking lot side?
SPEAKER_03The OG layout, that's Jay West, yeah. That's West.
SPEAKER_01Okay, okay, so yeah, I can I can see that.
SPEAKER_03It only goes across the street for 14, 18, and ITB, right? Yeah.
SPEAKER_01Yep. All right, then next up with 8%, two votes, Will Byrne and Adam Dahl. We got J36.
SPEAKER_03It's crazy.
SPEAKER_05Has Will Byrne played J36 before? Probably not.
SPEAKER_03Didn't we do a couple years ago, maybe it was a flex where we played J36 and they got an exemption to let us take a lunch break or and to let other cards play through if you wanted, because it was such a special thing. Yep. Yeah, I mean that was kind of a bucket list. Like that was cool to do, but yeah, that's an ass kicker.
SPEAKER_01So yeah, J36, that was fourth place, third place with 14% of the votes, got Tucker Kozloski, Mike Schwartz, Cody Canine, and Aaron Holpey picked Jay South.
SPEAKER_05If we were only picking 18 whole layouts, that would have been my pick. Yeah, solid pick.
SPEAKER_01Well, it was second place of the 18 hole layouts, first place in the 18 hole layouts, second place overall had 19%. One extra vote. We got Greg Kurtz, Jack Fructor, Marcia Fox, Ryan Nelson, and Jay Gorsage.
SPEAKER_05Jay Norris.
SPEAKER_01So we know who the um the masochists in the uh of the listening base is.
SPEAKER_05All right. Also, I'm not sure if he still has them, but Jason Gorsage got I love or I heart Jay Norris patches made to fund like P pad saying stuff. So I don't know if he still has any, but maybe once once he hears this and you make the post, he could comment on it.
SPEAKER_03Shout out Tim Goyette for buying one for me.
SPEAKER_06I do not heart Jay North. I was gonna say there's four people there who might want it.
SPEAKER_03I heart it now. It used to, you know, seem like too daunting, but it's uh also I don't know if he voted Pat Jeffery's favorite layout. He's a Woods guy. Jay North is awesome. It's great, perfect. No notes.
SPEAKER_01I think he did vote. Good. Because the fur in first place was 55%. I actually voted for this one. I voted uh Kyle Hirsch, Jess Lasasso, Eric Heinel, John Vermilia, Kat Bemis, Randy Beamis, Peter Hodge, Corey Cook, Joe Karen, Evan Parsley, Tim Goyette, Red Herring, Jacob the Butler Bethel, and Petatat James. 15 votes all voted for J27.
SPEAKER_03I think J Huey said it last episode I wasn't here, but you know, if you're gonna go to Jay and you have time, you know, especially if you're driving a little ways, you definitely want to play 27. You're gonna see so much of the course, it's a like a really nice amount of holes to play without being too overwhelming. 27 is awesome. That's why we did it uh Saturday for independence discs, right?
SPEAKER_05Yeah. The thing is, like for most people, if you're gonna if you're driving to J Park, you're probably already driving 40 to 60, 75 minutes. And I'm of the accord that if I'm if I'm going anywhere, I need to spend at least as much time there as I am in the car to get there. Exactly. Round trip. So I mean 18 hole layout, if you're not playing J North, that might only take you and your buddy hour and 20 to play. And then afterwards, like, oh, we could have played nine more holes, but like, do you really want to play the same layout again? Could have just played J27.
SPEAKER_01Exactly. All right. That's cool. Anytime people actually vote, yeah, close to 30 votes, which is awesome.
PDGA Proposed Rule Changes for 2027
SPEAKER_01I know Jam is not here yet, but we should really get into some of these rules. At least go over one or two of them. Yeah. Like I said, we do have next week as well. Mike Schwartz sent me a link to the staggered stance podcast last week. He sent it on Spotify. I don't I don't use Spotify, but I did find it. Did anybody here listen to that?
SPEAKER_05I read through the all the proposed changes. Okay. Yeah, I didn't listen, but I skimmed it.
SPEAKER_01They went over specific ones based on the way they were talking, they had a whole different document than this rules change document. So I was kind of confused. I'm not great with rules to begin with, as far as like I can read a rule and be like, okay, don't do that kind of thing. But you guys have better like peripheral thoughts as far as like how changing one thing can affect other things, uh which is something I'm not good at. The public comments close on July 23rd. So if we could still talk about it this week and a little next week, so we don't have to do everything tonight.
SPEAKER_07Yeah.
SPEAKER_01And that'll still give anybody who's listening here if that affects the if they're gonna comment or not. But that was my thought on that. So it says there's five major changes to the official rules of disc golf. Is there any particular spot you want to start with?
SPEAKER_05I just go top to bottom.
SPEAKER_01Okay. So our first change is uh the ORDG, so that's the official rules of disc golf, I assume, has stance rules in three places. All stance rules should be in a single place so players can refer to them more easily. The language of the stance rules should be as simple to understand as we can make them. This will render the definition of putting area in 806.01 unnecessary. We can preserve existing citations by instead using 806.01 to define the term inbounds. This creates changes across eight oh six's various regulated areas.
SPEAKER_05Yeah, that's kind of just seems like a verbiage clarification. Yeah.
SPEAKER_01Does that make sense to you?
SPEAKER_05Yeah, I they're just kind of changing words around to make it a little bit more clear, not trying to hit word counts on rule definition.
SPEAKER_06I think that's not a rule change. It's a remove extra language change.
SPEAKER_05They basically move that little extra bit, the part B. So now they say like having a supporting point in the teing area and not having a supporting point outside of T area is all rolled up into when the disk is released. They didn't really change anything with that, I don't think. Not from my understanding of it. They didn't really change anything with any of this this part.
SPEAKER_01Okay, so you don't even think we need to mess with the No, I think it's just all verbiage updates. Stance and such.
SPEAKER_05You make it easier to understand, consolidating some stuff that was kind of maybe spread across the rule book.
SPEAKER_06They also did note in the like little paragraph before, they're talking about they're adding the word clearly to the definition of a vi uh violation. So they're saying with like a jump putt or a step putt, the violation only exists if it's observable by the group or an official with the naked eye. So all of these, like when you go back and and watch it in slow-mo with 12 different camera angles, and you can tell that they picked up their foot before they let go of the disc. That's not going to be something that's applicable for foot faults and stuff like that. They're saying it it needs to be observable by the naked eye, you know, in the moment.
SPEAKER_01Okay. Uh Belgium scored again, Alex. I'm sorry.
SPEAKER_06Yeah, I saw it.
SPEAKER_04From this first one, they they did clarify wording like all the way down about hazard areas, which I always uh thought could have been worded better, where a hazard area is an inbounds area. So if you have some of your stance in hazard, but your lie is is safe from the hazard, like you can still um have a contact point in the point. Which is it's always been that way, but the wording wasn't great. So I like that they kind of clarified it.
SPEAKER_01Nice. And that yeah, the the hazard is an inbound area designated by the tournament director. Okay.
SPEAKER_05We don't really have hazards out here that off uh really anywhere, at least in the disc cap area, but that is something good to know because I don't know if my instinct would have told me I could have put a plant foot in a hazard area when I'm throwing.
SPEAKER_06I think you would logic your way there. Because it like if you've got a big hazard area where like anywhere within two meters of your lie is hazard, you're gonna figure out that you can stand in the hazard pretty quick.
SPEAKER_05You're right, because you literally you throw from a hazard.
SPEAKER_04It's when you've like cleared the hazard, but your whole stance is still in the hazard. Yeah. Like you don't treat it like OB, you can just stand right in it.
SPEAKER_06It's less clear when you're not being penalized for the hazard. Right, right.
SPEAKER_05Like, oh, I get a meter off of this, right? Nope.
SPEAKER_01Anything else on that then? That sounds pretty understandable. Uh then we go to 807, completing the whole, clarify that certain disks at rest outside the tray are not hold out. Currently, a disc can be wedged between the outside of the tray and an object, like a tree, but still meet all the standards for holding out, the disc at rest and supported by the tray. This change addresses this unintended and undesired outcome. While it is true that course design causes this problem, we can more readily and effectively address it through the rules. Changing course design requirements would mean retrofitting and changing courses in ways that may not be possible or effectively regulable.
SPEAKER_05Basically, what this is saying is most people would think that in order to hole out, as they say, the disk needs to be in the chains or inside uh of the tray or the in the basket, whatever you want to call it. But technically, as long as the disc is supported by the tray, whether that means wedged into the side, if the if the slats are wide enough, the disc is floppy enough, which I've seen, if it's wedged into the edge of the cage, like you, you know, you caged your pup but it stuck, that would be considered to uh still have made the hole, which it still does in this case. However, and I would have never thought this is a thing, but literally at NIFA finals last year at the Oasis, yep, is it hole sixteen or hole eighteen, seventeen? I think it was hole sixteen, possibly. Uh it's a par four, and the basket is like in the ground, and around the front of the basket, I believe, is like some wooden decorative pieces, whatever they were. And Gorsage was on the cart ahead of us, and he actually I don't know if it was a second shot or third shot, but he threw his disc that was leaning on the cage, but also touching not the cage, wherever those wooden things were. So it was like it was kind of more of like a leaner. It was not in the cage, it was not wedged into the cage, but because it literally was being supported by some degree by the tray, it was considered a make.
SPEAKER_01807B in order to complete a hole with a basket target, the thrower must release the disc and it must come to rest, supported by the tray, the chains below this the chain support, and they added, or any combination of the two. A disc that only meets these criteria because it is also supported by the playing surface or another object has not hold out. And so this is another case of just improved wording. We'll call it the Dan Doyle rule.
SPEAKER_05Yeah.
SPEAKER_01Because he has a tendency, and then I'm not it's not a complaint, but he does do like kooky holes, especially on at Oasis.
SPEAKER_05Yeah. And the PGA blog post, I guess you'd call it. The image they show is literally like a basket within eight inches of a tree, and the disc is wedged between the tree and the basket. The current rule suggests that that would be a make, but the proposed rule change that would not be uh uh a make anymore.
SPEAKER_01That sounds reasonable logical.
SPEAKER_06Yeah. Yeah, I I think this is a good change.
SPEAKER_01So anything else on that? All right, moving on. We got 809.01 abandoned throw, more options for abandoned throw. In certain situations, it is beneficial for a player to abandon their throw and return to their previous lie with penalty. This change allows the player to return to any previous lie on the hole, including the teeing area. It is important to note as the QA clarifies that all throws count plus the penalty, and this does not wipe out previous throws on the hole. That's the part where I think people are gonna have an issue or gonna be confused.
SPEAKER_05Yeah, I I've never been in a situation, I don't think, or I've seen someone in a situation where they would actually utilize this, but I could think of a, you know, you you you shank a drive and you try to get out, and now you're even further off into Vietnam, and then maybe at that point decide if I just go back to the T, it's gonna take me at least two strokes to throw out of this mess and put myself into, or maybe more. So maybe I just go back to the T or go back to where my first shot went. I I I think it's fine to have an option. I don't know you know how often it's gonna be you.
SPEAKER_03So in that case, you could either go back to the T or your first shot, and either way, you're throwing four. Yeah.
SPEAKER_04Yeah, I think this is really just clarifying the case where you abandon your third throw, or like you don't make your third throw because you've found yourself in such a bad spot, and you go back to the T, so it's not your previous lie.
SPEAKER_06It's it like you get up to your disc and you're like, I have absolutely nothing, but I'm gonna try it. And then you try it and you're like, clearly, this is not working. I'm gonna go all the way back to the teapad, even though I've already thrown twice, I'm I'm going all the way back. So it's two throws plus a penalty throw would mean you're throwing four from the teapad.
SPEAKER_01The QA says, and this is really just rewording what Alex just said, but uh my T shot got a horrible kick into the woods. On my next throw, I tried to get it back to the fairway, but it kicked to an even worse spot. What can I do now? And the answer is a player can elect to abandon their throw at any time and return to any previous lie in that hole during that round. Therefore, you could go back to the T with penalty. All the throws you made plus the penalty are applied, and you would be throwing your fourth from the T.
SPEAKER_03I guess I don't object to this. I guess I always kind of assumed like, oh man, that throw was bad, I'm abandoning it, and I'm gonna, you know, throw again, but I don't have an issue with with allowing that. You're still gonna take the penalty plus everything you threw. So sure, go back to the T if you want.
SPEAKER_06I hope to never have to use this. Yeah, yeah, right.
SPEAKER_03But good to know. I hope I'm never in a bad enough spot the B client has to remind me that this is an option.
SPEAKER_04I'm gonna remind people about this option when it doesn't need to happen.
SPEAKER_03Like he's helpfully reminding me of like, you know, you you try the putt and it rolls like a hundred feet, and it's like, man, I gotta putt from down there. Like, no, you don't abandon that and putt again. Those are helpful reminders. Yeah, this is like this is like salt of the wound if you're in this spot. But Randy's got your back, everybody.
SPEAKER_01Correct me if I'm wrong, but this could work if in that scenario, Evan, you try that putt, it rolls down the hill. Brandon says, Hey, you know you can throw from there. You're like, no, no, no, I got this. You go down to where your your putter ended, you throw it up again, and it rolls even further behind you. At that point, you might say, you know what? I could go back to the original putt. Now you're gonna take those throws plus the penalty.
SPEAKER_03But they both count plus the penalty. Yeah.
SPEAKER_01Brandon's gonna rag on you probably till the end of your days, but you have that option. You you can say, I'm gonna try it once. A lot of times it's situational. This could be match play where the other guy's not having a much better deal, you know? And this might be where you're like, oh, this guy just went OB twice. I can really, you know, make it a match or a hole if I if I use this this strategy. So because you can go to any spot, right, that you had previously been to.
SPEAKER_03Well, that's what I was gonna say, not to like beat this one rule. But if you say I've thrown two and now I'm abandoning going back to the T, okay, fine, you know where the T is. And the one you just described, I tried the putt. No, that that's even worse. I'm going back to where I was up on the hill. You probably don't still have a marker there. So at that point, it's like, okay, I think I was here. Or you know what I mean? Like, does that get a little weird for anybody? Yeah, there's like a group consist.
SPEAKER_01But I've also always felt that about a lost disc.
SPEAKER_06Yeah.
SPEAKER_01It was my second throw. I don't remember exactly where I was. You know what I mean? So there's always gonna be, I think, that ambiguity, but I see what you're saying, though. I was I kind of had that thought when I was saying it, but whoever's you're there with, they're not gonna put you that far back, I don't think. You're probably gonna you're probably gonna be putting from a little bit further away if you don't remember like, oh, I was right next to this little tree stump, you know, that kind of thing. But I don't know.
SPEAKER_03Just gonna start carrying like three minis at all times and just leave them behind. You got a number of breadcrumbs. Yeah, exactly.
SPEAKER_01I think we all agree it's it's kind of like a hopeful hopefully we never none of us ever have to deal with that rule, but it's it's nice to know it's in the pocket kind of thing. Of course, we have I don't know if we've stressed this enough. These are all proposed, so you know, uh so far it seems logically it would it would make sense. So up to this point, a lot of these will probably come into effect, but you know, I can't see a reason not to put this into effect other than what you mentioned.
SPEAKER_06I I just really don't want to ever have to use it.
SPEAKER_01Yeah.
SPEAKER_03Yeah, just don't ever use it as a point of pride.
SPEAKER_01Next up we got 810 interference. No penalty for hitting marker disc. The rule states that anytime you hit your own equipment with a throw, you receive a penalty throw and must rethrow from your previous lie. Since the rules also require you to either leave your disc at play on the playing surface, thus making it a marker disc, or using a mini as a marker disc, hitting these items should not be a penalty. This update makes that possible.
SPEAKER_04Agree. This is like a no-brainer, and like I've seen a highlight reel of somebody like doing a rolling dive to move their mini marker so their like putter didn't come back and roll over the top of it. That's insane that that was ever a violation. Yeah, that should not be.
SPEAKER_06I can't think of anyone who would ever penalize you for that. By the letter of the law, absolutely that's that's what it was. I have to imagine I've seen discs hit minis or you know, roll back and hit your disc or something like that. I'm never gonna call that on somebody. So I think I think this is a very good rule change.
SPEAKER_03I think it means specifically your own mini too. Right. Because like other people's mini is just part of the course at that point, right? Correct.
SPEAKER_06Yeah, yeah, you can you can hit other people's discs, other people's mini with no um no penalty.
SPEAKER_03Yeah, I got no issue here.
SPEAKER_01And a logical thought on that is if my disc somehow, if I say I'm putting and I hit the cage to such a way that it rolls back past my mini, there's a chance I'm gonna want to use that mini again anyway, because I'm gonna s abandon that throw and want to putt again. At least potentially. So moving it would be, you know, detrimental in a way, I guess.
SPEAKER_04Yeah. All right, now we get to the big one. Nailed that one.
SPEAKER_01All right, I dig it. All right, so uh sweet up putts and valley. No. Uh our next rule we got addressing illegal jump and step putts. In addition to the changes to the stance rule above, we are considering two potential methods for addressing jump putt and step putts that violate the stance rule because there is no supporting point in contact with the lie at the time the disc is released. The first method is to expand the putting circle to 20 meters. This would not affect the legality of jump and step putts itself, but would minimize the competitive effect of illegal putts because over 95% of holouts occur within 20 meters of the target.
SPEAKER_03Do we want me to read them all or No, I'm gonna snap reaction.
SPEAKER_05I got my own comments uh that that probably address all of it, I guess.
SPEAKER_03I can jump in quickly because I I've said this before. I will never ask you if I'm in or out of the circle because I don't step or jump. So it doesn't affect me personally. And the idea of expanding that to 20 meters and you can step or jump outside of that, I like that. Right off the bat, without hearing the other options, I'm already on board.
SPEAKER_05Okay, so these are my biggest things with moving the circle to 60 meters.
SPEAKER_0360?
SPEAKER_05Uh sorry, 20 meters, 60 feet, 60, 60. 60 feet, yeah, yeah. First of all, it's already hard enough for people to estimate what 10 meters is.
SPEAKER_04No, no one can do it, it turns out.
SPEAKER_05You know, you're gonna ask people to estimate what 20 meters is. Some people are gonna say it's 100 feet.
SPEAKER_06I got my range finder.
SPEAKER_05You're gonna lose so much time to people walking off 60 feet, walking it off range finders, you know, not everyone has a range finder. And uh I saw one comment on Facebook on some group or some guy's like, oh what? Every tournament I've played in has had 10 meters either marked or um painted. And like, I don't know where you're playing because that isn't. Yeah, would you play disc golf heaven? Yeah, that is not the case. And are you expecting that for every flex tournament that also has to abide by these rules that they're gonna go out there and mark 20 meter circles? Do you know how much shit could be in the way in 20 meters? Bushes, rocks, all that stuff? I think it's ridiculous.
SPEAKER_03So you think they should just outlaw step and jump putts?
SPEAKER_05No, I think I think they should make it so that there is no more 10-meter circle. People want to jump inside from 15 feet. Let's see if the the basket catches it. Just dunking it, basically. Yeah, they're trying to make so many rules against step punts because people can't tell if, like, oh, they this guy's hitting these 35 footers all the time, and I can't tell him a naked eye if if he's violated a rule. Just get rid of the rule. Just get rid of the 10-meter circle.
SPEAKER_03Do you think that a lot of people are releasing the disc with both of their feet off the ground, like in midair? A lot? No. I don't think so. So Randy says, oh, yeah. I think a lot of people are. My instinct says that a lot of people are.
SPEAKER_05I don't think that the physics of like generating power on a putt allows you to like at least like um commonly do that motion with both your feet off the ground.
SPEAKER_03Oh, I'm not saying they're they're putting well, I just think that a lot of people are doing.
SPEAKER_05I think there's a lot of falling putts. They didn't want to fall forward type of falling putts, but I think jump putts from 35, 50, 60 feet, I don't I don't think that it's not like you're gonna you're playing basketball and you got like these jump shots and stuff where you know you're leaving the ground and then throwing the ball. I mean, even think about like a baseball. Like people aren't jump throwing baseballs if they want to throw them hard. You know, they're they're planting throwing and what do you mean?
SPEAKER_04That's how they're turning to double putting it. But they're carrying their momentum past their lie if you're compare it.
SPEAKER_01I would totally disagree with that. I've seen pitchers, not a lot, admittedly, but there are a few that have made it to the major leagues where every time they throw a pitch, it's not called, but it is technically an illegal throw where they are in the air throwing. They do a little hop and they use the hop.
SPEAKER_05It's like the top point zero one percent of all baseball pitchers ever have this.
SPEAKER_01Uh no, no, no. These are journeyman pitchers, these are not the the top tier. These are guys that you know they got through it with nobody nobody called them on it ever, and they get up to the majors and they still haven't called it. They broke it down. I was watching a Met game. This is this is going back a couple years. It's not of a common occurrence. You can get momentum in that first split second that you get off the ground. Now that's that's my my opinion. I'm not a scientist, but it's possible.
SPEAKER_05It's probably it might not have been the best analogy, and I'm definitely not a scientist either, but I would just think at the root level, moving it to 60 uh 20 meters, terrible idea, logistically, and for speed of play.
SPEAKER_03What does it mean by 95% of holouts occur within 20 meters? Am I understanding that statement correctly?
SPEAKER_0595% of the time when a hole is finished by a player is from within that range.
SPEAKER_04Yeah, 5% or throw-ins, is what they're saying. Gotcha, gotcha. Okay.
SPEAKER_03All right, carry on.
SPEAKER_01The second method is to change the way the stance rule works between 10 and 20 meters. This change would be additional to the above change to the stance rule and require that a player keep one supporting point in contact with the lie through the entire putting motion, but allow follow-through. What do you think of that? I think I think that's a good compromise. Isn't that what it is now?
SPEAKER_03You have to be on the ground, but you can you can step through.
SPEAKER_06This is allowing step putts, but not jump putts within 20 meters.
SPEAKER_05I don't even know if it allows step putts, because I still think step putts, like you're stepping through, and after the disc is out of your hand, your back foot isn't on the ground anymore, which would which would also rule that is illegal.
SPEAKER_06I I guess it depends on the step putt. I I absolutely step putt where my back foot stays down the whole time.
SPEAKER_03I think that's what it's saying. You would have to have both feet down. You could step through after you let go.
SPEAKER_01It almost seems like it's allowing the falling putt. Yeah, I think that's more like the foot that's not behind the mini falls forward. That's what it sounds like.
SPEAKER_04Yeah, there's a few pros that do like a step through putt that I think this rule might jive with, but I think it is mostly covering like a falling putt.
SPEAKER_01Yeah, there's a lot of amateurs that do a falling putt within 10 meters, but you know.
SPEAKER_03No, that's true. And people don't realize at first. I mean, I'm not trying to single them out, but when Lenny first started, he didn't know that you couldn't step forward inside of a certain distance. And when we told him, and he was like, Oh, and he doesn't do it. You know, he just didn't realize that wasn't allowed.
SPEAKER_01So, Corey, it sounds to me like your biggest issue is semantics. Most baskets are built with circle one in mind, they don't have a bunch of stuff inside circle one. If you move it, expand it out to circle two, you don't know, like nature.
SPEAKER_05Yeah, I I think in a perfect world where every disc golfer had a rangefinder, 60 meters, sure, maybe. But even still uh 60 feet or 60 feet, sorry.
unknownYeah.
SPEAKER_05Trying to use these these non-American most holes aren't 60 meters, if I had to guess.
SPEAKER_03And it's actually closer to 66, sorry.
SPEAKER_05Yeah. Uh people have been saying that for a long time is to just find allow jump putts. But again, it doesn't, it does not even address the the root problem that people are coming up with is that you don't have a supporting point at the time you release. So what is moving it to 20 meters change? Just the fact that maybe it might not be as beneficial, you're still technically violent.
SPEAKER_03So it's just it's less likely to go in, so you're not gaining a competitive advantage.
SPEAKER_05Yeah, but but it's still illegal. Like it's still you still fail to maintain your stance when you release the disc or you know, maintain your um your supporting point behind the lie, but now just because you're doing it from we won't let you do it from inside 20 meters, uh, we'll we'll turn a blind eye.
SPEAKER_03It's already illegal, and we already admit that it's hard to tell in real time, and there's disparity between whether we think it's happening a lot. So you're not likely to make it this far away. So yeah, whatever. Yeah.
SPEAKER_05That part seems kind of half-assed, and especially in a series. I mean, so far all the rule changes have been really good at clarifying rules, and and then the first part of this one doesn't really do that.
SPEAKER_06If they're looking to change it in this manner, I would much rather see them say like 12 meters instead of 20 meters. But that's just me.
SPEAKER_01Why 12?
SPEAKER_06Just because 20 is a lot, and I think twelve would, you know, increase it by six feet or whatever, you get a you get a better um you're much more likely to be able to estimate that than twenty meters. If it's me, if I'm at sixty feet, I'm not gonna be able to putt something without at least stepping one way or another. So I'm I'm just gonna end up throwing it. So, you know, twelve meters feels like a much more, you know, like I can still normally putt from eleven and a half meters, but that's me.
SPEAKER_04Can we use Alex as a measuring unit at this point? I think that would fix it. 10 Alex's.
SPEAKER_06I legitimately do that at Warwick because I I am 203 centimeters and tall, which is to say just over two meters tall. So if if the disc is above my head, it's two metered. If it's not, then we're good.
SPEAKER_03God, that's such a cool way to say your height. 203 centimeters.
SPEAKER_01Born in the wrong country, man. I guess. Corey, what are your thoughts on that? Just expanding it. What'd you say, Alex? 12 meters?
SPEAKER_06Like it doesn't need to be specifically 12 meters. I just happened to like that. But yeah, and how many feet would that be? Like 36, 37, 38 in that general range.
SPEAKER_05What about that, Corey? Still pointless.
SPEAKER_06Yeah, they they're kind of addressing it, uh, addressing what you're talking about by saying it like if you can't see it visually, you know, in the moment, then it's not a violation. But yeah, uh like I definitely get where you're coming from.
SPEAKER_05To that point, to that point, it does make it slightly better if both rule changes went in at the same time. I I doesn't I still don't think it's a good idea, uh, or I still don't think it makes total sense just changing it to clearly because people are still gonna get butthurt about it. I clearly saw him. Like, no, I don't think you did. The the grass alone is six inches tall, so how did you clearly see that his foot didn't drop that last or you know, whatever the situation is.
SPEAKER_01I've also heard people use the excuse, well, the grass I was still touching the grass.
SPEAKER_05Which technically, I mean the grass is the playing surface, you know.
SPEAKER_01And that sounds like a jump putter talking right there.
SPEAKER_05That sounds like someone that was propping himself on a rock to get a better advantage of the butt. Which I thought there was some other rule that verbiage that kind of slightly addressed that as well, but uh it doesn't really matter.
SPEAKER_04I think I have a legit perspective that I just thought of. There are people, probably older people, who lose their balance when they throw hard. And I think changing the rule to 20 meters might legitimately impede them from throwing hard enough. Like we're not talking a step putt, we're talking they are chucking a disc 60 feet and like they need to carry their momentum forward from 60 feet, and now they would not be like that would be illegal. Does that make sense? Yeah. Like that's you're now you're punishing like certain athletic abilities just because of other people's lunging.
SPEAKER_05I mean, change an arbitrary twenty meters to an arbitrary hundred feet. Like a hundred feet for a lot of people is a throw. Yeah. Like sixty feet is a throw for me.
SPEAKER_01Yeah, you're you're adding forty feet just to make your argument sound better.
SPEAKER_05Well, I mean, I'm just saying, like uh if if people People start nailing 60 foot jump pods and like oh it wasn't enough. They need to move it back more. You shouldn't be able to putt from this far.
SPEAKER_01I think part of the problem is that circle two has come into while it's not an official stat, it's kind of in the lexicon. And I think they tried to use that. I think Alex's is more logical if you made it like you know, 12, just a little bit further to deter I'm looking at Corey's PDGA picture right now.
SPEAKER_03Bro, bro is airborne.
SPEAKER_05Yeah, that was a sick picture.
SPEAKER_03You got your tongue out like Jordan? I can't tell.
SPEAKER_05Dude, that's that's J Park hole twelve. I nailed that pot.
SPEAKER_04Exhibit A, Your Honor. At least the disc isn't in frame. Like he clearly threw it already. But they only got 80-footer.
SPEAKER_05Oh, that wasn't 30 foot. How many meters? Oh, wait, no, you can see. Never mind. That's not 80 feet, dude. That's like 35. You can see the whisker right in front of the page.
SPEAKER_04Oh my god, yeah, you can't.
SPEAKER_05Bro.
SPEAKER_01Alternatively, we could make the above-listed change to 802.07 alone and stand pat for now.
SPEAKER_03So part of that first section where they were clarifying terminology, it crossed out a whole bunch of stuff about putting area and just redefined it to inbounds and out of bounds, I think. So yeah, again, I as someone who doesn't do it, I don't it doesn't really affect me and I don't really care. It feels a little close right now at 10 meters. I kind of like Alex's idea. Make it a little further. Yeah, yeah. I agree. I think 20 is a lot, but if they left it alone, I wouldn't even really care.
SPEAKER_01Like it would take probably over a year for people to get used to the idea that, hey, uh, it's not 10 meters anymore, it's it's 12 meters. That would take an adjustment time.
SPEAKER_05And really, I not to reiterate, but I still I really think the nail in the coffin is that you ask five people how far is twenty meters, you're gonna get five probably pretty different answers. I I would maybe more so like to see this put up to the TD. Maybe the course that they're playing a tournament is a ball golf course, and 20 meters could be easily marked or something like that, but for a widespread rule change, not a fan.
SPEAKER_04Corey, that's the smartest thing you've ever said, I think. Because I think this rule really impacts uh the ProTor. They could make it a rule that could be implemented by a TD when a course has it all marked, and then we don't have to do the rule at local tournaments where there's boulders and things and you can't even measure 60 feet for like half of it. So we should write a letter.
SPEAKER_05This is the one time I was actually gonna respond to the public comment, actually. And basically just take those three or four points I mentioned, and then and then sign it off with I think you guys should just get rid of the rule. We want to start seeing slam dunks. What's more entertaining in basketball? Freaking some dude just going up for little top of the key shots. I'm trying to see some dunks. I want to see some I want to see Eagle McMahon freaking dunk this thing in from like 12 feet away through the legs. Well, that would still be illegal, but imagine how much Isaac Robinson would get splashed out in roll aways and Ganonberg cutt-throughs if they were jump putting from inside 20 feet. Not that they would, but just imagine.
SPEAKER_01All right. Uh so we'll we'll talk about some more
Summer Battle Royale Updates
SPEAKER_01rules next week. There were a few summer battle royale matches. Corey, you played Ryan, didn't you?
SPEAKER_05Yeah. Me and Ryan Elson played a couple weekends ago down at uh we decided to play Wilcox, which was not on the list, but with Ryan being way down there and me being way up here compared to him, we decided we'll meet in the middle and play Wilcox. We also thought if we were both going to drive all the way to Wilcox, that let's not just play 18 holes. So we decided to play front nine red, back nine blues, and south hatchet from the shorts. Another freaking hot day. We were battling back and forth through most of it. I think at what point Ryan got up to about three, I think he was three up on me with probably like six to eight holes to go. And with uh one, two, three, four, with four holes left, I got managed to come back to all square through the south hatchet and holes. So basically the last three holes were all square. He gets me one on 16. 17 had a chance to tie him back up, and we both pushed. We get to hole 18, he's one up on me. We kind of would have needed a bird on that one for me to either push it or have a chance to push it or not. And Ryan ends up beating me on that hole too to win two up.
SPEAKER_01Do you know who Ryan plays next?
SPEAKER_05Ryan, I believe, plays the winner of the match between Jamin and Alden, which has also already happened, but yeah.
SPEAKER_01Next time Jamin's on, we'll hear it.
SPEAKER_05So Ryan Nelson would end up playing the winner of that match, and I'll end up playing the loser of that match.
SPEAKER_01Yeah, that was my next question. Staying in the pro division, who'd you play, Alex?
SPEAKER_06I played against Justin Hickock.
SPEAKER_01Patreon Justin Hickok, so I assume you lost to him intentionally. No, I'm teasing. But where did you play? And you've just played tonight, right? Correct.
SPEAKER_06Yep. Uh we went out to Thatcher with the idea of practicing some holes for the Helderberg Championship. Things went well for the most part. I went up a couple to start. He brought it back to even, and then I took a few and just kind of held that for the rest of the way. But honestly, we both played really well. We were playing the longs, and I probably shot like six or seven down. He probably shot like four or five down. So yeah, it was a it was a really nice, nice day. We went quick, uh, not too hot. Nothing to really report.
SPEAKER_04Did you say who won?
SPEAKER_06Uh, I ended up winning uh three and one.
SPEAKER_04It's like he reported nothing.
unknownYeah.
SPEAKER_06Absolutely nothing to report, not even the winner. Did the US just kick their own goal in? No, the goalie did something stupid and it got taken away and they shot it in from halfway the up the pitch.
SPEAKER_01I I apologize to you're doing your round thingy while fucking they just scored. Yeah. So you won.
SPEAKER_06Do you know who Justin plays next? Justin is scheduled to play. It looks like when Ryan and whoever wins between Jamin and Alden when that happens, Justin will play the loser of that match.
SPEAKER_01And are you in a similar situation where you gotta wait for all that to clear up?
SPEAKER_06No, I go straight through to Justin Mucelli, who had a first round bye.
SPEAKER_01Alright. So he's rested. Yeah. Even though he probably played 47 rounds today. I'm sure he's rested.
SPEAKER_06All right.
SPEAKER_01Moving down to the the lowly AMs, Evan. And and I include myself in that, Evan. I wouldn't just, you know. Happy to represent. Who'd you play in what well oh wait, actually, Alex, where did you play again? The Thacker. Thacker? Was that on the list? Uh yes. It was it was uh Thatcher Long's was I just want to keep track of who's you know playing within the rules and who's breaking the rules.
SPEAKER_03I actually found out the significance of breaking those rules or not. And B Cline basically said, it's fine. You can play wherever you want, but if you go off the list, you're not eligible for the ace pod. That's fine. I thought so too. Yeah, that's fine with me.
SPEAKER_01So who'd you play and where?
SPEAKER_03So this is my second match.
SPEAKER_01Did you talk about your first match?
SPEAKER_03Yeah, I played Murray at um Central. I'm pretty sure we got that done pretty early on. Murray was really easy to schedule and we had a good time.
SPEAKER_01This match was interrupted by rain two weeks ago, and then it was made you made it last week.
SPEAKER_03Right. Leighton and I were looking at the 22nd, but it was gonna be a pretty, pretty poor weather day, so we postponed a week to the 29th. So last Monday I played Leighton. He had a bye. I believe he's the number one seed based on the bracket. So he had been waiting for me. We agreed to play a prospect.
SPEAKER_01On the list or not?
SPEAKER_03On the list. Okay. Worked out. I left work a little early so that we could get our match in and then still have time for dubs. Right off the bat, hole one. I had a really, really great backhand drive. He had an awesome forehand that just went too long. He missed the putt. I missed a putt I should have made. Didn't get a point there. And then he kind of did the same thing on two. But then after that, he went on a little bit of a little bit of a run, got some points on me. I got points back on eight and thirteen, but ultimately he won five and four. He didn't stick around for dubs because he was dealing with some back pain, but that did not prevent him from playing a really solid round. We had a great time. It was nice out. Now I am waiting for either JJ or the loser of Brian Monahan versus Mike Warner. So I might have some time before I know who I'm playing.
SPEAKER_01All right. I played my match not this past Friday, the Friday before I met up with uh Greg Kurtz at J Park. Not on the list, I don't believe. Jammer was on previous Saturday. I mentioned previously that I felt my arm fell off. I so I didn't touch a disc until Friday. Greg and I got there, like I was about to turn left into J Park, and he was turning right into J Park. It worked out perfectly. Then he uh didn't even park. He just kind of pulled up to the bathrooms and ran in for five minutes. So while I was getting my shoes on, he was uh doing whatever he had. Yeah, he had to he was like, I gotta go.
SPEAKER_05Well, knowing Greg, he probably just slammed like a pint of chocolate milk on the way down there. Warm that's been sitting out for a while.
SPEAKER_01Well, once he got finished, we chatted for a couple minutes, and then we're like, well, why don't we just go play some disc golf and keep chatting? So we get over to hole one and he's like, hey, you know, we just both pulled up, why don't we throw a couple discs off the teapad? And I'm like, hey, I'm I'm I'm 100% game. I don't know how you guys do this. Like at FDR, I know, especially if you're meeting somebody for a round, it's like you got you do the one off the T. Sometimes, if it's a friendly round, maybe you throw two and you pick the one you want, or you throw one to crack the bones and all that, then the next one counts, whatever. So he's like, I'm throwing two. I don't know what that means, but I saw him throw two, and then he went to grab another disc. So I'm like, okay, so that means throw two, and then the third one will count. I grabbed a couple of my putters and I throw the first one, and I'm just you know, just trying to get it out there, and I'm like, oh, not good. It still hurt. Not like injured her, just hurt her, sore. Like, haven't been to the gym in a while, kind of sore. And I'm like, fuck. So we're actually doing our regular throw. My only issue is I have like 20 feet less distance than I would normally have. Hole one, two, three, they're not ideal for that kind of situation because I am not a scrambler. So each time I'm like 10, 20 feet short where I'm normally at. So my putt is like 10, 20 feet longer than I wanted. So he's picking up strokes like nobody's business. We're four in, and he's up four. We were playing the one that keeps you on the park side. What's that? West?
SPEAKER_07Yeah, West. Yeah.
SPEAKER_01Really, it's not even much of a competition. He's just, you know, tapping in his stuff. All the while we're talking about team challenge and how I'm like, you know, I love team challenge. I always joke about hating team challenge. I love the idea of team challenge. My feeling of team challenge should be you get everybody there and then you break them up and make it as fair of pairings as possible. I don't want to drive an hour and a half, three hours to one of these courses as a sacrificial lamb. We're just debating that. It was fun. And all the while I'm thinking, I kind of just did that, didn't I? I just I just drove up here to be a sacrificial lamb. I guess hole five is is that the forehand?
SPEAKER_05Oh, wait, so you did cross the road over there.
SPEAKER_01Yeah, yeah. We played the the newer holes.
SPEAKER_05Yeah, Jay South.
SPEAKER_01Oh, okay.
SPEAKER_05Hole four is the forehand with the creek behind it.
SPEAKER_01Well, hole four, I actually had my first decent shot of the round. I threw a forehand that actually got through everything. I think I threw it into the water. So we're looking, we're looking, and I we can't find it. Greg goes like, oh, here it is. Oh, you're just in bounds. And I'm like, Greg, I'm pretty sure you move that fucker from out of bounds to inbounds just because you're already up three strokes on me. I think he moved it. And I'm like, that's fine, that's cool. I'm gonna play it. It's all good. I ran it like nobody's business, overshot it, and he still took the whole. I think I took one on like six or something like that. I I took a couple back, but it was really just a fun casual conversation most of the time. Those four strokes were what did it. He got me the first four, probably the next 10 or so. We kind of played even, and then we didn't have to play the last four because we did anyway. We played we played 17, we didn't play 18 or 36 because my arm at that point was done. Yeah, I was like, I'm no, my I'm I can't I can't throw another disc. And uh haven't since that was last Friday. I found out after the round, I get to play. Anyone want to take a guess?
SPEAKER_03I already know, so I won't guess. Brandon Klein.
SPEAKER_01No, even better, I get to play Eric Struna next. Oh and I have not contacted him about it, but I have to decide between my desire to be Eric Struna and my lack of desire to drive two hours to play disc golf again. What do I do?
SPEAKER_05This time before you actually play Eric, like get out of the car and like, I don't know, rotate your shoulders a bit. Like do do a little bit. This is like this is a battle of the Titan, if the Titans were you two.
SPEAKER_01I knew with Greg's knowledge of the course, I knew I didn't really have much of a I thought I had a like a puncher's chance if everything kind of worked my way, but as soon as I threw those two practice shots, I knew, okay, this is not gonna happen. Like I said, it loosened up for a bit in the middle, but I also felt like he might have taken his foot off the gas. I haven't even talked to Eric since because I knew I needed to take at least a week off from playing because my arm was was that hurting.
SPEAKER_05Dude, a week off on the drive up to go play Eric. I want you to drink a zero sugar monster and slam a few ibuprofen, get out of the car, do a couple warm-ups, throw a few drives, and then put on a show.
SPEAKER_01I just need to get like one round in between now and the time I play him. I fear for my life with those energy drinks.
SPEAKER_05So I figured it was 50%.
SPEAKER_01It's honestly the reason I never tried to like coke in my life. I feel like my heart will literally explode with an energy drink, a five-hour energy, cocaine, what anything like that. I I keep you out of trouble. I fear for my life.
SPEAKER_03Pat, if you were gonna go off the list and break the rules, where would you want to play him?
SPEAKER_01I would actually leave that up to him. Where do you think he'd want to play me?
SPEAKER_03I was just wondering if you would do like a meet in the middle type thing, because he likes to travel to play like I do.
SPEAKER_01No, because first of all, I don't know where exactly where he lives, so I don't know exactly what would be in the middle, but I wouldn't want to play Wilcox. I just don't play there enough. I would probably pick Stony Kill, but obviously that's out of the question.
SPEAKER_06Yeah. Maybe there's like an like an FDR or beacon or something like that. It's a little bit more close to you for sure, but I don't know.
SPEAKER_01Yeah. I think if I'm gonna beat him, I'll go to his fucking next door neighbor. Like, I don't care.
SPEAKER_03Sounds like a prospect match. I was gonna say prospect is probably geographically closest to him.
SPEAKER_01Yeah, I would beat him at I mean play him at prospect. Nice.
SPEAKER_03I will definitely try and find out when this is happening. I would love to come and hang if you guys don't mind.
SPEAKER_01I mentioned to Corey, like, oh, I'd really like to watch him and Ryan play, but then I realized, thank God Corey didn't tell me. Because do I really want to drive an hour and a half to watch two people play disc golf? No.
SPEAKER_05I said that I I literally said that to Ryan when we got to the South Hatchet holes. I'm like, yeah, Pat was kind of mentioning like coming to hang out, and I'm like, dude, we're out here for I don't know how many hours. Like it was it was hot out, we're walking up and down wheelcocks or playing 27 holes, and like I feel like this probably wouldn't be the best idea. No.
SPEAKER_03It's very different than me driving five minutes to prospect to watch you guys.
SPEAKER_01Yeah, no. Yeah. If you came out, that'd be cool. Oh, no, no, Jamin. Okay. Yeah, I would have tried to figure out a way to uh play or something without bothering them, but that I don't I didn't see that as being Well, yeah, you definitely could have played with us.
SPEAKER_05Yeah, if you came anywhere to play, you definitely could have.
SPEAKER_03I yeah, I figured as much, but I you know There's other cool choices on that list too.
SPEAKER_01Yeah. I'll leave it entirely up to him. That way, when I beat him, he'll feel worse.
SPEAKER_03I just I don't know. I'm just no, that is some top tier mind games, I agree.
SPEAKER_01All right. Uh Randy, are you not playing in this?
SPEAKER_03Nope.
SPEAKER_01All right.
SPEAKER_04Sucks to be no, it's it's I feel so good not having to schedule one more thing in my life. Like, that's basically the reason I'm not doing it.
SPEAKER_01That's completely fair.
CtK Flex Rating
SPEAKER_01Uh so no Jamin. So we're I'm gonna hold off on the flex. Although with him not here, you did you guys all play in that?
SPEAKER_03I did, yeah. CTK, I did. I did.
SPEAKER_01Okay. I was thinking, what about a tournament rating? Maybe without Jamin? I didn't know if that would be better. Would you want to rate that tournament or no? Sure. Again, flex par.
SPEAKER_03Solid par. I said when I was there how cool it was that it was kind of posted last minute and it worked out really well for me. It was on a Sunday. Love CTK. Going in, I was scared of a rated round on the layout, but it didn't deter me from going.
SPEAKER_05No, it was good.
SPEAKER_03He had a new hole done, so maybe even a a tap-in par.
SPEAKER_05Yeah, no, the course is playing really good. The changes that not even just like the actual like hole changes, but you can tell he put a lot of time into cleaning up walking paths and and a bunch of other stuff. But yeah, definitely, definitely uh par rating.
SPEAKER_01I mean it's a it's a flex. I don't see a flex getting much above a par rating unless you get finished and you get like lap dances or something. What else are you gonna do? Everybody's playing it a different time. There's not you can't do a ring of fire, you can't do things to improve you can't even do tags because people are playing at such different hours, you know. Randy, any thoughts? Any differing?
SPEAKER_04Yeah, I would say it's it's weird to describe a an event with a par because like Evan said tap in par, and I would say like a really rewarding par. Like, you know, you did a good job to get that par. Because yeah, the course was in outstanding shape. Like he did not have to put that much work in for a flex, and you know, it it was ready for uh an A-tier kind of situation. Like full everything was flagged, you know, mode, perfect conditions. Yeah, to get that competitive a field out to sign up with short notice like that was was great.
SPEAKER_01So we got to figure out what is more impressive, a tap in, because that means you had two really good shots to get there, or like an outside the circle.
SPEAKER_03Yeah, I know what Randy meant. I meant it as like better than a par kind of thing. I don't know.
SPEAKER_01And I guess that's what I'm trying to figure out. Like, what's the more impressive par? Somebody who's good enough that they're like pinned and they can just tap it in, or somebody who maybe their second shot didn't go as far as they wanted and had to make a big putt.
SPEAKER_03Randy's the one that taught me to land close so I don't have to putt.
SPEAKER_05The thing is, though, when Randy told you that he was landing close from 30 feet away with a layup to tap in a par.
SPEAKER_03No, Randy was throwing bombs at Colonial Acres to the amazement of us uh newbies.
SPEAKER_01All right. So on average, par plus or so.
SPEAKER_03It was par with a high five.
SPEAKER_01Yeah, okay. So what was the new hole that he added and what were your guys' thoughts?
SPEAKER_04So yeah, the new hole is hole eight. Traditionally, it was uh par four, and it it played down like a rectangular-shaped fairway, and the basket was, I don't know, five hundred feet. Was it more than five hundred? Let's say it was about five hundred feet, but it was up a hill at the end and it was guarded by like fruit trees, like bushy, semi-tall trees. Like you could throw over them.
SPEAKER_05And the driveway within like 20 feet or so.
SPEAKER_04Yep, so OB behind the basket. So, really, like the shot was just throw it as far as you can inbound and then make a pretty dang technical upshot to hopefully not have to putt toward the OB to from too far. And now it is a part five, same T-pad, but you're trying to land on the right side of the fairway, still with that corn field of OB on the right, but then it's mowed down to make like an L shape, and then there's like a 40-foot gap through a wood line, and that woodline is all OB, and then the basket is I don't know, 250 from the gap, maybe it's about 200, yeah.
SPEAKER_05It's 200. I do.
SPEAKER_04Yeah, okay. Maybe it's yeah, and then that area is uh is a nice mowed area with with OB flags. It's um generous, it's like a hundred feet wide, probably. Like you don't have to throw the most perfect shot ever just to land you know inbounds over there.
SPEAKER_05I think the basket is probably surrounded like 45 feet OB. Like definitely not circle one, but definitely inside circle two.
SPEAKER_03Yeah, it's tight. And in MA2, we played all blue Ts except for hole eight. We played the red, which is the same T as it used to be on hole eight, playing to what Randy just described. So I think for us it was like at least six hundred total, I think. And you guys was close to a thousand.
SPEAKER_04Yeah, it was like nine, nine something.
SPEAKER_03Or six eighty-five, it says right here, and nine hundred. So there you go.
SPEAKER_04Me and Adam Nelson both took like tap-in birdies on it. So I kind of never want to play the hole again because uh I feel like it was it was too easy to do that. But the play is basically you know a 400-foot T shot and then a 250-foot upshot to the gap and then a throw, you know, through the gap to hopefully park it.
SPEAKER_05My problem was I did not go out there and look at what the hole change looked like, and I was first on the T-box where like the drive doesn't really change for the new position unless you can throw really far. But I do feel like you have more you don't have more room to work on the right, but if you could throw 400 feet, you could definitely get to a spot where the OB widens out. Yep. And I feel like if I knew that I would have changed up a little bit. My problem with that whole historically has always been landing in the apple or whatever trees they are, like landing in the trees and having some like crouch hidden tiger, crouching dragon style throw.
SPEAKER_04Is that where you're lifted on wires?
SPEAKER_05So close. I think that was actually backwards, but I love that crouching tiger, hidden dragon. Yeah, I just I I'd like to play the hole again, and I think I would do a lot better. Because even like when you're throwing from the first fairway, the main landing spot, you're kind of throwing over a hill to get to the mouth, the gap to get you know 200 feet short of the basket. And then that's also surrounded by OB as well. And you can't see where the OB is long because you're guarded by this hillside in front of you. So yeah, I just I I think it's it's gonna it's a cool hole, uh, but at least from what happened on Sunday, I just I I wish I uh at least checked it out before playing.
SPEAKER_04Jamin also shaped the OB to be like forgiving if you actually can throw 500 feet and you can actually you can get to like a landing spot and then try to play it for an eagle. Like if you got all the way there, you could try to go over the top of this wood line to get to the basket to play for an eagle. It's an insanely high risk way to play it, but he shaped it so it it is doable.
SPEAKER_03Yeah, that shape also helped from the Red T because really you only needed 150 feet to get to this first kind of safe area. But if you could throw like 350, you could kind of go up over this ridge these guys are talking about to get closer to the mouth. It was still a par five for us. Tim and I checked it out before a round. We played it as a doubles team real quick and got a par, which was not how it went for me in the real round. It's a very cool hole and it was a nice addition. I think it takes advantage of the space pretty
Last Week in Disc Golf
SPEAKER_03well.
SPEAKER_01Nice. I thought we could go over some uh last week in disc golf. Yep. Evan, you weren't here last week, but you played Prospect Dubs last Monday. Do you remember? Yeah, I think was I with Patrick? You were with Nicholas Alcatraz at Cats.
SPEAKER_03Oh, yeah, that was fun. Nick's one of my oldest disc golf buddies, so we always have a good time. I don't think we lit it up that night.
SPEAKER_01Minus 10.
SPEAKER_03Yeah, 10 down. Okay. I had played with Leighton earlier, so I was I was nice and loosened up and happy to just play some more. Yeah, love playing with Nick, enough said. Do you know who won? I don't recall.
SPEAKER_01That's cool. Well, you guys tied for fifth with Gregory Lye and Peter Cornish. Jordan Kazlin and Phil Rogers came in fourth. They shot minus twelve. David Chaiken and Denny Delee tied for second with Mark Davidson and Kyle Moore at minus thirteen, and Josh. Lee and Jay Gorsage are your winners. They shot minus fifty.
SPEAKER_03That's right. And we played with Greg Lye and Pete Cornish on a card.
SPEAKER_07Mm-hmm.
SPEAKER_03Yeah. And then I was gonna go jump on the podcast, but I got home and I had a groundhog trapped behind my garage and a tick in my leg, so I didn't make it. Sorry, guys.
SPEAKER_01Moving on to this week, on Monday, we had Gung's dubs. Jacob Driscoll tied for second with Andy Lewis and Eric Weaver, they shot minus seven. Max Horowitz and Brian Hauser were your winners, they shot minus eight. SPAC, but at Shen Dubs Week 13, also had a tie for second place. Matt Salloway and Andrew Chamberlain shot minus nine, so did Parker Saron and Dan McCrae. Nathan Coogan and Jira Pat Kaye are your winners, they shot minus ten. Over at Colonial Acres dubs, there was a three-way tie for second place this time. Christopher Evanchuk and Eric Randall tied with Peter Fitzisti and Matthew Bauer, who tied with Sean Dollard and Brandon Klein, they all shot minus eight. Mark Bryan and Tim Nimmer were your winners, they shot minus nine. On Tuesday at Skyland's dubs, Matt Kiyunga and Brandon Lockhart came in third place, they shot minus seven, and there was a tie for first between Brennan Coltrane playing either Cali or with an unknown partner. They tied Brian Heller and Jason Murak, shooting minus eight. No Wilcox tags this week, but it doubles. There was a three-way tie for first place, they all shot minus ten. Jackson Quinn and Patty, and Matt Hart and Jimmy O'Connell, and Matt Natinson and Ryan Nelson. CTK Handicap League had a tie for third place with an even par handicap. That was uh John Furman and Jake Huey. Tom McGuckin came in second, shooting a minus four handicap, and your winner, Captain America, Chris Evans, with a minus ten. Kisko Tuesday Dubs had a three-way tie for second place. Steve Magnusson and Simon Ramon shot a minus eight. So did Mike Sheets and Fletcher Faden, and Chris Gofield and Ishmael Valencia also shot minus eight, but they won second place in a throw off. Kyle Loonsden and Andrew Fishkin were your winners. They shot minus 12, and Kyle took the CTP on hole twelve. J Dubs Points Championship. You played there too, didn't you?
SPEAKER_03I surely did. How'd that go? You played with Petatet Jeffries. That was when I played with Pat. See, I knew I had played with Patrick recently. Yeah, I love playing with Pat. He's one of my lemon heads, and he had Otis with him, which is uh one of the more chill disc golf dogs that I know. Good time. We only got two birdies, but no bogeys. But that put us like six out of eight. So nothing too fancy, but another fun night of disc golf.
SPEAKER_01Absolutely. Corey, did you play with Megan Mercier or Megan Mercer?
SPEAKER_05I believe it is Megan Mercier.
SPEAKER_01Okay.
SPEAKER_05Yeah, we were supposed to play an extended layout, uh the Southwest layout, but for most of the day the radar looked fine as far as the J Park area, and then like kind of last minute it shifted, and we got hit hard with rain. One of the most intense rain that I've been in in years, like right around start time. So um we had, I think, 15 people show up. Thankfully, no one left, but we kind of stalled for uh 20-30 minutes and then pivoted to just play the J West 18 layout. From that point on, it didn't rain at all, which was awesome. But yeah, we had 15 people come out again. Kind of feels like we're having deja vu from previous weeks, but we had a pileup at last cash and also a playoff again containing Harry Lehman, who at this point is the points leader. But Harry and Brandon Klein played off against uh Jay Gorsage and Tim Gorriette, and it took three holes to decide it, but um Harry and Brandon ended up winning it on hole seven for first place.
SPEAKER_01Tim Goyette didn't win on hole seven?
SPEAKER_05Yeah, it's crazy. Wow. I don't know how he fucked that up, but he won.
SPEAKER_01That's why he's not here tonight. He didn't want to he didn't want to face it. That's fair.
SPEAKER_05On top of that, Josh Lee did get the hole two CTP $15 uh with a park job and running at the free CTP. But yeah, what could have been a really shit day and I don't know, potentially canceling it. Turned out to be a pretty nice night.
SPEAKER_01Nice. Shen Creek Dubs, week 16, had a tie for third place at minus six. Millie Smith and Cody Canine tied with Jared Borelli and Chris Wilson. Joseph Riley and Chris Evans came in second place at minus seven, and Levi V and Cody Miller are your winners, they shot minus eleven. Port Jervis Spring Summer League week eight had a tie for second place. That's the theme for this evening. Peter Newland and Micah Ortez shot minus eleven, and Tyler Ferrati is your winner, he shot minus fourteen. Skylines had their July monthly on Wednesday. William Byrne wins the C pool. Bagger. Brian Heller won the B pool, and there was a tie for second in the A-pool. Danny McCormick and Leighton Brinster both shot minus eleven, but Steve Brinster took it down with a minus twelve. Randy or Alex, did either of you guys play Stony Kill? I don't see you in the top-ish area here.
SPEAKER_06Uh I did not play, no.
SPEAKER_01Randy, no? Was I camping? Oh, you might have been camping. Yeah.
SPEAKER_04I was camping. Yeah, I didn't play this golf.
SPEAKER_01All right. Well, uh, there was a tie for third. Sam Richter and Gary Lefebvre tied with Steven Malin Jr. and Luke Katletsky, who tied with Brandon Racine and Dave Chaiken. They all shot minus 10. Chris Myers and Denny Daly tied for first with Nick Alcatraz at Katz and Gary Wood, but it looks like uh Nick and Gary won in some form of playoff. Usually it has it in little writing on here, but it doesn't specify what the playoff was, but they are denoted as the winners. What about Discap Pro League, Corey? Where did you guys play? It was the last week, right?
SPEAKER_05It was the last week of the first half. Because I think he's doing two, it might be both 10-week seasons as far as the standings go. Although I think we skipped a week, so uh I guess this was only a nine-week season.
SPEAKER_01Yeah, week two I don't see any results for you.
SPEAKER_05Yeah, I think we can't.
SPEAKER_01That was your party, wasn't it?
SPEAKER_05Oh, yeah, you're right. Yeah, that was the J Park New York team challenge team party. For week 10, we played J South. We had five people. It was hot as hell. Myself, Troy Visery, Tyogannon, Justin Michelle, Justin Park. Troy actually locked his keys in the car before we started and had to call his his mama to come run him down his fair key to get in.
SPEAKER_01You didn't have a slim gym?
SPEAKER_05Well, I thought that if it came down to it, we're gonna play our round and then we could figure it out afterwards, basically.
SPEAKER_01That's fair. Plus, you didn't have it in the car you drove, you have it in the other car that you left at home. The slim gym. I get you.
SPEAKER_05Smashing the window would have been really easy. Justin Park, who he's been killing it this year, I feel like he crushed it with a five down single bogey on hole two, 10-10 rated to take the lead by five strokes over me. But yeah, pretty sure it's just rolling right into the next week's too.
SPEAKER_01So there's not like a first half winner, say half winner, there's just an overall winner.
SPEAKER_05No, yeah, I wasn't sure about that either until uh there is a disc golf scene page for it, and that is set up for the whole year. So I think it's just the way PGA leagues work.
SPEAKER_01Yeah, they I don't think they let you do more than 10 weeks, probably at a time.
SPEAKER_05He did 10 weeks and you he scheduled it so that the final week would be before you know the next rating update. And then yeah, so I think I think there's 10 more weeks from here for the actual point series part of it.
SPEAKER_01But so these will go into ratings for the next update, right?
SPEAKER_05The July update, we'll get these, yep.
SPEAKER_01Okay, that's cool. That's cool that he thinks of that kind of shit.
SPEAKER_00What about an update for the Disbeat Club there, Robo Kevin Cronke? Summer school is in session, and it was HOT yesterday. Johnny Krajewski with his best round ever takes the lead. Stay hydrated out there, folks.
SPEAKER_01With that being the first week, John Krajewski is in the lead for overall standings, he has 13 points. Pete W in second with 12, Mark Ungerman is tied with Jim Burns for third, and Sparky Spaulding is in fifth place. CPS Thursday dubs week 12, Cody H and Danny White are your winners, they shot minus 15. Lenny Rabune and Tyler Gannon had an ace on hole three, one of them. Long Island Thursday dubs, Kevin Castilla and Joseph Murray came in third place, shooting even. Sean Mahan and Brian Bowe came in second, minus four, and Brian Wisher your winner, minus six. No TGIFDR dubs this week. Skylands Friday Handicap League, Scott Spellman came in third place, Elijah Morgan in second, and Mike Baglioni is your winner. Cranmore Dubs League was at Jenkinsville. There was a tie for third place. Ari Fructer and Mike Prince shot minus five, so did Jace Carter and Joseph Pulsoni. Hans Huntsberger and Logan Aikens tied with Jack Fructor and Violence their Devon. The both teams shot minus 11, but it looks like Jack and Violence were your winners in a playoff of some sort. Corey, you on Friday you played SPW Dubs League? What?
SPEAKER_05Oh yeah. Yeah, after Bourbine Flex, I was hanging, we were hanging out with Gorsage, and he was like, at this point, I don't know what time it was, three o'clock or something like that. He's like, Yeah, I think I'm gonna go and play uh SPW dubs. You're playing 36 holes. And I I'm guessing I was dehydrated at this point because I'm like, that sounds like a great idea. So yeah, we uh he left the park. I sprinted home from Bourbine, refilled on the water, hopped on a motorcycle, rode down to SPW, and uh hung out with those guys for tonight. Another hot ass day, too. It was it was so hot.
SPEAKER_01You remember anything about your run?
SPEAKER_05Uh so they do chips there, and I got Jay Malloy, Red Herring, you know, the uh basically course designer. There's already some uh some rumblings about like how these guys get matched up, but I had just played 18 holes at Burbine. I was not in any uh uh I was exhausted. But yeah, so they did 36 holes, played the your first 18 was all blues, and then from there you played all whites. Gorsage actually made app updates for this to make it all work correctly. Yeah, no, it was uh it was definitely somewhat grueling, but it was really enjoyable. And Jay Malloy gave me one of his uh, I don't know what's calling him moosehead beers or whatever. So it's a couple times you get some big putts, and uh there was some type of moose head exclamation afterward, which is really funny, but that's a good time. A long day, but I think we uh yeah, we came in second.
SPEAKER_01Yeah, it looks like Denny Dilly and Brian Bickersmith came in third, shot minus 20, you and Jay Malloy shot minus 22, and Lenny Rabune and Dustin Burton took you down at minus 23, got you by a stroke. No okay DGC dubs, Alex, but I'm sorry.
SPEAKER_06Yeah, yeah. Yeah, no like okay dubs, it was like 100 degrees and miserable.
SPEAKER_01I was just because yeah, they just scored it again. Yeah. Belarus? How do we lose to Belarus? That's Belgium.
SPEAKER_06You remember during the football season, there was that one field goal where the guy like kicked the ground instead of actually kicking the ball. That was how we gave up the third goal. And that's just that's awful. But yeah, I mean, it it was getting increasingly unlikely at the end. That's just the nail in the coffin. Can't it can't be yeah, it just wasn't gonna happen.
SPEAKER_01And once you get that third goal, that fourth goal is almost easier because the other teams they don't even give a fuck about defense at that point. They need offense. And yeah. Exactly.
SPEAKER_06If we were just hunting one, we might have been able to get there, but uh hunting two is uh is too much.
SPEAKER_01With uh it says plus four, so they got about 15 seconds left.
SPEAKER_06So yeah, I'm surprised they haven't called it already, to be honest.
SPEAKER_01That part is what I think people get iffy about because it's it is kind of arbitrary. It's like, well, we said five and you're at five fifteen, but you know what? You got you're on the offensive attack, we'll let you keep going.
SPEAKER_06Yeah, and like if if somebody scores in that five minutes, you know, that's 30 seconds uh a minute of you know celebrations and getting the ball reset and stuff like that. So that it's so it's very um fluid and and uh inexact.
SPEAKER_01You call it fluid, I call it arbitrary, but you know, it's all the same.
SPEAKER_06Yeah, same thing.
SPEAKER_01Saturday we had deep discs independence discs five. You guys are only 245 away from uh the declaration of independence. Who played there?
SPEAKER_05Myself and Evan, I think.
SPEAKER_01Yeah, how'd that go? You played 27 holes?
SPEAKER_0527 holes, yep. J27.
SPEAKER_01At this point, Corey, how are your arms?
SPEAKER_05You know, it's funny. My body felt fine as far as like uh throwing, motion, fatigue, drained, just overall might have been a good one. I uh like I said, man, this heat is too much, but I I felt fine as at least uh soreness wise.
SPEAKER_03How'd you feel, Evan? I was feeling all right as far as like overall. I had also done the SPW 36 hole dubs, so it was a lot of disc golf, but free weekend I was able to do it, so I wasn't gonna pass the chance. I've been kind of dealing with some arm issues for a little while since uh a tick bite and some antibiotics, but did you test or no? No, apparently the the list of symptoms I gave them over the phone, they just said we're gonna call in the antibiotic. Yeah, just it was yeah, I had kind of not connected the dots until my wife when I kind of realized all the things I'd been planning about for the week. So just a little tingling in my fingertips and some soreness.
SPEAKER_01But you're turning into tick man? No, that's that's what my wife said.
SPEAKER_03I don't know what kind of powers I get with that.
SPEAKER_01Just the power to annoy people easily.
SPEAKER_03Yeah, just like that. But no, independence discs is I wasn't gonna miss that. It was uh looking to be another hot day, but nice out. I don't know if I've done every one of them, but at least the last several. And it was cool. I got to play in a car with Denny Daly and his brother-in-law Zaren. Zaren was actually my partner the night before at SPW, so it was fun to play with those guys. It was uh, I don't know, not my best round. I think I shot 16 over, but it was fun to get out there and play. Big tag match, a lot of tags in play. Hudson Valley tags, discap tags, Wilcox tags.
SPEAKER_01I saw there were a bunch of Hudson Valley tags. That was cool. Corey, it sounds like Evan didn't shoot particularly well. How'd you shoot?
SPEAKER_05Played okay. We uh we got a little bit of storm damage as well at J Park, but not knowing what Sonic Hill got, obviously. So before we started the round, I went out and um cleaned up hole 13 a little bit, and hole 14 had a uh tree come down and it like landed right in line with the path. So I went to throw my chainsaw, kind of cleaned it up, but like didn't look anywhere else. And then we get to hole 14 and realize that oh, where that tree came down, this trunk that I didn't move is leaning on this other little bendy tree that is now literally blocking the backhand line to the hole, which is like the backhand is like the way to get there. So that was kind of funny to get to, but I forget what I played. I played, I think Caitlin, Patrick Jeffries, which is cool, and Danny Parton. I I played pretty good for most of the for most of the round, getting to like the last few holes. I think me and Eldon were we're pretty close, and I just got I got like screwed on hole 25 and 28, Mount Misery, a mystery kill with just some like epic roll aways that kind of caused me to bogey into a bogey those holes, which I think at that point put me in third place behind Jason Gorsage, but I somehow managed to drain a sick jump putt on 29 for Birdie to tie his ass. But we both lost to Alden by I think like three stroke, but it did feel good beating Brian Pickersmith. So I'll take that.
SPEAKER_01Yeah, that's two in a row between that and SPW dubs league.
SPEAKER_05Oh yeah, I'll take that. Yeah. Also shout out Alden Slack brought a delicious watermelon for after the round that really was hitting.
SPEAKER_01Seated or unseated?
SPEAKER_05Unseated, yeah. I wasn't spitting those.
SPEAKER_01SPW Doubles League, Forsoms of July. Logan Akins, Kat Bemis, Cody Canine, and Nicholas Alcatraz at Katz tied for second place at minus 10 with Jay Malloy, Doug Ionin, Kevin Cronkey and John Duda. Justin Frey, Dustin, Mike Smith, and John Kurjuski are your winners. They shot minus 14. Sazfras solos at Dove Handicap League on Sunday. Matt Beaver came in third place, shooting a minus one handicap. Chris Wilson in second at minus seven, and Tyler Friedholford is your winner, shot minus eight. Long Island Sunday doubles. Chris Lucier and Stan D came in third place, shooting a minus eleven. John Nichols and Josh McDonald came in second at minus fourteen. And Josh Winkler and Brian Wisher are your winners. They shot minus 15. Evan, I know you didn't play today, but did they do prospect dubs?
SPEAKER_03I think they did. I didn't go. I took uh after doing everything we discussed, plus the CTK flex, I thought that was enough for a night off.
Disc or No Disc
SPEAKER_01Oh, that's fair. All right. Disc or no disc. It's Corey and Evan, Randy and Alex. The Jay Parkers versus the Stony Killers.
SPEAKER_05Oh, hell yeah. Classic.
SPEAKER_01And because I wrote them down first, Corey and Evan. I got category one, category two, or category three. Which category would you like?
SPEAKER_05One of those numbers is more American than the other, and that's number three, Pat.
SPEAKER_01Alright. Question one, category three. Manufactured by a fictional company whose name is a backronym for a company making everything. What is famously dropped from the sky in countless Looney Tune cartoons, usually flattening Wily Coyote? Manufactured by a fictional company whose name is a backronym for a company making everything. What is famously dropped from the sky in countless Looney Tune cartoons, usually flattening Wily Coyote? Feels like an anvil.
SPEAKER_05Oh, oh yeah, I was always trying to think. Yeah, anvil sounds good.
SPEAKER_01You guys agree?
SPEAKER_05Yeah.
SPEAKER_01Is the anvil a disc?
SPEAKER_05I thought I was gonna say piano last minute or something. Is the anvil a disc? Yeah, definitely. West Side, right? Yeah, I think so. I'd say yes.
SPEAKER_01West Side Golf Discs, February 8th, 2018. Oh yeah. What's a backronym? It's an acronym made up after the fact.
SPEAKER_06You start with a shortened version and then you come up with words that start with the action.
SPEAKER_01Oh, like they back into it?
SPEAKER_06Yeah, yeah.
SPEAKER_01Acme was never, it didn't really mean anything. Somebody came up with that. A company making everything. Acme. Gotcha, gotcha.
SPEAKER_05I did not put that together. When you said the company making everything, I'm like, well, it's not Amazon, they just sell everything.
SPEAKER_03Oh, I just I was trying to think of what Acme backwards was. And if that was anything.
SPEAKER_01Category one, category two, or category three? You tell me, Randy. Um one. All right. Question one, category one. What company used the advertising slogan think different from 1997 through 2002? What company used the advertising slogan think different from 1997 through 2002?
SPEAKER_06Was that Apple?
SPEAKER_01I have no idea.
SPEAKER_06I thought it was Apple. I don't know that for a fact.
SPEAKER_02Sounds fine.
SPEAKER_06I mean, let's do it because that's that's what I'm coming up with.
SPEAKER_02So you guys agree? Yep. Is the Apple a disc?
SPEAKER_06Damn it, man. Thank you. I am not aware of Clash making an Apple, but it it's right up their alley.
SPEAKER_04I know. This is like one of those, it's like it's kind of gotta be, but I don't actually know.
SPEAKER_06We're the worst at at these at the second part of questions. So you tell me.
SPEAKER_04Uh we're going yes.
SPEAKER_01Going yes. Let's do it. You guys agree? Yep. Yep. In of a champion discs, super class and vintage class, August 10th, 1995. Huh.
SPEAKER_06Hell yeah.
SPEAKER_01I believe it's a uh catch disc.
SPEAKER_06Yeah, super class, sounds like it.
SPEAKER_01All right. Corey and Evan. Would you guys like category one or category three? Category two will be saved for a later date.
SPEAKER_05You pick this time, Evan. Stick with three.
SPEAKER_01All right. Question two, category three, unlike Texas Hold'em, which uses community cards, what classic family of poker games that deals players a mix of face down and face up cards over multiple betting rounds, with five card and seven card being the most famous variants? Unlike Texas Hold'em, which uses community cards, what classic family of poker games deals players a mix of face down and face up cards over multiple betting rounds, with five card and seven card being the most famous variants?
SPEAKER_03Corey, they named this one after you. Outlaw? Pat, we think it's stud poker. Oh. Hey. You guys agree? Yeah. Is the stud a disc? Does that doesn't that word have a meaning outside of poker?
SPEAKER_05Is that like a a stud is like, well, now they use the word child.
SPEAKER_03A course term? Oh. Like a stud farm.
SPEAKER_01Are you saying Corey deserves to be out on a farm? Yeah. Is that what you were trying to imply?
SPEAKER_03That's a stretch. You deserve to be covered in shit. Yeah. My feeling is yes, because I think it has enough multiple meanings. Yeah, I I like that angle. Let's go guess.
SPEAKER_01You guys agree?
SPEAKER_03Yeah. Yeah.
SPEAKER_01In of a champion discs, January 20th, 2016.
SPEAKER_05What? How have I never heard of that one? 2016?
SPEAKER_04Dude, those are for sale in like Dick Sporting Goods. That's that's one of the I've definitely seen a stud before. Corey, you got a bag of Halo stud.
SPEAKER_01All right. Randy and Alex, Rallix, category one or category three?
SPEAKER_04I feel like theirs have been easier, but pivoting would be the worst choice.
SPEAKER_06I I am good with whatever you want to do.
SPEAKER_04Let's just stick with one.
SPEAKER_01Sounds good. Alright, question two. Category one, what term for a show that introduces a TV series also means to steer? What term for a show that introduces a TV series also means to steer? Sounds like a pilot to me.
SPEAKER_02Yep. I didn't steer us wrong this time. Oh, you raw, he will steer. You guys agree? Yes. Is the pilot a disc? Yep. Yep. Who makes it? Streamline? Yeah.
SPEAKER_01What year? See if you could do that in unison.
SPEAKER_0217.19.
SPEAKER_03That was terrible.
SPEAKER_04You started out strong, but Alex said two different years. How was I supposed to know?
SPEAKER_06Yours was wrong no matter what, because it was a disc when I started playing for sure.
SPEAKER_04Oh, whatever.
SPEAKER_01Streamlined discs, February 22nd, 2017. So classic relics. Right? Corey and Evan, one or three.
SPEAKER_03So Randy was right. That was not the time to pivot. I don't gotta think about the metagame. I don't know.
SPEAKER_05Stick with three is my I was leaning to stick a stick with three.
SPEAKER_03That's your turn to pick anyway. What am I saying? Yeah, three.
SPEAKER_05Let's go with three, Pat.
SPEAKER_01Question three, category three. What is the first name of the protagonist in the Rocky spin-off film series who is the son of the legendary heavyweight champion Apollo Creed? What is the first name of the protagonist in the Rocky spin-off film series who is the son of the legendary heavyweight champion Apollo Creed?
SPEAKER_03Randy. Evan, save me. Is it not Randy?
SPEAKER_05The son of Apollo Creed. If this is a comic, you would know this answer, Evan. Come on.
SPEAKER_03Yeah, I know. Tim would know this.
SPEAKER_01I didn't know how hard or easy this one would be. So uh it depends.
SPEAKER_05It's I'd uh Well, yeah, if a guy's name is Apollo, he's definitely not gonna name his son Randy, that's for sure.
SPEAKER_01I'm also gonna give a bonus point to either team that figures out the connection. Just for fun, send me a direct message through Facebook if you think you you know it. But you only get one guess. Like a category? Yeah, if you can figure out the category, each person only gets one guess. If Alex guesses and he's wrong, he can't guess again, but Randy still can, as an example. Just for fun, we'll try it out.
SPEAKER_05I I really have no idea. Um anvil, stud, uh hammer. Hammer crazy hammer sounds kind of sick, actually.
SPEAKER_01Randy, send it to me directly.
SPEAKER_05That was just for fun.
SPEAKER_01Oh, okay. I'll I'll give you that. I don't know.
SPEAKER_03I don't even I don't have a guess. I didn't I'm aware. I'm aware of this movie, but I didn't see it. So yeah, let's let's go hammer Pat. Okay.
SPEAKER_01Randy and Alex. What is the first name of the protagonist in the Rocky spinoff film series who is the son of legendary heavyweight champion Apollo Creed?
SPEAKER_06I was really hoping we were looking for a last name and I could say Creed, but that's all I know about that movie.
SPEAKER_03Oh, I'd be so mad if that's it.
SPEAKER_06That's the title of the movie, and it's in the question. Yeah, it's it's definitely not Creed. That's all I have, though.
SPEAKER_04If I described the whole movie, would it help?
SPEAKER_06Uh no.
SPEAKER_04Okay.
SPEAKER_06It's Michael B. Jordan is the actor.
SPEAKER_04Yeah, that is exactly we should say Michael. Statistically.
SPEAKER_06Statistically unlikely, but not impossible.
SPEAKER_04You're gonna be so mad if it's Randy. I I like sort of have a guess the category, but it's a little early to blow it.
SPEAKER_06I I mean I think you got a second to uh to hold on to it.
SPEAKER_04But I can't jog our memories or make up a name.
SPEAKER_06Yeah, if you got nothing, I got nothing.
SPEAKER_04Nope.
SPEAKER_06Michael.
SPEAKER_04Oh wait, Brad.
SPEAKER_06Brad. All right, let's go, Brad.
SPEAKER_01We were looking for Adonis.
SPEAKER_05I told you it wasn't gonna be some dumb shit like Randy. It's Adonis.
SPEAKER_01Oh yeet Street Discs, April 13th, 2026.
SPEAKER_06I mean, I wouldn't normally put Randy and Adonis in the same category of name, but okay.
SPEAKER_04What category were we in before I get confused? That was three. Okay, okay.
SPEAKER_01It's a tie match, but you guys are now a question to the advantage. Would you like three and one or four and three? I think we want to stick in category one one, right?
SPEAKER_04Yes, I agree. I have no idea what three is now.
SPEAKER_01All right. Question three, category one. In the TV series Seinfeld, what is Kramer's first name? In the TV series Seinfeld, what is Kramer's first name? You know the other team will get that.
SPEAKER_06Uh I also know what it is.
SPEAKER_04Say it.
SPEAKER_06Cosmo.
SPEAKER_04Yes, I knew that somewhere.
SPEAKER_01So you guys agree? Yeah, yep. Is the Cosmo, or we will accept because plural Cosmos, a disc.
SPEAKER_06I feel like it's gotta be, unless it's like Cosmos Disc golf is the company.
SPEAKER_04Yeah, I don't know. I know there's c there's like plastic that has the word cosmic in it, pretty sure.
SPEAKER_06Yeah, MVP makes all sorts of cosmic plastics.
SPEAKER_04This is a weird one. Like, I'm okay with no.
SPEAKER_06And my instinct is pretty heavily yes, but okay.
SPEAKER_04We're doing we're saying yes, Pat.
SPEAKER_01You guys agree?
SPEAKER_04Yep, yep.
SPEAKER_01Cosmos Viking Discs, December 29th, 2016. I feel like I should have known that. So we're halfway through. You guys are in the lead six to four, but Corey and Evan, question four and one or question four and three.
SPEAKER_05Not gonna lie, Adonis kind of scares me. Yeah, and I definitely knew.
SPEAKER_03I would have said John, John Kramer, but I'm pretty sure that's that stock's guy, isn't it? I wouldn't have let that go in as our answer. So are we pivoting? Fuck it, let's pivot. Yeah, let's go to one.
SPEAKER_01Going to one?
SPEAKER_03Yeah.
SPEAKER_01What if you took the worst time to stay and then the worst time to pivot?
SPEAKER_03It wouldn't be the third time I've done that.
SPEAKER_01Might be the fourth or fifth, yeah.
SPEAKER_03Exactly.
SPEAKER_01All right, question four category one. Another name for the shuttlecock in badminton. In 1978, Jack Nicholson scored five of them in a row to win a tournament. Another name for the shuttlecock in badminton. In 1978, Jack Nicholson scored five of them in a row to win a tournament.
SPEAKER_03Birdie, right? Yes. Uh is that you're not Well, it doesn't mean Jack Nicholas.
SPEAKER_01Where do I say? Jack Nicholson? Yeah.
SPEAKER_03Yeah.
SPEAKER_01Jack Nicholas.
SPEAKER_03Birdie, Pat. I didn't even know the name. I just thought. I mean, Nicholson might have been playing celebrity tournaments. Who knows?
SPEAKER_01I've never in my life been able to discern the two. And I'm looking at the spelling, the proper spelling.
SPEAKER_03They're both studs. Yeah. Uh so birdie.
SPEAKER_06Wrong category.
SPEAKER_03Yeah, thank you. You guys agree. You guys agree. Birdie. Yeah. Is the birdie a disc. Definitely. Yes, it's Innova.
SPEAKER_01Innova Champion Disc, May 13th, 1991. That you know what? I don't feel so bad. You guys screwed up on Adonis, so that's a makeup.
SPEAKER_06I was gonna say that that did not feel like the worst time to pivot.
SPEAKER_05I thought that was more bait, too.
SPEAKER_01That was mind games. Alright, fair. I forgot about the golf reference.
SPEAKER_05I didn't even think about that part. I birdie for some reason. It should have been question one. Shovelcock. Although that is the way cooler way to refer to it as.
SPEAKER_01Alright, so we're tied, but Randy and Alex, you're a question in the hole, five and one or four in three.
SPEAKER_06I mean, category one has been good to us so far.
SPEAKER_04Yep, no way this backfires.
SPEAKER_06All right, let's stick with it.
SPEAKER_01Alright, question five. Category one. What band's greatest hits with an optimistic 80s anthem has spent 914 weeks on the Billboard 200 album charts as of June 2026? What band's greatest hits with an optimistic 80s anthem has spent 914 weeks on the Billboard 200 album charts as of June 2026?
SPEAKER_04Uh journey.
SPEAKER_06What is their optimistic anthem?
SPEAKER_04Uh don't stop believing.
SPEAKER_06Yeah, seems reasonable.
SPEAKER_04You guys agree?
SPEAKER_06Sure.
SPEAKER_04Sounds like Alex does.
SPEAKER_06I I mean, yeah, I got I got nothing. So so if you're feeling it.
SPEAKER_04We're feeling it, Pat.
SPEAKER_06Alright, let's do it.
SPEAKER_04Is the journey a disc?
SPEAKER_06Good call.
SPEAKER_04All right. Um man, these all of them tonight feel like yeses. I mean, I know they have one or two.
SPEAKER_06So Disc Gulf Journey is the Lasasos company.
SPEAKER_04That is true.
SPEAKER_06Which makes me think there there isn't a a journey. Did they do their research prior to coming up with this company name?
SPEAKER_04I don't know if it mattered.
SPEAKER_06Yeah, my my instinct is no because of the the Lasasso connection, but um it's not a strong no.
SPEAKER_04That didn't even come to my mind. I guess we can go no.
SPEAKER_06I mean, everything else has been yes so far.
SPEAKER_04All right, that's that's it. That's enough. We're going no, Pat.
SPEAKER_06All right, let's go no.
SPEAKER_01Gateway Disc Sports April 21st, 2017. It's all right. We're we're still up overall. Two rounds to go. You guys are up by one point seven to six. Corey and Evan, do you want six in one or four in three? Hmm.
SPEAKER_05I think okay what do you think? Uh we I think we have to go back to three. We have to. All right. Yep, it's time.
SPEAKER_01Question four, category three, known for his signature bald head, barcode tattoo, and dual silver baller pistols. What is the title of the stealth video game franchise starring the genetic clone Agent 47? Known for his signature bald head, barcode tattoo, and dual silver baller pistol. What is the title of the stealth video game franchise starring the genetic clone Agent 47?
SPEAKER_03You know this one? No, not really. Pretty sure it's Hitman. Um like 92% sure.
SPEAKER_05No, hang on. I can picture the cover art back when uh games had physical media and like go to GameStop or EB Toys.
SPEAKER_03Yeah, it always had a picture of the back of his head. Yeah, yeah, yeah. I like the idea. Almost certain it's Hitman. I do like that. Hitman, yeah.
SPEAKER_01You guys agree? Mm-hmm. Evan for no bonus points. Who played him in the movie?
SPEAKER_05Um Jason State. That's what I was gonna say. Really? Classic bald guy.
SPEAKER_02Is uh Timothy Oliphant, right? Yep, Timothy Oliphant. Oliphant. I don't know how to say it. Yeah, neither do I. Yeah.
SPEAKER_01That guy from all those movies.
SPEAKER_05Tell me this. I've literally never fucking Googled this guy. I never Googled Hitman. I literally just Googled Timothy, and the first result was Timothy Timothy Oliphant. How how would that be the first Timothy that comes up in search results? Can someone explain that to me?
SPEAKER_06No.
SPEAKER_05They're literally listening to the husband. It's listening to you. Your phone's listening to you.
SPEAKER_01He was in that Santa Clarita diet with uh Drew Barrymore. He was in Gone in 67. He's he's yeah.
SPEAKER_05I'll be honest, for a guy that's got that much hair, I wouldn't really picture him as playing a bald guy. Like they could have pictured, they could have got a lot of other classic bald guys to play this.
SPEAKER_04I don't think the budget for that movie was uh spent on like razors.
SPEAKER_03No, they spent it on CGI removing his hair. Uh, did we say if it was a disc yet?
SPEAKER_01Well, we haven't gotten there. You guys were uh Dillion Dalian. Uh is the hitman a disc?
SPEAKER_03Gotta be. I mean, it's a little violent, but it's too cool not to be. Right. Yeah. Let's go yes.
SPEAKER_01I'm sorry, no.
SPEAKER_03Seriously? Okay, not ideal. Say psych. Yeah, say psych.
SPEAKER_01Psych? I'm sorry, no. But it is tied. Uh, just throwing this out there, any guesses? I'm not gonna tell you guys if you got any points.
SPEAKER_05Wait, was it for the category for this? For this cat the for anything.
SPEAKER_03I submitted a guess.
SPEAKER_01I'm not saying either way until the end.
SPEAKER_03Okay. Corey, I I guessed on our behalf. Oh, wait, we each get to guess though, right? Yeah, yeah. Okay. Yeah.
SPEAKER_01If the first person is right, it doesn't matter what the second person says. If the first person is wrong, it does matter what the second person says. That makes sense.
SPEAKER_05To be honest, Evan, I'm not even gonna if I try to act in my hard for this, I won't be all fall fall asleep. You know, I'm just gonna keep I'm gonna let you handle this brain power. I have it tied, yeah.
SPEAKER_01Randy and Alex, six and one or five and three? I think we want the five. Yep. Category three question five. Located in the middle ear, the malleus is the largest of the three small bones responsible for transmitting sound vibration. By what common English name is this bone typically known? Located in the middle ear, the malleus is the largest of the three small bones responsible for transmitting sound vibration. By what common English name is this bone typically known?
SPEAKER_06The word that jumped to my mind was hammer, but I don't know.
SPEAKER_04Yeah, it's okay. I just wanted you to say something first. Uh hammer.
SPEAKER_06Sweet.
SPEAKER_04You guys agree? Yes.
SPEAKER_06Is the hammer a disc? Someone must have made a hammer.
SPEAKER_03It's gotta be.
SPEAKER_06Let's not even think about it. Let's go, yes.
SPEAKER_03I gave you guys the answer. This is bullshit. Yeah, are they allowed to use that? We already use that. That's off the board. Where's the defense in trivia?
SPEAKER_01If you answer it when you're thinking about a piece of wood, then you know I was.
SPEAKER_05I was thinking about ambulance and studs. I didn't realize that Adonis was gonna be the answer.
SPEAKER_01In of a champion disc, January 1st, 1987. Uh nine to seven? Yep. Going into the final round? Yep. With potential mystery points out there? Corey and Evan, six and one or six and three.
SPEAKER_05Evan, I feel like you might have the best grasp on what we're looking at here as far as categories, so I'm gonna let you pick it. Stick with three, I guess.
SPEAKER_01All right, final question. Category three in ancient Roman religion. What term referred to the individual divine spirit that was believed to accompany every person, place, or thing from birth to death, acting as a guardian angel? Today it means a person endowed with extraordinary mental superiority. In ancient Roman religion, what term referred to the individual divine spirit that was believed to accompany every person, place, or thing from birth to death, acting as a guardian angel? Today it means a person endowed with extraordinary mental superiority.
SPEAKER_03I don't know about the whole the ancient Roman part. A person with mental superiority would be like a genius.
SPEAKER_05That's the first word, but did that not come up in a recent trivia?
SPEAKER_03I'm almost sure that is a disc.
SPEAKER_05It it a hundred percent is a disc. I feel like someone guessed genius recently, but I don't remember if that was an answer or not.
SPEAKER_03But that's the word that popped in my head too.
SPEAKER_05Yeah, I I that was the first one I locked on. And genius kind of sounds like something spiritual.
SPEAKER_03Yeah, yeah. Let's do it. You going with genius? Yeah, yes. Is the genius a disc? I'm almost sure if I'm almost sure.
SPEAKER_05Maybe I was just dreaming this actually, and it didn't actually happen in a recent trivia. Uh it is a hundred percent yes, it did. Deja vu, bro.
SPEAKER_01You guys agree?
SPEAKER_05Yes. Yes.
SPEAKER_01Originally Sun Crow, Disc Mania, April 3rd, 2019.
SPEAKER_06Uh yeah, I had said genius last week when I was trying to think of uh phenom.
SPEAKER_01Actually, I thought Jake Huey had said it.
SPEAKER_06He also might have said it.
SPEAKER_03Man, I haven't even listened to that yet.
SPEAKER_01But it was mentioned last week, and that kind of reminded me that I had this category sitting here. Does that tie you guys? Or are you guys down there?
SPEAKER_06But we've got the question in hand, yeah.
SPEAKER_01Evan, you did you figure out this category?
SPEAKER_03After four questions, I thought it was old WWF wrestlers, like Brett the Hitman Heart, Adonis, I think was a wrestler, and then Anvil was one of the heart guys. I don't know about stud, but then maybe you lost me with Hammer and Genius. I'm not sure.
SPEAKER_01Jim the Anvil Nid Hart.
SPEAKER_03Right.
SPEAKER_01Big John Stud.
SPEAKER_03Felt like a wrestler name.
SPEAKER_01Adrian Adonis.
SPEAKER_03I remember him.
SPEAKER_01Brett the Hitman Heart. Goat. Greg the Hammer Valentine.
SPEAKER_03Right.
SPEAKER_01And Leapin Lenny Paffo. I always thought it was Lenny, but I learned it was Lanny, L-A-N-N-Y, near the end of his career, became the genius.
SPEAKER_03Yeah, Anvil Adonis, and Hitman to me felt like old school, like late 80s, early 90s, WWF.
SPEAKER_01So you guys were tied, you are now up one at 10 to 9. Randy and Alex, no pressure. There's still a point available for the round category, but question six, category one. In what 1997 film does Elizabeth Shue master Cold Fusion while Val Kilmer tries to steal the secret? In what 1997 film does Elizabeth Shue master cold fusion while Val Kilmer tries to steal the secret?
SPEAKER_06Randy.
SPEAKER_04I've seen this movie. Oh no.
SPEAKER_01I can tell you who the director of photography is, but yeah.
SPEAKER_04I learned what hypothermia is watching this movie as a child because they fall through ice during it and it's a whole thing. Anyways, no, I wish you'd see. All right, Alex, what would you name a movie about stealing plans for cold fusion from like the Russians?
SPEAKER_06Something about the Cold War?
SPEAKER_04Something um Yeah, I don't think it has cold in it.
SPEAKER_06Something uh something something like a synonym for cold. Um Heat. I st I don't I don't think it's heat.
SPEAKER_04Anything with the category that we could lean on at this point.
SPEAKER_06I don't I don't know what the category is. Oh my god.
SPEAKER_04Do you remember the the answers?
SPEAKER_06Yeah. I uh Apple Pilot Cosmo Birdie Journey. It's something like a heist, something we're stealing cold fusion. I'm not helping.
SPEAKER_04No, I'm I'm really sad that I can't remember the name of this. I also should not have been allowed to watch this movie when I was like seven, because that's the last time I watched it.
SPEAKER_06Ice, something cold, something frozen, something hockey, miracle ice. Something nuclear? Something nuclear?
SPEAKER_04You can say it either way now. It's uh it's an American word. We just took it.
SPEAKER_06I don't like it, but chili, chili nuke. Chili nuke movie.
SPEAKER_04I'd throw a chili nuke.
SPEAKER_06Right? Man. Was it fusion or fission?
SPEAKER_04Fusion. Cold fusion.
SPEAKER_06Fusion. Mixing things together, chemistry.
SPEAKER_04Yeah, reactor. It's a disc.
SPEAKER_06It could be reactor. It doesn't I don't think that's right, but it's not.
SPEAKER_04I don't think so either. It's not a good movie name. That's all I got.
SPEAKER_06Sure. Let's well let's do it.
SPEAKER_04Go on reactor.
SPEAKER_06Reactor? Corey Hamman, you guys got a guess?
SPEAKER_03Brandy, you're gonna be so mad. I'm gonna hate you after this. Well, I was 16 at the time. Pretty sure it's the Saint. Oh, I was never gonna get that. Oh no. That was like it was like a his James Bond type movie, right?
SPEAKER_04Yeah, no, I I watched it.
SPEAKER_01I know who the cigar cinematographer is. Yeah. I know the best boy grip. Corey, do you agree?
SPEAKER_05Uh yeah.
SPEAKER_01Is the Saint a disc? What do you mean it's not chili movie? That includes the Saint Pro. It would include anything with the Saint in it. And yes.
SPEAKER_03We're gonna say yes.
SPEAKER_01Why? Is the Saint Pro the only one?
SPEAKER_03Uh no. That's the one I can think of. No, there's a Saint. I got one in a starter pack once.
SPEAKER_01Latitude 64, May 20th, 2012. Any guess as to this category? Apple pilot. Cosmo, birdie, journey, saint.
SPEAKER_03I don't know. Cosmo is a drink. That's all I got.
SPEAKER_06You got Apple and Cosmo, which kept making me think of Cosmic Crisp, and I could not get past that.
SPEAKER_03Cosmic Crisp apples. Yeah. They're so good.
SPEAKER_01As much as Genius made me think of finishing this category that I had sit in for a while. I believe at Mindkill, somebody had mentioned celebrity children's names as the potential category answer. Apple, Gwyneth Paltro, and Chris Martin. Pilot was uh Jason Lee, his kid, pilot inspector. Scarlett Johansson and uh the guy from SNL, their kid is Cosmo. Busy Phillips has a kid named Bertie, Jenna Jameson. Everybody knows Jenna Jameson. Uh she has a kid named Journey.
SPEAKER_03Never heard of her.
SPEAKER_01And uh Kanye and Kim have a kid named Saint. So it's all Nepo babies, I guess you could say. Oh, who who uh who said that? Who who gave you that? I can't remember. It was either Randy or maybe his wife mentioned it.
SPEAKER_05Randy.
SPEAKER_04I blame my wife.
SPEAKER_01Might not have been her. I'm just it it's been a while. I just it just
Sweet Up Hudson Valley!
SPEAKER_01stuck in my head. Any birthday's coming up.
SPEAKER_03Jackie's is tomorrow. Can you be more specific? Sorry, Jacqueline Kirkpatrick is tomorrow, and Sparky Spaulding is the 11th.
SPEAKER_01Hmm. 711. Today, day of recording, we got Jeff and Adam Walsh. Curiously enough, they're the same age.
SPEAKER_06We got Andrew Dorrell on the 9th. And Kyle Hirsch on the 12th. The Reaper. The Reaper. The Reaper. And Joe with the Viking Koalic on the 12th.
SPEAKER_01I got Todd Springer on the 7th. 7-7. My grandmother's birthday was 7-7-7.
SPEAKER_05That awkward kind of length of like uh time till cat cha-cha' is July 14th. That's a week. A few days after this comes out.
SPEAKER_01Oh, that's next Tuesday? Okay, yeah, yeah, yeah. So that's great. We can mention it next week, too. We don't have to mention the Reaper next week, but you can mention cat.
SPEAKER_05We'll have came and gone.
SPEAKER_03I wasn't here last week, but hopefully you guys shout out Josh Lee was yesterday.
SPEAKER_01Pretty sure we did, but again, nothing wrong with the a second mention of anybody.
SPEAKER_03I love you, Josh.
SPEAKER_01Well, that was a little unprovoked, but okay.
SPEAKER_03You can leave that at.
SPEAKER_01Oh, I will. 100%. All right. Well, thank you, Alex, Randy, Corey, and Evan, and uh sweet chat's out. Thanks, Pat. Thanks, Pat. Thanks, everybody.
SPEAKER_05I forget so many other songs on there, but as far as their themes. Who are you talking about? Um alternative rock band, maybe it's a general term. Uh nothing more.
SPEAKER_04Never heard of like divorced dad rock mixed with like actually good kind of hardcore rock. I was impressed because when he pulled in like with the loud ass car and then like cut the engine, and like all I could hear was was that we were like making fun of him trying to pick like what bad band it was gonna be, but it was actually kind of a decent band. I forgot what what you said, what your ass fell was listening to. Well, we first said Five Finger Death Punch, which I think objectively is a horrible band. But then it it actually sounded like Sleeping with Sirens, which was a really popular band, like when I was in high school. So thought you were cool for a second.
SPEAKER_05Which is funny because um sleeping with sirens, I legit I I didn't listen to them in high school, but like when I was like late 20s or mid-20s, whenever I like stumbled upon them, I thought for years it was a female lead singer.
SPEAKER_04Oh yeah, no.
SPEAKER_01Sounds like an 80s hair band thinking it was a lead female lead singer.
SPEAKER_05Close, dude. Close.
SPEAKER_04But then you posted that picture of sleeping with sirens, which I appreciated for for the J Dubs.
SPEAKER_05Yeah, that's one of those ones that I get I get comments of like, you know, if you're gonna do that, you should really do something disc golf related. Yeah. Meh, that gets old after a while.
SPEAKER_01I go through U Disc every week to do, you know, to pull like results and shit, and like every fucking third photo is the same thing. You know what I mean? Either AI or just generic disc golf photos.
SPEAKER_05So no. We've all seen baskets in cool spots. I've always started seeing just some random ass photo as event picture.
SPEAKER_04Corey, do you have any um premium baskets like on wheels, like mobile chain stars? Chainstar? Disc catcher? Disc catcher.
SPEAKER_05I have three.
SPEAKER_04Can I borrow one? Uh yeah, if you want. Cat can steal it tomorrow if you brought it to J Dub's. Oh, now I have to bring it to J Dubs. You can drive to your house, it's like two seconds away. I don't know. I just thought it might be possible. Do you you actually live super close, right? Like Cat could snag it.
SPEAKER_05Yeah, yeah.
SPEAKER_04It's only like four minutes up the road.
SPEAKER_01And you probably have way too many pallets in your truck.
SPEAKER_05So Well, yeah, I was like, I don't listen, this is the daily thing of what vehicle am I gonna drive to work that day? And am I gonna go right to J Dubs after or am I gonna stop home? But I could stop home, grab the truck, throw a basket in there. Or message you tomorrow.
SPEAKER_04If it's too difficult, then like she can just come grab it from your house before or after or something.
SPEAKER_05The only way if it could be labeled as too difficult is if the line was drawn as uh a minor inconvenience.
SPEAKER_04I've run into minor inconveniences that changed my whole day.
SPEAKER_05But yeah, they're they're the uh discraft, uh Chainstar Pro Portable.
SPEAKER_04Yeah, I just prefer Helderberg, uh, we're doing one temp hole, and I would prefer to do like an actual like premium basket. So because it's it's not a b-hole, it is an actual difficult hole.
SPEAKER_01So it's an A-hole, not a B hole. It's an it's an A exactly.
SPEAKER_06It always surprises me how fast you can play 18 holes when there's only like two people and you're not searching for discs constantly.
SPEAKER_04Dude, I used to play 45 minute rounds, like solo rounds, and that might be an exaggeration.
SPEAKER_06I mean, I believe it. I like I played I played just in for our match play thing, and we finished a round at Thatcher in uh an hour and 15.
SPEAKER_05Yeah, that's awesome. During COVID, uh, when I was working from home, I would legitimately be able to drive to J Park, play a round of J South or J West, and get home within like an hour and five minutes, kind of.
SPEAKER_04Yeah. During COVID, my daughter was in daycare in Schenectady, and I would drive there, play the whites really, really fast, and then pick her up because like I had just enough time to fit that in. I don't miss driving to Schenectady though.
SPEAKER_05No, I try to avoid that at all costs.
SPEAKER_04It was dude, like trying to get a spot in daycare back then was insane. It still is, but I I don't have that problem anymore. But yeah, we had to take the first place that you know we got off the wait list. It was tough.
SPEAKER_05Is that because your oldest is now old enough to watch the youngest by themselves?
SPEAKER_04They're both in public school, so we don't need daycare anymore. As of like a week ago, Casey just finished up, you know, daycare. Now you are old. I'm I am officially old.
SPEAKER_01Hey Evan, what's going on? Good evening. What's up? We were just waiting on you. So now everything's up. You're here. All right, let's get started. Here we go.
SPEAKER_05Hey, uh, Evan, Randy was all like, I pulled up in my loud ass car at CTK, but from your vantage point on hole seven when I was coming up the driveway, did it sound loud in like a really cool way?
SPEAKER_03Uh the vibe was definitely cool. Oh, yes. Okay.
SPEAKER_01Does it ever really sound loud in a cool way? I don't think I've ever heard a car that sounded loud in a cool way.
SPEAKER_05My car's actually not that loud. Probably a good thing and a bad thing.
SPEAKER_03No, it wasn't loud. Tim recognized that it was you. The only time a car being loud has been cool was when I did like a uh Richard Petty NASCAR experience when I got to drive a stock car. Oh, yeah. That was that was loud, and that was cool as shit. I hear you actually got the third gear. Actually, fourth gear, no reverse 130 miles an hour around the trioval at Disney. It was fun.
SPEAKER_05That might actually be the coolest thing I've ever heard you say you do, and you might not do anything cooler.
SPEAKER_03No, that was probably it. I peaked that and it's been downhill.
SPEAKER_01Ryan would say it's bartender.
SPEAKER_03Yeah, that was fun too for 10 years. That just gets the most callbacks. Yeah, for sure, still to this day.
